Since the local refinery has ceased production of non ethanol gasoline , what is the best course of action we can take .
I have been using no ethanol in my 4 wheeler, out board ( 90 hp yamaha 4 stroke) and yard equipment.
1. will no etahnol be available in Magnolia and McComb Ms ?
2. buy small amounts and double dose it with marine sta-bil for yard equipment ?
3. drain all out of boat tank and refill with small amounts and double dose with sta-bil??
I am posing the questions trying to come up with a plan of action that will work.I am not a chemist . I just want help from any of you with more experience and knowledge than I have.

On Friday we Went to Tickfaw and Blood Rivers and up Lizard creek a ways . Saw 2 other boats. They had caught nothing . I did hang a choupique on Lizard creek. 3 Hours 2 men fishing hard . Jigs for Sacalait and everything we had for Bass . Did not catch a thing. Got rid of old gas before the trip and refilled with non ethanol and double dosed with Marine Sta-bil so I guess it was not a complete wasted effort .

THIS MORNING I WENT TO ONE OF MY BOXES FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR. THERE WAS A RAT NEST IN THERE AS BIG AS 2 BASKETBALLS. I WENT BACK AT 2 THIS AFTERNOON WITH A SHORT HANDLE SCOOP SHOVEL AND A BROOM AND A GLOCK 21 CALIBER 45 ACP. WELL THE RAT WOULDNT RUN FROM ME AND I TOOK CARE OF THAT. I CLEANED AND SWEPT OUT THE BOX. QUESTION IS WHAT IF ANYTHING CAN BE PUT IN THERE TO PREVENT ANOTHER RAT FROM BUILDING IN THAT BOX OR ANOTHER BOX. I WAS THINKING MOTHBALLS . ANYONE KNOW A SURE FIRE REMEDY ?

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EASY ETHANOL TEST . IT DOESNT GIVE YOU A PERCENTAGE OF ETHANOL ONLY A TEST FOR PRESENCE OF ETHANOL BECAUSE IT WILL EASILY BLEND WITH THE WATER. LET SOLUTION SIT A FEW HOURS . IT ISNT A CHEMICAL INSTANT TEST .
The following test can be performed to determine the presence of ethanol in gasoline.

On a test tube or olive bottle, make a permanent line about two inches from the bottom.

Fill with water to this line, then fill the tube to the top with gasoline.

Cover the tube, agitate it then let it stand.

Ethanol mixes with water and the two will separate out together. Therefore, after mixing the water and the gasoline, if the water level appears to have increased, then the fuel contains ethanol and should not be used.

Ethanol fuels can damage the rubber and aluminum components of your aircraft fuel system. Ethanol increases the volatility of fuel, and hence the possibility of vapor lock also increases. Ethanol may vent off at altitude, reducing both range and octane. For these reasons fuel containing ethanol must never be used in airplanes.

Killed a 9 inch beard half inch spurs gobbler at 0930 this morning in Tangipahoa Parish just after it stopped raining. I have been onto quite a few turkeys this year in Mississippi and Louisiana and they either hung up out of range or were jakes. Had one in Mississippi yesterday morning very close but I could not see him. He gobbled and was very close to me . I clucked one time and gave him a good dose of silence . I never saw him . I could see approx 50 yards and he must have been at 55 yards, because I never saw him. I did not twitch a muscle for almost an hour and I gave up and went home.

I started reading the February issue of The Louisiana Sportsman Saturday afternoon . I was surprised to see the new writer and column . Lt. Colonel Keith LaCaze( Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Retired) wrote and excellent article and I am sure will continue to do so. Being a former Deputy and a Retired Louisiana State Trooper , I look forward to his input and outlook on the whole outdoor scene . I realize any retired Law Enforcement man or woman has a unique set of experiences that the 'normal guy' doesn't have ; therfore, his column should be different and interesting .

Anyone know hog trappers in Tangipahoa/ St Helena Washington Parish Area to trap some hogs for a landowner friend near Kentwood? He is afraid of using dogs because dogs will go onto neighbors land and that is why he wants to trap them.

