Recently purchased a Lowrance Hook 5, the screen has a lot of clutter from the surface down to the bottom, cannot distinguish any fish, (if any) between the top and bottom. Any suggestion on how to correct this?

On our old unit (black & white) the fish where symbols of fish in various sizes, does / will the Hook be able to show fish symbols?

Thanks

Fished it Wednesday tide was falling hard, changed at 10:10 AM came in the rest of the day, however when I return to Lionel's it was still falling hard.

Wind has such an impact with tides in Delacroix, sometimes hard to tell true tide.

As for the water level it down 12-14', fished and ran around all over with no problem.

Word is Lake Campo under birds is the place to fish

Oneofthepack bought (4) Pathfinders 105 of Delacroix, and (1) #9 of Bayou Bienvenue area, they laminated and look great, with these maps you can see how the marsh use to look, locate old paths / channels, and islands.

The Map man has maps for all areas, even the Honey Island Swamps, all at reduced price / great investment for your inventory of areas to fish & learn.

“YOU GOT TO GO TO KNOW” could have just as easily been the best trip of your life.

Seems you pursued the guide, (don’t know if any questions where asked, i.e. how they biting, what do you think our chances are on catching fish, is it worth going out today?????) made an agreement, (not sure on content of that agreement i.e. catch fish / no catch fish results etc.) my 2 cents fulfill your part of agreement, learn from the costly experience, and don’t make the same mistakes down the road.

We were out and about all day Thursday, our outing produced 15 small trout, but even if we caught nothing the experience of challenging the elements and being out there on the water running around our Disney World known as Delacroix Island was priceless.

Hope you next guide trip fairs out a lot better.

Suggest you give Gulf Outlet Mariner (Chalmette) a try, fish THE PEN has plenty of deep water and a great shoreline to fish, all enclosed area, North wind would be tough if it is blowing.

Bring some dead bait, reds are plenty & Silverwodners are few and in-between, but you should be able to put a few in the box.

As for lures Purple H&H 3” beetle or the Matrix Shad Lemon Drop, match that up with an H&H 1/4oz. white head w/gold hook.

You can buy live & dead shrimp at Fishermen’s Fiend right at the launch.

Email us stanleyfink@charter.net and we will email you a map of the area in question.

Let us know how you make out.

A comment titled: Re: Best trout reels? in response to a report titled: Best trout reels?

Me had been a Mitchel 300 reel user since the 60’s, graduated to Shimano reels, $30 then $60 reels, used / replace them for years, these reels would bind up for no reason. One trip they would not work, next trip the worked find, but me no have the patients for Shimano reels.

Moved on to the Penn Battle II BTLII1000, love them, have 8-10 reels now, they perform well and have no problem handling 12” trout or a 25# bull red. Me have had many fisherperson fish with us, after they try me rig with Penn Reels, no problem they go by 1 or 2 to fish with. I guess, (10-15 guess) we influence the sale / selections of rods & reels, we got positive feedback on same from all our guess.

As for rods to match with the Penn Reel, once again we use the Shimano Clarus 1 piece 6 foot rod, (w/cork handle) makes for a light rig, fish all day with it with no problem. It too can handle a 12” trout up to a 25 # bull red.

This rig also good for fresh water fishing, even with the ultra-lures me still able to use me rigs.

We filled the spool with 20# power pro, (with a 15# mono 12-16” leader) works great, can cast far, and you never lose a fish, plus you can flip most fish in the boat without a net, if they too big just grab leader and pull them in.

Above just a suggestion, it best you buy what you feel suites you, and maintains your confidence level for catching.

A comment titled: Re: Which one to buy? in response to a report titled: Which one to buy?

Me, (vote for depth finder) caught a lot more fish with a depth finder than a trolling motor, been fishing 60 plus years, had maybe (3) trolling motors, they nothing but problems, just took a 24V motor guide off the Bay Flat Sr. had not used it in years.

Now if you fishing Lake P trestles, best to have the trolling motor over the depth finder, depth pretty much the same across the lake along the trestles., and you will trolling motor to troll, and cast & retrieve all along the trestles.

I have a depth finder you can have, call me 504-915-4896.

A comment titled: Re: Sweetwater vs Hopedale in response to a report titled: Sweetwater vs Hopedale

Me live & breathe, (last 54 plus years) Delacroix area, fished Hopedale a few times in me life, but me feel both areas this time of the year you have to travel to the outside to catch the Silverwonders.

At our Disney World known as Delacroix Island me feel the only challenge (possible rough water) is Little Lake, after that you are in protected water for the most part. Concentrate on the areas within Twin pipeline, Grand Lake, Oak River, and Little Lake, which is a very large area.

Suggest you locate North / South pipeline, (aka Pencil Canal) and Oak River, let this areas be your starting point,

Fish and learn the areas, depth finder is a must, need to locate the holes, and drop offs in all areas. Explore Oak River to the east out to Twin Pipeline, and to the west, (this side has proved to be more productive for Team Jo-Jo) to Orange bayou, fish the cuts dumping into Oak River, drop, off cuts and edges of the channel.

Our productive lures are H&H 3” Purple beetle, Chartreuse Glow Beetle , and the Matrix Shad Lemon Drop and we mix, match them with ½ oz. 3/8 oz. and 1/4oz. round H&H white heads with gold hook. ¼ oz. is our go to size head.

99.9% we tight lining, no corks, 90% we fish with lures, very seldom do we by bait, lie the challenge for trying to convince the fish to bite on lures, and me love the tap you get when the fish hits the lure, what a feeling.

Weather you decide to fish Delacroix or Hopedale, suggest you put in the effort to learn the area from the top & bottom (above the surface & below surface) know where all the holes are, current lines are, where the fishes favorite feeding spots are located along the bottom, channel, edges, cuts, etc. etc.. Get to a point where with one cast you can tell if they are biting in that spot.

Most important suggestion of all “YOU GOT TO GO TO KNOW”

Hope above helps with your quest to fish & hopefully catch.

TEAM JO-JO………….. Our technique with live crabs is just that, LIVE crab. We like them silver dollar size, leave all claws and fiddlers on, hook it in just slightly through the rear body, and back out around the back BIG fiddler. Fish it Carolina style. This a killer technique for sheepshead.
