When did it become ok to run right pass a floating camp? I have boats constantly run 25 feet from my camp wide open in Bayou Black. My kids are trying to fish perch while I'm working. Boat after boat pass like its nothing. Very disappointing.

I am thinking very hard about starting a guide service out of Morgan City. I will be doing bow fishing, frogging, fresh & saltwater fishing and duck hunting. I have 18yrs of experience operating boats of various sizes for a living in the oil field. I do not have a U.S.C.G. license. I would love to speak with a couple of you guys that have the personal experience, insurance etc.

If you are not thinking about it yet you are not a duck hunter...............

June 20, 2013 at 11:24pm

I don't keep bass very often. I do fish all the local tourn around Morgan City. I'd rather see someone keep 5 knot heads under 14' than see a picture of a ice chest full of 3 pounders. Also I'd really like to see the mature spawning females caught in tourn not taken from the basin/marsh & let go somewhere else.

My 6yr old & I are looking through pictures of last year at our duck camp. We wanted to share our memories with you. Seth has been in a duck blind since 2. Last year he maned up to the 410 & and joined in on the fun.

August 21, 2012 at 9:32pm

Seth & Blake came home with 9 bluewings Saturday morning. These boys did a great job shooting. They would have had a limit easy but .410 steel shot is junk! They dusted birds at 20yrds to watch them fly off! Well I guess the coons got to eat too.

I visited the delta today. I feel I must inform fellow hunters that our world has changed. I started hunting the delta 18 years ago & feel like I know it just as good as anyone. The flood this year has changed the delta forever. I've been hunting with my ProDrive down there for 6 years. I will be buying a pirouge & chest waders TOMORROW. We will be hunting like the old days once again. As far as I'm concerned the hole darn thing is a restricted area now.

My father n law Jesse LeBlanc Caught this 8lb Monster somewhere south of Gibson. They also had a dozen other trout over 5lbs. I believe this one is headed to the taxidermist. This fish measured over 30'

Wish we still had a spring teal season. Just came from the lease and it is stupid with teal. I Wish they would still show up here in Sept like they do in April. Might have to make a hunt in the morning with the Nikon.

Last year I purchased a new Browning Gold 10ga. the fire pin will not strike the primmer hard enough to fire the shell sometimes. I can stick the same shell back in the gun and shoot it. I've shot several brands of shells and they all do the same thing. I called Browning they were no help what so ever. They said the gun was not lubricated. Trust me the gun is very clean and properly lubed. The gun was purchased from Lafayette Shooters. I don't know if they have a gun smith service or if there is someone around here that can fix it. I'm kind of mad about paying someone to fix a brand new $1500 gun. It will be the last new Browning I buy. I wish Berreta made a 10.

All in all had a great season. I did not miss a weekend. I can count on one hand the hunts I didn't limit. We killed birds when we put out the effort and didn't when we didn't. Nick Rock with the banded speck.

I was out there last week for 2 days and didn't see anything to fire me up. I burned 12 gallons of gas in my Prodrive. I've been talking to people east & west of us and they all say they have got birds so, whats up no one on here talking about it.

I can tell you this much from dealing with it before. The land companies have lawyers that deal with this issue for a living and you probably don't. If you come across the wrong lease holder/ landowner you will loose pal.

I'm with you LA Marsh Guide Service. I pushed many hunters to take that survey and for what? AND What would it hurt to split those youth days? One before & one after the season.

A comment titled: Re: Coastal Zones dates in response to a report titled: Coastal Zones dates

I hunt about 40 days a year in the Coastal Zone, I think we basically lost 4 weeks of the season. 2 weeks in the beginning that no one needs to be hunting & the last 2 weeks of January that my people look forward to. I got 4 phone calls this afternoon from unhappy hunters. The season dates sound about as good as Obama's Iran deal to me.

A comment titled: Ducks in response to a report titled: DU Projects in LA

We as a whole 'South Louisiana' dose not have the habitat to attract & sustain large amounts of wintering waterfowl anymore period. If you look at the area you hunt you will see it has drastically changed over the last 10 to 15 years. Invasive aquatics, erosion, saltwater intrusion, pressure & other factors have altered our duck paradise. I no longer support any waterfowl associated organization but, if I see with my own eyes any of them take interest in reestablishing Louisiana as a fraction of what it was I'll be the 1st to put my last dollar towards it.

A comment titled: No worries in response to a report titled: duck hunting facts?

The Chinese will soon be taking over this country and all the short stopping debate will finally end. THE NUMBER OF DUCKS THAT MIGRATE TO LOUISIANA IS A FRACTION OF YEARS PAST AT BEST PERIOD... There is no debate there. We have no control over it either. Migration paths have been altered. There is one big fact that everyone overlooks. The duck habitat of South Louisiana sucks compared to years passed. MORE PRESSURE THAN EVER, LESS HABITAT & BETTER FOOD SOURCES NORTH OF US = Anybody? Anybody?

PS. if you have decoys for sale or duck leases to give up please text me.

A comment titled: Coastal Dates in response to a report titled: Duck Season Dates

I would like to see these dates for the 2014-2015 'Coastal Zone'

Youth Day November 1st

1st Split Nov 8th - Nov 16th (9 days)

2nd Split Nov 28th - Dec 7th (10 days)
opened the Friday after Thanksgiving.

3rd Split Dec 20th - Jan 29th (41 days)

Youth Day Feb 7th

I like to say 1st that my group had a great season this year but it make no sense that all states north of us are hunting to the end of January & we cannot.

It also makes no sense to have youth days 2 days in a row the week before the season. The second day is a wasted one in my opinion.

I would like some feed back from Mr Reynolds. -Thank you Mike Hepler

A comment titled: 2 Sides in response to a report titled: Private Canals with NO Postings?

There are 2 sides to this debate & I have compassion for both. There is a guy that pays a bunch of money to have those rights & the guy that believes anywhere his boat floats he can be there. I've been on both sides of this fence. It will never be settled till the Russian's or Chinese take over the land once called America.

Get the Gaytor Tail. I wish everybody would buy them. I'd never have to worry about anybody being in my spots anymore. If you are young, like to push boats & get muddy the Gaytor Tail is right for you.

A comment titled: My son in response to a report titled: Youth Day Hunt

My boy is almost 6. He shot a few teal with his .410 for teal season. He took a bad lick & didn't want to shoot anymore. I didn't force him for youth day he said he was ready again. I will make a few suggestions though.

1.)Use hearing protection: They are usally more worried about the loud bang than the recoil.

2.)Your full Attention: You've shot enough ducks in your life. 100% focus on your kid with both hands free.

3.)Heavy clothing: No t-shirts. A nice thick jacket helps.

My boy has been hunting with me since he was 1yr. Bring the bb gun & when he's ready to go you leave. It worked for me. Now I can't get him out the blind even after we have our limits.

The .410 we have comes with a 22 barrel that you can enterchange. I suggest starting with the 22.
