Just got a 22 mag bolt action rifle. Was just wondering who makes a good hard hitting and accurate round for it. I will be sighting it in soon and want to go try and take down some pesky yotes with it.

Does anybody on here have a good set of plans to build a bicycle trailer?

I'm looking to build one that I can use for deer hunting. I've looked around on the internet and haven't found one I like yet. I would prefer one that doesn't require welding or tube bending as I don't have either one of those tools.

Thanks for any help.

I'm already thinking about next season. This season was a bust for me since I had an unexpected job change right at the beginning of the season. I am wanting to hear from people that have leased land from Weyerhaeuser. I am thinking about trying to a small portion of land from them (maybe 200 acres).

I have looked at their site and was just wondering what to expect if I can get one of their leases.

What do you guys think about the Weatherby Vanguard rifles? Good, bad, or otherwise. Also, the Nikon Buckmaster scopes with BDC recticle?

I'm looking for recommendations for tents. I want something that's fairly big (sleeps 8) and of course can with stand some rain. I would like to keep it under $400. Also, let me know if there are any tents that you have had bad experiences with so I can avoid them.

Anybody ever hunt Big Branch N.W.R.? Just wondering how the hunting is there (squirrel, rabbit, deer). I'm looking for someplace to make a few day trips to. I'm not looking for anybody's honey hole, just wondering if it would be worth going.

Does anybody own a Marlin 308MX or MXLR? I am thinking about getting one and was wondering if anyone ever shot one or owns one? If they like or dislike it? Any problems with the gun?

Anyone know where there is some good small game hunting thats not too far (1 hr or so) from Destrehan area? I went to Tangi today and didn't see anything.

I need a new scope for my rifled shotgun (Mossberg model 500 Trophy slugster). The crosshairs in my old one will no longer adjust so it needs to be a rugged scope.

Thanks for any input.

A comment titled: After the fact, but.... in response to a report titled: Hunting the wind

I think you should hunt the wind that is blowing when you get there. One thing I've learned about the weather is that it does what it wants when it wants to, and weather people are just guessing at it.

If you plan to hunt the wind that is suppose to change and it ends up not changing when you think, you may have just wasted your time.

A comment titled: Summit in response to a report titled: Stand

I used a friends ole man for one season. Didn't like it. It was heavy, hard to mount on a tree, and uncomfortable to sit in. I bought a Summit Goliath 2 years ago and love it. Very comfortable and portable. I have taken several naps in mine.

I'm looking at the deer seasons part of the LDWF site and I don't see any area in this state that has an open rifle season.

A comment titled: Not sure, but... in response to a report titled: Advice anyone?

If you plan on going to Tunica, be prepared to get a good work out. Lots of steep hills and plenty of cane break rattlers. They also had plenty of squirrels in the northern track last time I went.

A comment titled: Haul deer in response to a report titled: Bicycle trailer

Hopefully it will be used to haul a deer. It would have to be able to go across some rough terrain as the trails where I will be going are usually rutted up.

A comment titled: Not Louisiana in response to a report titled: bear

Two reasons why its not NE Louisiana:
1) the road is too nice
2) look beyond the bear and you will notice that there is a hill going up away from the road.

A comment titled: Rage 3 blade in response to a report titled: Opinions on broadheads

Last year I shot a doe with the Rage 3 blade from about 12 yards. The arrow passed straight through the boiler room and then about 10 inches into the mud. She only ran 30 yards and then folded up. It made me a believer in Rage.

A comment titled: Try them out in response to a report titled: HOYT OR MATHEWS

I got into bow hunting 3 years ago. I went several shops including Bass Pro and Cabela's and shot at least 15 different bows before deciding. I recommend doing the same. Everybody likes different bows for different reasons. I picked a Diamond bow (by Bowtech). After you shot some, check out huntersfriend.com to see if they have the one you want. They have excellent prices and they really do come 'ready to hunt.'

A comment titled: Check local laws in response to a report titled: hunting rules

I would check the local laws. The other thing I would do is talk to my neighbors. Remember, we (hunters) don't want to make any more enemies than we already have. If you shoot it in your yard it could run into the neighbors and leave a mess along the way.

Maybe a slight compromise. Allow one spike, and the rest would either be does or mature bucks. Just a thought.

A comment titled: movement in response to a report titled: Cold weather

Deer generally will move in cold weather to find food. They burn more energy trying to stay warm so they need to find more food. Wish I could be out there hunting this weekend.

A comment titled: Picked it out in response to a report titled: New Rifle

Well, I went and picked up my new gun and scope, the Weatherby 7mm Rem. Mag. with the Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-12x40SF scope. It was bore sighted by Cabela's, now I just need someplace to go shoot it. Where is there a decent rifle range in the Destrehan area?

A comment titled: 7mm in response to a report titled: New Rifle

7mm Rem Mag. Zeiss is a little too rich for my pocket book.
