The speckled trout didn’t stand a chance with Patrick and his son Kaleb. We left out of Shell Beach, loaded down with some frisky Campo’s Live Shrimp. At our first stop we put a real hurting on the speckled trout population. Once the bite slowed down we had to make a few moves to finish off the box but, it didn’t take long.

What a great two days with a great group of anglers! Curt Phelps took the long ride from Kentucky with his crew to get in on some of the incredible fishing we have had in Shell Beach. Captain Jonathan and Captain Danny ran this one with me, and we all did well. On day one Curt, Matt Rogers, Matt Northcutt, and Cody fished with me, and we hammered the speckled trout. On day two, Matt R., Matt N., and Cody fished with me, and we put a smack down on the redfish. Danny and Jonathan busted up the speckled trout again on day two. I couldn’t ask for a better couple of days of fishing or a better crew to fish with. Thanks again to Captain Jonathan and Captain Danny for a job well done and to Curt Phelps for putting it together.

I helped Captain Jonathan Sanchez out with a great group of guys from the coast of Florida/Alabama. It was a one stop shop today with both boats doing well with the speckled trout. The bite was pretty steady, but never did go nuts. Special thanks to Captain Jonathan for setting up the trip and to the Campo’s live shrimp for ultimate sacrifice they made for us to fill our boxes!!

I’m a bit behind on reports but here’s a recent one with David, Byron, and Shane. We were able to squeeze this one in before we got slammed by the rain.

I helped out Captain Frank with a group from Huntsville, Alabama. I picked up Laz, Matt, and Jarod from Frank’s camp and headed to Campo’s to fuel up and top off the live well with some lively shrimp. The wind was blowing and the storms were around us, so we decided to play it safe and stay close in the marsh to look for redfish. It was slow most of the morning until I got a call from Captain Mark on the VHF. He said he was in an area holding some fish, so I took off to go check it out. Boy was he right! We pulled up to our first stop and tossed out some Campos live shrimp and two reds inhaled the baits immediately. The fish were strong but they were no match for my crew and the Omen Black by 13 fishing. We made a few more stops for fun and this pond was just loaded with redfish. We took it to the barn with smiles and a filled ice chest. Special thanks to captain mark for calling me in to a hot area and to captain frank for organizing the trip.

Another great trip with Russell Wahl of IKO roofing supplies and some of his customers from Westend Roofing and Lafayette Roofing. Captain Danny and Captain Jimmy helped me out on this one and they both did excellent. The fish didn’t stand a chance against the frisky Campo’s Live Shrimp as all boats filled their boxes with speckled trout, redfish, and sheepshead. Special thanks to Russell Wahl and IKO for sponsoring the trip. We had a great time and I’m looking forward to the next one.

I was lucky enough to fish with a good friend and mentor to me, Captain Howard Calahan on this trip. Ben Loupe booked the trip with me and brought his friend Keith Piccou and surprised me with Capt Howard. The conditions were tough but the guys made it work. I started off in the same spot I left the fish yesterday and it was super slow. We did manage to catch a few trout over 3 lbs, but we never could get the bite rolling. At about 8:30, I got a call on the radio from captain Larry. He said he was on a pretty steady bite. I pulled up about 100 yards from him and double up immediately. I dropped anchor and it was on! Doubles and triples we were all putting fish in the boat. I mean as fast as you can throw out the speckled trout couldn’t resist the beautiful live shrimp from Campo’s. I can’t tell you how lucky I am to have such great anglers on my team. Thanks Captain Larry for calling me in on a fantastic bite and thank you to Ben Loupe for setting up the trip.

It was a windy day on the water with Jeff Coralis of Nulite Electric and his customers from Marvin’s Electrical Contractors, Marvin, Tim, Bud, and Dave. After loading the wells with some frisky Campo’s live shrimp, I picked up the guys at Jeff’s camp in Proctor’s Landing for 5:00am. It was a tough morning, but these guys fish a lot and they knew that conditions were way less than favorable. Everyone kept in good spirits, as stop after stop, we found dirty water and undersized speckled trout. Finally around 10:00am, I dropped anchor at one of my spots, and right away Tim and Marvin flipped two keeper trout into the boat. Keeping my fingers crossed, we slowly started putting fish in the boat. 1 tout here, 2 trout there, slowly but surly we started putting fish in the box. Lucky for me these guys were great anglers and didn’t barely miss a bite. We hung out at that spot for 2 hours working on the fish. We filled the box with Speckled trout, and a couple of redfish and sheepshead. We took it back to Jeff’s camp, knowing that even though they didn’t give up easily, on this trip we got the better of the speckled trout. A special thank you to Jeff Coralis and Nulite Electrical for sponsoring the trip and putting a great team of fishermen together.

