Is anyone doing much good on the causeway this spring? I've not heard much. I'm usually hearing from the trollers by now but haven't heard much this year.

Wow, nice haul of shrimp? When can we expect our invitations to the shrimp boil? :-)

Catch them on a falling tide, right where the water is flowing in a channel that is draining the marsh. There is such a spot just north of the boat launch there, but it may get crowded. Night might be your best bet.

Obviously your route takes you to the 'back side' of the rock dam. The front side is very close by. Is the fishing that much better on the other side, not as many boats, what? Just curious as that is a long trip.

Yep, shut down, with no reopen date in sight. The one is Mandeville has been closed since Issac as well.

I don't know the good captain, but I've long wished that I did. I do wish you a safe procedure and a speedy recovery.
The fish are flopping, wondering where you are!

A comment titled: Boat Ramp upgrade in response to a report titled: Under Construction

Good luck with the repair/upgrade of your ramp. Are you making it any less steep? I have to tell you that the time I saw you use a boat to give a car a push with a boat, to assist it up the ramp and towing that boat, was a first for me!
The absolute best place to fish -- I hope you're not out of commission for long.

I'm not defending this place. They should have called you back. It does frustrate me when I go to the trouble of walking in and they then take a call and start waiting on them. I was there first! I have been known to push the button and disconnect the caller.

A comment titled: Standard Map Chip in response to a report titled: Hummbird GPS

Tiger is correct, the Standard Map works only in Lowarance units at this time. They indicate they plan to make it for other brands later on but haven't done so just yet. Even though the chip size would fit into the Humminbird unit it won't be able to read the files.

A comment titled: Lake P in response to a report titled: News and tips

Hit the causeway out of Mandeville or from the southshore, the tressel or bridges out of Slidell or the Riglotes railroad out of the Rigolets on Hwy 90. Lots of choice. You can even try Bayou Lacombe.

Wow, that is some really clear water for Lake P around Mandeville! I wish we had lots more of it.

A comment titled: Test first in response to a report titled: load balance

It sure sounds like you have a weight distribution issue. Before going to the expense of relocating the batteries why don't you disconnect them and move them to the console area (or where you plan to relocate them) and then try the boat on the water. Sure, the trolling motor won't work then but you're only testing the weight distribution out now. Relocating batteries can be expensive due to the heavy cable needed and sometimes the labor.

A comment titled: Chips in response to a report titled: Gps/Fish Finder

Joshua, we were responding to the orginal poster that started this thread. If you're asking about a Huminbird unit then the answer is yes, you need another chip, as the map included with the unit is virtually worthless. As stated above, stop by Bass Pro or some retailer and take a look.

That's very wise to mark and save the routes -- the marsh is changing quickly, that is why few of the charts are now accurate for the marshes.

A comment titled: charts in response to a report titled: Gps/Fish Finder

For our marshes the navioinc charts are not great. For the lakes they have been good. I doubt that lakemaster covers the marshes, I've not checked. I've not seen the Garmin charts for the marshes but have used the coastal charts and they are good. Go to Bass Pro or somewhere and look at their demos of the areas you fish.

A comment titled: Map Chip in response to a report titled: Gps/Fish Finder

Yes, you do with most all of the units. Some have a very simple map built in, with no detail, but people rarely find it useful. The Huminbird will use the Navionics or Lakemaster chip.
