Thanksgiving either sex was a success for us. Now grant it, we managed to only get a hog but putting a 7 yr old in the right spot is a challenge! Friday morning the deer and hogs were moving just out of range from us. We went and overlooked our area and decided we needed to set up just alittle closer to a major crossing. That same afternoon, we heard leaves crunching and getting louder with every step. Brecken spotted a hog moving from our right to left. He settled behind the scope and I whispered to him that there was an opening coming up in the direction the hog was moving. As soon as he showed in the opening Brecken dropped the hammer. We high fived, fist bumped, hugged and smiled the rest of the afternoon.

Saturday my 7yr old and I made alittle squirrel hunt. Woods are dry and after 1mth of squirrel season, it's alittle tough. We hear hogs in the distance so we headed that way. We could see the fresh dirt where the hogs pushed through so we knew we were close. Spotting them we realized the wind was wrong. So Brecken and I circled back to get down wind. Once we did , I sent my ninja after 'em. He slipped through the palmettos like deer. I thought he was close enough but he ducked down and proceeded to get closer. Finally he rose up above the palmettos and cut loose. When the dust settled (as they say) I ran over to see he dropped 2 hogs

I'm not biased but this young man is no ordinary kid. On October 7th, 2017 (opening day of squirrel season) At the age of 7 , Brecken was able to kill a bag full of squirrels on public land. He killed 7. I asked him if he wanted to get his last one to make his limit but he replied 'nah, we got enough to put in the pot'. With the rain that night, the next morning was easier to creep. Brecken killed 8 and a rabbit. He let me shoot 1. For an adult to kill 8 , that can be a challenge but for a 7 yr old? Here are the pictures from opening weekend. Thanks to LDWF for allowing us to have great public land in Louisiana . Good job Brecken and thanks for the memories. Daddy loves you

My wife Sadie and I are very proud of the little man he is becoming. He has been with me in the woods since he was a year and 10mths old. He has killed doves, squirrels, ducks, hogs and deer but Wednesday he killed his first rack buck. It takes ALOT of patience hunting with a youngster but I do my best and he puts out the best results.
Wednesday (10-18-17) we arrived at the parking area and completed his homework on our trailer then headed towards the stand. At 6:15 I told him if he needed to pee, now was the time because 6:30- dark is usually when we have the trail camera pictures of a group of does that have been passing through. 6:35 a doe stepped out but didn't stay long . It quickly moved back into the thicket. Waiting for it to show itself again , Brecken tapped me and said 'daddy, there's a deer to the right of us!'. I put the 308 browning in position for him and he got settled. Looking through my binoculars I saw the deer was quartering towards us so I told Brecken to put the bullet infront of the shoulder. Waiting patiently for the shot he turns around and ask me , 'you ready?' [What!?! Shoot!!] Haha . After settling back again behind the gun, the shot rang out and the deer cut a back flip. When we walked up to it he realized he just killed his first 8pt. Hugging him I could feel his heart pounding. I asked him if he could feel his heart. He was struggling to breathe from excitement but answered 'y-e-a da-d , this is the best feeling in the world'. Yep, that's why we do it.

Wow! What a stud. And the deer is also impressive. That hunt is embedded in his memory. He'll never forget. Congratulations to you both.
