I have been taking my wife hunting with me for the past three years on Louisiana's public lands. So far she's killed quit a few deer. On Thanksgiving weekend we went to our favorite National Wildlife Refuge only 5 hours away . It was a really cold weekend, and we hunted side by side because sometimes I have to tell her theres a deer right there in front of us starring at us. She looks at me and says 'WHERE I don't see it!!' (The thing in the weeds that looks like a deers head with the ears on it) On the first day of the hunt a doe came out and she didn't want to shoot it because she said it was small, so I turned and put the crosshairs on the deer and got her down, Then another one came out(same size)she said nope I ain't shootin a small one. I got my cart and went to pick my deer up and said to myself , this is a BIG small deer, it weighed in at 90 lbs,she was 120 yds away, that's why the deer looked small. We had one deer for the first day, not too bad. The next day I told her okay you get to shoot at the next one that comes out. The sun just started to come up when I saw her grabbing for her gun, then a big spike comes out and stares right at us. She put the cross hairs on him them POW.... I thought I saw the deer flinch before running off. I said alright you got him, we'll go look for him in a lil while I told her. It wasn't five minutes later , I looked behind me and saw a big bodied deer starring at us in a patch of small pines 160 yards away. I said theres a deer right behind us. I quickly got my gun up and turned all the way around and put the crosshairs on him. I could see horns in the scope; then POW staright down he went. She looked at me and said you know that one had Big horns, I said I thought I saw horns in the scope. She tells me, you know I could have shot that one if you would have let me, because I think I missed the other one. I felt bad because I wanted her to get a Big deer. At 9 am I asked her if she wanted to look for her deer or go and check out the deer I shot, she said lets go and see yours first. As we walked up we colud see the rack sticking out of the grass from far away. When we got up to the deer the rack was just impressively Wide, and I quickly noticed something strange about this deer IT HAD SPOTS. That's the first mature buck I have ever seen with Spots. So we loaded up the wide racked deer and went to look for her deer. We coulden't find a hair one from hers no blood, nothing. we looked and looked but couldn't find it . Now we have to whell this big deer back to the truck , only 3/4 of a mile walk. We were worn out by the time we made it to the truck. It is always worth it to go Hunting.

Courtney lost her mom to breast cancer when she was only 8 yrs old, and then found out at age 10 she has juvenile diabetes, She's 12 now and here is her Story............ This is Courtneys first deer, not only is it her first deer, it was her first time in a deer stand.
She shot this deer at 80 yds away on a pipeline using my 300 wsm (winchester short mag). I brought a 270 for her to use but she said the stock was too long, so i told her to hold my gun and se if it fit better, she said she liked this one. (check out the scope on this thing) I was a little worried about her shooting a 300 mag, so i told her to rest the gun on the window of the stand and to put the front stud of the gun (where you would hook the sling to) out the window and to slowly pull it back until it was locked onto the window. I didn't tell her why to do this because I didn't want her to be scared of the gun. She had asked if she could shoot something with it before she shot at a deer, just to see what it felt like, I said that wouldn't be a good idea. Lets just wait for a deer. She asked what time do they come out, I told her at 5:30, when the time came she looked at her watch and said hey dad it's 5:30 and i don't see antything; I told her don't worry they will be coming. A few minutes later, she tuggs on my shirt and said hey dad it's 5:40 you sure they coming. I told her that you don't always see a deer when you go hunting, and sometimes you see a bunch, you just never know. We were about to give up when this monster doe appears out of nowhere and starts walking across the pipeline, I told her get your gun theres a deer, she says WHERE she was looking way down the pipeline, I said right ther in front of us. (A close one at only 80 yds) She put the crosshairs on her and then BOOM the deer went up on it's hind legs and ran towards us (I new it was a good hit) then it turned to go into the weeds about 50 yds in front of us and then again it went up on it's hind legs again and dropped right there... IT WAS AWESOME So Cool, I turned to her and said YOU GOT HER, Great Job. ALRIGHT!!!! Then Gave her the Biggest Hug We High Fived and Everything. The Saints were just starting the first quarter of the NFC Championship and now going to the SuperBowl. This will be a day that will be remembered for years to come. Thanks Courtney for Making me the PROUDEST DAD. It weighed in at 135 lbs

Why would I want to hunt anywhere else ? It was a cold 22 deg morning IN NORTHERN LOUISIANA and everything was iced up, including me. Everything was snow white. My gun kept getting frost on it so I had to cover it with an extra jacket that I brought with me to keep it from icing. I saw a doe cross the road at 7:15 that morning about 300 yards away. I had to pee bad so I pee'd right out of the stand out in front of me, with the wind blowing my scent towards where I had been seeing most of the deer come out. With the rut being in full swing I figured it can't hurt, I've heard of deer getting curious of human pee, thinking it was another buck in their territory. After checking all 5 of my shooting lanes, 3 in front of me and each way on the road, I turned back to check each one again. I am anything but still in the stand, my head is rotating back and forth almost as fast as i can move it. It wasn't 3 minutes after I had just peed right in front of me when I saw the monster at 8:20. He had come out with his nose in the air looking and smelling the wind, while walking towards me. He then stopped facing kind of half quartering at 167 yrds. I drew my gun up and aimed for his chest slightly towards the way he was quartering. I was steady and slowly squeezed the trigger, I saw him instantly go down. I didn't realize at first how big he was. I just thought he was another nice sized 8 point, like the one I shot last year. I took all my heavy hunting clothes off before I went to check him out, because I knew I would be sweating my butt off getting him back to where I was sitting in my stand, I was all alone with no one to help me get this monster out. I grabbed my deer hauling cart and went for the long walk to where he laid. I grabbed the camera and took these pictures of myself and the monster myself. It took me a half hour just to get him on the cart, because it kept moving and he kept falling off every time. I had him almost all the way on the cart when he would fall back to the ground and I had to start all over again. I'm telling you it was HARD...... Makes it hard when your only 160 lbs. and the deer is 185 lbs.
