New To Sportsman Network?

I agree with LetumLite. If the birds have a reason to stay (feed) they will be back. I know using a surface drive does not make birds leave an area. Now I would say that running an airboat days on end in the same area is a whole different ballgame. If you ride your pirogue in a pond, don't the birds get up and leave?? Come'mon man!!

I couldn't believe my eyes this morning. On my way to work between 7.30am & 8.00am on the side of Hwy 190 at Fairway Dr. near I-12 in Mandeville/ Covington line was 15 to 20 Canadian geese on the ground. Good thing I didn't see them landing or I'd would wrecked my truck! Can't wait till September. Lets get it started!

Why are the reports on this website out of order? Its fishing season and I'm reading deer and hog stuff. One post is 5 minutes ago and the next one is last month. Does anyone agree with me?

I found a lot of things strange about this too. Didn't they have some observers on the rig from the fed that week?? Obama is a commie.

A comment titled: get the mud buddy in response to a report titled: Mud Buddy and Gator Trax

I would say get the mud buddy. WE have a 31hp on a 17ft gatortrax. Works great in the coastal marsh. The only thing I see a problem with is the design of the boat in the photo. Namely the the seat section in the transom might be in the way. I would talk to the people at gatortrax and get there opinion. Other than that, we got everywhere we needed to go this duck season in our rig. Water or no water! Its a bad mamma jamma.

A comment titled: Thanks Louisiana Sportsman in response to a report titled: Your turn to impact legislation

I would like to thank La. Sportsman for having this website where we can all offer input on some of these STICKY subjects. The reason its that way is that everyone here is passionate about hunting and fishing. So don't kill the messenger guys! I see my subscription has expired so to show my support I'm renewing my subscription this week. Hope you all do the same.

First let me say I have no problem with bow fishing. I have never done it but it looks like fun and as long as people don't take over the limit what difference does it make how they "catch them". However all the debate did get me thinking. On a sportsman TV show I watched recently, it was mentioned that bow fishing could interfere with duck hunting by running birds out of ponds where they could be feeding or resting. For strictly selfish reasons I would have to give their observation merit. So for selfish reasons I would like to see no bowfishing 2 weeks before teal season all the way through the end of big duck season. But I see no reason to not allow the sport. The other thing I'm not clear on is this, Are red fish "game fish"? If so are they afforded special rules that specify methods of catching them that include no use of bow and arrow? Given the governments recent trend of "have to act now, we'll read the bill later" mentality, I think this issue should not be acted upon this legislative session. There is no rush unless u have an agenda. In the end, when more regulations are concerned sometimes doing nothing can be best.

A comment titled: That says it all in response to a report titled: Duck Season!!

According to federal guidlines the duck season can't extend past Jan.31st. WTF?? Why not? Could it be we might actually kill some ducks? We can't drill off California coast because we might accidentaly strike enough oil to become non-dependent on Muslim countries that want to kill US. Maybe think outside the box, hows that for a concept?

A comment titled: Say no to Limited access in response to a report titled: Atchafalaya Delta WMA LAA Proposal

Guys, ya'll sound like a bunch of tree huggers. If you don't agree theres not enough restrictions at WMA's and duck hunting in general maybe you didn't read the pamphlet! Besides that just being the first step in limiting your eventual total access. This could become a safety issue for some of us old farts having to climb in and out of pirogues etc. I feel I earned the right to be "Lazy" as one young poster put it, to pull up in my mud boat and pop-up my blind. I don't believe that mud boats are the cause of not having enough ducks either. Take a ride to Arkansas or Missouri or Nebraska and behold more ducks than you could imagine. If anything, short-stopping is the problem as well as not enough hunters in the marsh to move the birds around. I'm glad when I hear an engine coming my way be- cause I know it Might get some birds up.(Now air boats are an entirely different matter.) We have so many restrictions now it makes you think twice about whether its worth the time and the cost. Hunter numbers are dwindling now. Guess we should hunt ducks on the video game on TV. Thats what they want it to become anyway. Save Daffy!