Loren Leblanc of Westend Roofing showed up in Shell Beach with Rene, David, and Jerry. My crew loaded up the boat with beer, sandwiches and their A-game on this trip. We stocked the bait-well with frisky Campo?s live shrimp and headed south towards Breton Sound. On the way out, I saw some birds working over an oyster reef. As I pulled up, you could see the shrimp and glass minnows everywhere. I stuck the power pole down and these boys went to town. From the bow of the boat to the stern, the speckled trout were flying over the gunwales. The action slowed down a little towards the end, but not enough to run us off. We finished em up early and took it to the house before it got hot. Thanks again to Loren Leblanc for setting up the trip. I?ll see you on the next one.

Justin Frey and Augie and Gene Grimaldi came down to get in on the great speckled trout action we have been having in Shell Beach. We loaded up the bait well with Campo's live shrimp and took off to see if the silvers would cooperate. The morning started off strong, getting on a steady bite we were able to put a decent dent in the speckled trout population. We bounced around for the rest of the morning catching a few here, a few there, but not really finding the bite we were looking for. At the last stop of the day, we finally found em eating pretty well. We found a variety of fish including Black Drum, Redfish, sheepshead, and speckled trout. We took it to the house with the box loaded down and smiles all around. Thanks again guys! I'll see you next trip!

After the passing of Captain Kerry, Captain Jonathan and myself are pitching in to make sure that his clients still get to run their trips. The past two days were trips that we ran for Captain Kerry.
Brad Davis showed up in Shell Beach with his crew from Tennessee. Brad, Fielding, and Tim were on my boat and Mike, Wesley, and John fished with Captain Jonathan. We did things bass ackwards on this trip for sure. On day one, the wind was blowing 15 out of the Northwest. We all had speckled trout on the mind, but the conditions were less than favorable. It was a bit of a grind but our patience paid off and we both came back to the dock with great boxes of fish. On day two, the guys really wanted to catch redfish. Of course, it was flat calm and perfect weather to go trout fishing. No problem, the fish gods were on our side today. About mid morning I got a call from Captain Jonathan and he was crushing the reds. I ran over to the area he was fishing and hit a point about 100 yards away and started whacking on the redfish myself. We took it to the house and the guys hit the road back to Tennessee. Thanks again to Brad Davis for setting up the trip!

This is a trip that I was never supposed to run. After the loss of Captain Kerry Audibert, we are all trying to put the pieces back together. Jesse is one of Kerry’s best clients and with his recent passing, he was sorely missed on this trip. This is dedicated in loving memory to Captain Kerry Audibert, the best trout fisherman I have ever known.
Jesse, Ashley, Eric, and Dustin arrived in Shell Beach for 6:00 this morning to get in on some of the speckled trout action Due to the work being done on the Yscloskey Bridge, we had to leave an hour later. The morning started off slow. Well, we were catching a ton of fish, but not many keepers. I decided to bounce around and look for some better fish. And bounce around we did. After about half a dozen stops and catching one sheepshead and one speckled trout I was ready to change zip codes and try a different area. Before I bailed, I gave my first stop of the day one more shot and the speckled trout went nuts. Everyone was slinging speckled trout into the boat. When we hit our number we took it to the barn. Here’s the lesson that I have to relearn every year.
Don’t leave fish to go look for fish!!!!

Ronnie Artigue boarded the boat in Shell Beach with his son, Michael, his brother Gary, and his nephew, Robert. It was Gary and Robert’s Birthday, so Ronnie wanted to treat them to a Louisiana fishing charter. I have been beating up the same area for speckled trout for the last few weeks, so after a couple of stops in the morning, I bailed and decided to go look around. We caught fish at most stops for the rest of the day, but never did find them stacked up the way I would have liked. But we kept on until we filled the box with a variety of fish, including speckled trout, Redfish, and sheepshead. Thanks again to Ronnie Artigue for setting up the trip! I’ll see them again in October.

While the speckled trout bite has been phenomenal in Shell Beach, when Holly Wilson showed up with her boyfriend, Clint, and their two friends Janice and Howard, I knew redfish were on the menu. The wind was a steady 20 out of the Southeast and the water was high as giraffes a$$, so we tucked into some real skinny marsh. We picked up a couple redfish in the first pond, but we had to move on. Everywhere we went we found clean water and picked up 1 redfish here, 2 redfish there, none redfish here. We just couldn’t find a nice school of them to work on. My crew said they were in no rush, so we continued grinding and moving until until we filled up the cooler. We ended the day with a great box of redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead, and a bass. Special thanks to Crescent Power for sponsoring the trip and to Holly Wilson for setting it up.

