Me and my dad went out to the camp Saturday afternoon to fish jug lines. Dad put out 18 jugs and I put out 18 jugs. He baited with shad he had in the freezer and I baited with live perch. We caught 16 total. I had several twist off the line even with swivels. One catfish broke a #5 circle hook. All in all we did pretty good. Those big cats are fun to catch on jug lines. This is a pic of the fish in a 120qt ice chest if you're wondering about the size. Fished the Duck Lake area...

Capt. Paul, I'm looking into buying a Garmin GPSMAP 421 and was wanting to know which map should I buy to use in the lower Atchafalaya Basin. I hunt and fish from the Grand Lake/Bayou Pigeon area south to the Duck Lake/Flat lake area.

I have a 2003 40hp 3 cyl mercury and heard that i can make it into a 60hp by putting 60hp carbs on it. Is this true and how do I do it. Would i have to change the reeds also?

I was wondering if you were trying to eat them or maybe use for bait. They have made their way into the Belle River area. I was thinking of trying to catch some and use them for catfish bait on jugs are trot lines.

What are you gonna do with them once you catch them if you don't mind me asking?

Which basin are you talking about? In a lot of areas in the Atchafalya basin you won't get a cell phone signal so a GPS app wouldn't do you much good. Even the places that you do get a signal is hit and miss. Signal goes in and out. You may want to consider getting a GPS/Chartplotter and a Topo map card. Those show all the land and bayous in real time just like a satellite image from google earth. just my 2 cents

Check to be sure the Island road boat launch is open. It was closed for the high water and I'm not sure if they reopened it yet. As of June 28th it was still closed.

Ricky, you guys are catching the good filleting catfish unlike those monsters we caught this week. But those big ones will stink up a pot just as well. Looks like Baylor is wearing them out!

You should report it to WLF. Could be blue tongue disease.

We hunted there years ago when I was in high school. He wasn't the dictator back then and it was very nice and fun to hunt there.

Cajun Man, check out this website. I think this is what they should look like. The parts that look like flower peddles are the valve part. If they are not sitting flat or if any part of them are missing it will cause it to run bad.

reed valve is between the carburetor and the powerhead... another thing you might want to check is to see if your primer bubble is any good. if it runs while priming it but dies shortly after, your bulb might be bad. is the primer bubble new?

Heck, my dad even used hotdogs cut into chunks one time and did real well. Anything that's gonna let out some kind of smell will work. It's to find something that doesn't get pulled off easily.

Try chicken hearts. My dad uses them when there are no bait shad to catch near the camp. And they don't pull it off just so.

I bought the Lowrance Topo Insight HD, Southeast US, v14, Topographical Map to use in my Lowrance Elite 5M HD chartplotter. It is not a marine map but works great on the water because it shows an aerial photo map just like you would see say on google maps or google earth. And the aerial photos seem to be up to date as I'm using it in the Atchafalya Basin. I don't know if it would work with the hummingbird unit.

That map Capt. Paul is speaking of is the Lowrance Topo Insight HD Southeast v14. I just purchased the same GPS and this is the software I bought to use in the Atchafalaya Basin. It is a detailed satellite imagery map. It looks pretty good but I haven't had a chance to go out in the boat and try it yet. It shows all of the bayous that aren't shown on a traditional map. But like he said, look at it before you buy it.
