New To Sportsman Network?

Been duck hunting for 6 years. Take it VERY seriously but struggling with calling. Anyone doing lessons or assistance in the Alexandria/Cenla area?

I guess it may be a little slow for those used to big numbers of teal, but had my first LA hunt ever this morning and killed my first blue wings ever. As a new comer realizing just how close knit local duck hunting communities are here, I am so so grateful for new friends who took me out and showed me a great time! Thank y'all, I'm happy to be here!

My family and I are going to be moving to Alexandria in September from El Paso, TX. I'm an Army veteran and we are active in DU, NWTF, and all things outdoors. I would sincerely appreciate any input on archery deer hunting in the area and any possibilities of joining a 'bow only' deer lease in the area. I have a similar post on the waterfowl forum as well. I'm not looking to elbow in to someone's spot, just hoping to connect with good folks and do my share. Thank you.

I am an avid outdoorsman and going to be moving to Alexandria in September from El Paso, TX. I'm active in DU, NWTF, and all things hunting and fishing. I would love to join a group of ethical hunters in a duck lease or club. Please let me know if you know of an opportunity.

Josh: If you're posting video it's not showing up here. Can you put it on the FB page?

All: As a member of DU, Delta, a subscriber to American Waterfowler, and a general supporter of all things waterfowl, I can tell you I believe wholeheartedly in Josh and what FFL can do. Josh and I have communicated outside of this thread and I assure you WE (FFL) are open to ALL partnerships and ALL supporters of waterfowl in the Great State of Louisiana, regardless if we agree on all of the topics raised on this thread or not. The bottom line is waterfowl hunting in Louisiana isn't what it used to be and we hope to return it to its' former glory for our children, grandchildren, and all of the generations of LA waterfowlers to come. Regardless of your individual ideals, please keep posts here positive, including those towards LDWF. We must ALL work TOGETHER to secure ideal habitat and black skies! You can argue with Larry if you are so persuaded at your next local waterfowl event. I'm sure he'll be there!

I can tentatively say yes, I will support an organization focused on La. I would have to attend a meeting or hear more one on one to really commit. 'Habitat' is casting a very broad net. I am relatively new to La and hunt public land exclusively. Having hunted here two seasons now there is a very clear line dividing those who hunt public and private land. That's not to say one is better than the other or one is right and one is wrong, just some very different ideology. I question if there is sustainable financial support to do this long term, particularly if next year just happens to be better. Whether or not crop manipulation in the midwest and people using ice eaters has altered the migration or what constitutes 'prime habitat' will always be debatable. What is not debatable is that generally speaking our ducks follow the Mississippi and it's tributaries down. If there are extremely dry conditions (Arkansas, Northern and Central La this year) along the river, a naturally occurring shift (even marginally) in the jet stream, etc. there will be an impact on the numbers of ducks that migrate here. My personality is to only do things 100% so I am skeptical of putting time, effort, and money in to an endeavor that may lose support in 8 or 10 months if we have birds here during teal season or people kill limits in the first split this fall.

I apologize for answering longer than 'yes'. I'm a strong maybe with an interest to learn more.

Thanks again. We're pulling out of El Paso this Thursday, hoping to be in to Alexandria mid- morning on Friday. My wife will fly back after I'm moved in and she and our boys will be in El Paso until our home sells. I love shooting limits as much as anyone, but mostly just want to get connected with some good folks. I'll reach out once we arrive. I appreciate the hospitality and look forward to knowing you.

Thanks for the advice ardoin25. I checked them out online and will definitely pay them a visit when we get there and get settled in. We're looking forward to getting the move behind us and becoming a part of the outdoor community there, hopefully in time for hunting season!

Thank you so much for the info kmat77346. I grew up in MO and our family still has property there, so that is where almost all of my whitetail hunting has been done. I've had the opportunity to do a little mule deer hunting in west Texas. Duck hunting is my real passion, but I need the good venison to keep the freezer full too! Other than a little turkey hunting in NM hunting public land is completely foreign to me, but we are excited to get moved there and become a part of the outdoor community. Thanks again.