May 12, 2011 at 7:53pm

I called up a pack of coyotes( between 5 and 6 of them ) this morning in Mississippi --they were moving slow noses in the air trying to find the 'turkey hen' they heard . Trust me a 3 inch #5 hevi shot in a rem choke super full at 40 yds will lay one down for good . Also on the way into the woods on a logging rd my hunting partner found 2 busted open turkey eggs laying in the road aout 70 yards apart. One less coyote to kill fawns and poults and raid turkey nests . I wish I could have killed more of them .

you can pull it behind 4 wheeler to different locations for changes in wind direction or when all acorns are gone and you may want it on a plot etc

they are good for building portable deer box blinds on. have to have a suitable trailer upon which to haul it to the woods because u can not haul it alone behind truck.

A comment titled: 2 questions in response to a report titled: CHALMETTE REFINING TO DISCONTINUE SALE OF ETHANOL FREE GAS MAY 15th

1. what is best course of action ? Marine stabil double or triple dosed ? buy small amounts of E10 and use stabil ? or use another product ? I would have thought a chemist would have attacked this problem and came up with a solution and became a mega millionaire by now.

2. what about Mississippi --gulf coast or McComb , Magnolia and Osyka area ? Baton Rouge area ?

I am sure that refinery had plans to cease production long ago and we are not going to change their minds .

A comment titled: DUCKS in response to a report titled: Ducks Unlimited

It's the habitat !! Our coastal habitat( salt water intrusion and loss of land mass) has gone down the tubes. The Lake Pontchartrain Basin has gone down the tubes( giant salvinia).
Up North habitat is better. No till farming leaves tons of grain on the ground and cattle feed lots harbor multiple thousands of ducks at each feed lot just like our grain elevators do here on the Mississippi river.
As long as snow pack does not cover the grain too deeply the ducks will remain where easy feed is located.
Much more rice being grown in Arkansas and Mississippi and bootheel of Missouri and much more corn being grown EVERYWHERE including North Louisiana keeps the ducks out of our coastal areas.( ethanol production)

A comment titled: Lack of Ducks and Geese in response to a report titled: View from Gueydan

Changed agricultural practices such as growing rice in ARKANSAS AND MISSISSIPPI. Not growing rice in Louisiana have both contibuted. Growing MUCH more corn for ethanol production and for over seas shipments in all states north of here and no till planting has also contributed. Corn growers used to disc up fields. Now they don't and all of the waste corn is sitting on the ground waiting for geese and ducks . I have seen this with my eyes as far north as Indianapolis Indiana in late January. Fields were covered with all species of ducks and geese. They use spray to knock back the weeds and do not disc it under.LOOK UP NO TILL AGRICULTURE. DU and DELTA have nothing to do with the changed agricultural practices. Also huge cattle feed lots now harbor thousands of puddle ducks that walk around with the cattle and eat corn all day .

As already stated a charter / restaurant card/ ammo for what caliber or shotgun gauge he uses/ wool socks in the correct size but mostly I would bet , like me, he wants to have all his kids with him for Christmas when you can be there ( in laws have to be included at some point too) . Tell him how much he has meant to you and still does mean to you and how his guidance and advice has made your life better.

A comment titled: BLACK DUCK in response to a report titled: A day we dream of....

I have only killed a handful since 1961 when I started. I got lots of mottled ducks and had people tell me it's a black duck. I did't know any different until I took a semester of Water Fowl Biology at SLU in the Fall of 72 . I have forgot a lot of what was taught but I do recall how to ID a black duck and what you have a photograph of is a Black Duck.

A comment titled: Fast ? or Workhorse? in response to a report titled: Mudmotors

If you want a real work horse , get a Go Devil long shaft and a couple of push poles for reverse. THEY ARE TOUGH. I have had 3 and one surface drive. The longtail will get you there and back and has little maintenance-no gear box to leak and gears to grind up . Get a galvanized frame .
Leave 15 minutes early because they are not as fast.

I did a very large test plot. I planted sections of oats , wheat , blend, arrowleafclover , crimson clover and the middle plots was imperial whiteatil clover. The stomped down paths through it all and they mowed the imperial white clover down . I wanted to see for myself what they prefered on my tree farm.
