A comment titled: Lowrance Elite DSI in response to a report titled: Lowrance Elite 5 DSI fishfinder/gps

The Elite 5 DSI has a great down scan image of the structure in the water. Remember that this is the only sonar option on this unit. There is no traditional sonar option on this unit. I find that if you fish in or near the structure, where fish live, then you will catch fish. You don't need to see them on your screen to catch them. The DSI, Down Scan Image, will show you this cover in great detail!

A comment titled: Lowrance settings and update in response to a report titled: Lowrance

There are a couple of things to check on your unit. First go to the menu and check the version of software in your unit and then go to www.lowrance.com, marine, products, product updates, then find the model number of your unit and find the current version of software available for your unit. If the number is larger on the web site than the one in your unit then you can download the current version from the web site and update your unit. Another thing to do is while you have your unit on and on the sonar page hit menu and find \'fishing mode\' on the menu. Highlight fishing mode and hit enter. You want to choose \'shallow water\' from the menu. This will help the unit lock onto the bottom and keep the lock when you have rapid depth changes in shallow water. Ken Sauret Lowrance Pro Staff

A comment titled: Lowrance X135 help in response to a report titled: Lowrance X135

There are a couple things you can try. Power up the unit and unplug the transducer from the back while the unit is on. Then power down the unit, plug the transducer back into the unit and power up. If this doesn't reset the unit to transducer then do a soft re-set to factory defaults. This will not erase any waypoints or trails you may have saved but it will erase any overlay data you have inserted on any screens. The overlay data can be reinstalled into each screen you use after the reset.

To do the reset start with the unit off. Press and hold down the pages button and hit power. Keep holding down the pages button until the unit is completely booted up. The unit is now reset to factory default settings and should recognize the transducer. If not you may have a faulty transducer. To check this go to your nearest Lowrance dealer and see if they or a friend will loan you one to plug into the back of the unit and hold it over the side in the water and see if it reads.

Another option is if only one unit is acting up and the other one is fine then take the one acting up and plug it into the other wiring and transducer and see if it works fine. If so, it isn't your unit but the transducer.

The next thing to check is www.lowrance.com and go to product updates and check the website to see what the current version of software there is for the X135. Check the software in your unit and if the number in the unit is smaller than the version on the website then you will need to update your unit. Follow the instructions on the website to do that.

A comment titled: How to set HDS map data in response to a report titled: lowrance hds-10 calcasieu lake depth contours

When you insert a Navionics card into an HDS unit you will have to select the Navionics choice in the map data so the unit will read the card instead of the pre-loaded map data in the unit.

To do this turn your unit on and hit menu twice. Go to Chart Data and hit enter. The data box will say Lowrance in it, hit enter and a drop down menu will appear and arrow down to Navionics and hit enter. Now hit exit twice and you are back to the chart screen and your unit will read the Navionics card you have in the unit.

I hope this helps.