Mark Dunn decided to get hitched so his good friend Carter O’Brien set up a fishing trip for his bachelor party, including their friends Jacob, David, and Josh. It was another breezy day in Shell Beach, but luckily these guys are great fisherman and really brought their A game. I made it to our first stop and ,as expected, the water was dirty. The first few minutes were slow, but we stuck it out and started to pick up a little steam. Singles, doubles, singles, doubles, the speckled trout were hitting the deck of the skeeter. The dolphins were having a field day with our throw backs and Mark hooked and landed a monster redfish. The dolphins and the redfish are awesome to watch, but are not too good for the trout bite. It didn’t seem to matter though. The fish were there and after a couple of hours and a handful of boat adjustments, we had burned through our beautiful Campo’s live shrimp and had quite the box of fish. We headed for the house with smiles all around and a boatload of bad jokes. Thanks again to Carter O’Brien for setting up the trip and to my whole crew for showing up with their A game.

It was blowing 20 this morning when Justin Frey and his two friends, Bubba and Bernie, boarded the Skeeter in Shell Beach. The trout thing was looking iffy, but I figured we would give it a shot. We stopped at Campo?s and picked up some beautiful live shrimp from Micheal and headed out looking for a shoreline to hide behind. The fishing Gods were unusually kind to me today because, at the first stop, we started putting fish in the boat almost immediately. Mr. Bernie cast out and a solid speckled trout inhaled the bait. Justin and Bubba weren?t far behind, icing down their own keeper trout. The fishing was pretty steady until a Bull red crashed the party. We moved on and even though they weren?t stacked up, we found fish everywhere we stopped. My crew stuck it out and we finally found that one we were looking for. We took it to the house with smiles all around, discussing what?s on the menu for our next trip. Thanks again to Justin Frey for setting up the trip?.again!

I had three generations of Langford on my boat today. I’m talking about Mr. James, Jim, and Aiden who showed up in Shell Beach this morning for Aiden’s first saltwater fishing trip. We left Campo’s Marina at 5:30 am with a healthy count of live shrimp just looking for something to pull the line. The day went well and we caught fish at almost every stop. Mr. James and Jim contributed to the body count, but let me tell you, Aiden was the star angler of the day! The boy kept me busy unhooking speckled trout, redfish, and sheepshead. Not bad for his first time in saltwater. Mr. James put a lot of trout in the box and so did Jim, but I think they loved watching Aiden put a real butt whipping on the rest of the species. When the bite slowed down, we took it to the barn with smiles three generations deep! Thanks again to Jim Langford for setting up the trip!

It was a beautiful morning in Shell Beach this morning. Pat Bonin, of Louisiana Sportsman, joined me with his motley crew of childhood friends from New Iberia which included Mike, Ged, Shanon, and Pat. We loaded up the boat and off we went on another fishing adventure. As I pulled up to Campo?s Marina I could tell something was wrong by the look on Robbie?s face. ?We?re sold out, Jakamo!? Oh Shit. But before I could go into panic mode, Robbie told me where Zack was making bait and settled me down. I found the bait boat and Zack loaded the live well with the most lively Campo?s shrimp possible. This little set back cost me an hour, and with the amount of boats out today I was concerned. As we pulled into the first stop, I noticed the water was much dirtier than it was yesterday. I put the anchor down and Shannon was the first to strike, putting a 14? speckled trout in the box. Boom, Pow, Ping!? the boys from New Iberia were working on the fish! Now the bite wasn?t nuts, but it was plenty steady. And slowly, we started to put a box together. I almost moved several times, and then another school would move through, so we stuck it out. With conditions deteriorating, we took it to the house, all while making plans for their next trip. Thanks again to Pat Bonin for putting the trip together.

I got a call yesterday afternoon from a good friend and client, Felton Wells of Wells transportation, wanting to make a fishing trip. Luckily I had the day off so Felton, his wife Inell, and his little brother Jeremiah boarded the skeeter in Shell Beach for 6:00am. We pulled up to Campo’s Marina and Robbie loaded us down with some beautiful live shrimp that we were looking to turn into Speckled Trout. Stop number one was decent, we put in a couple of good Specks, but the catfish were a little too thick for my patience. Stop number two was by far our most fun. On this one spot, we caught a smorgasbord of fish including redfish, sheepshead, black drum, and some really nice trout. We finally had to bail when the sheepshead got too thick, but we were still looking for a few more speckled trout to top off our box. We made one more stop and had to pick through some throwbacks, but finally got what we needed. We took it to the house just as the wind picked up with smiles all around. Until next time……

If they want to lower limits for recreational anglers to 15 per day then let them impose those limits on themselves. Why do you need lawmakers to legislate new laws on something you feel is ' the right thing to do'? If the average trout haul for these license holders is 2 trout per day then 15 is just a pipe dream any way. The law is 25 trout per day this is why i have people come from all over the country to fish here. I agree with you about keeping the captains limit. I only do it when the fish are cooperating and usually only keep a handful. Great post Brandon! I'll catch you in the Sound.
