Six men were cited for alleged offshore fishing violations including possessing red snapper out of season in two separate stops on Aug. 15-16, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported today (Aug. 25).
In the first case, LDWF enforcement agents allegedly discovered four men to be in possession of 153 red snapper, which were seized along with shark and bluefish filets.
Larry Minor III, 23, of Fairhope, Ala.; 42-year-old Jeffery Copeland of Mobile, Ala.; 34-year-old Wayne Guidry of Marrero; and 41-year-old Jason Chauvin of Baton Rouge were each cited for failing to have saltwater finfish intact and possessing red snapper during a closed season to
On Aug. 16, agents allegedly found 70 red snapper filets and a 17-inch red snapper when they checked a boat on which cited 48-year-old Richard Britton of Pickens, S.C. and 30-year-old Brian Loupe of Morgan City were fishing.
Britton and Loupe were cited for allegedly possessing red snapper during a closed season.
Agents seized 153 red snapper, shark and blue fish filets on the Aug. 15 case and for the Aug. 16 case seized 70 red snapper filets and a 17-inch red snapper.
Penalties for taking red snapper during a closed season include fines between $100 and $350, up to 60 days in jail or both, plus court costs. Failing to have saltwater finfish intact carry fines between $250 and $500 or up to 90 days in jail or both, plus court costs.
