New To Sportsman Network?

Looking for a taxidermist, preferably in S LA but I'd be willing to drive a good distance if the work is really good. I have used a number of guys in the Lafayette/Baton Rouge, all with good results. But I'm looking for exceptional work on this particular bird as it holds a lot of sentimental value. Please advise. Thanks guys.

Helping a buddy get a newly acquired marsh lease ready for next year. We are both rice field hunters through and through so we are out of our element to an extent. We've decided on a four man fiberglass molded marsh blind. A guy in Alexandria sells one as well as a guy in Beaumont. I'm lookin for guidance on how to install it in the marsh. Dig it in? Build a frame? Anchors? Support under the seat?
Obviously have alot of questions so any guidance would be appreciated. September gettin closer every day. Thanks in advance.

I'm relatively new into bluewater fishing and luckily inherited some nice equipment from my dad. He sold his boat when I was very young but kept most of his equipment in our attic. I just restrung one of his penn 30w with 120# hollow core and I was wondering how most of you guys connect the leader line? Ive been reading that the knotless splice is the strongest. Then from that leader line how do you setup your live bait rig or connection to your pulling bait? Thanks in advance

Hey guys thinkin about making a trip to see if we cant lay the smack down on the tuna like everyone else has been for the last 2 weeks. Just wondering what the most popular live bait has been? Anything would be appreciated.

Just wondering if any of you guys knew the laws on self-protection/dog-protection against gators. Went scout some property last weekend and saw quite a few "healthy" boys out there. Kinda nervous about running into one of them in our our blind. Or worse gettin a hold of my dog. Anybody know the skinny on this??

Ey guys, we've been hunting in Gueydan for about 12 years now but just recently bought a camp. Was wondering if there was any place near there to catch some inshore fish to pass the time between hunts .redfish, trout, drum, heads...anything that'll pull a pole, or possibly net some crabs? Any help would be appreciated!

Hey guys I'm living in Baton Rouge for the summer and am looking for a good spot to go bowfishing. My buddy has a 16' aluminum boat with a rear steer 40hp and a custom light rack on the front. I've heard henderson holds alot of gar but im not really sure where to put in or start fishing on such a large body of water. If anyone could help me out that'd be great. Thanks

Cameron, I was planning on doing 4 single man pits but our plans have now changed. I think we decided on going much simpler with a blind you drive your boat into. Basically a wooden frame that will be chicken wired and brushed up. We will be in the Pecan Island area on the north side of the road. Do you have any experience with those marshes as to whether or not they have a bottom. Curious as to how deep we will have to drive our posts. They wont be holding much weight except for brush, but we will secure the boat to the frame somehow will hunting. I dont want the buoyancy of the boat to pull the posts out.

A comment titled: Certainly Not an Expert in response to a report titled: Anyone know what species this is?

but I just got home from Canada where I worked for a waterfowl outfitter for the last 2 months. Like many guys have said, that quacker looks like the mallards we were shooting in early
September that were in the eclipse plumage phase. Some of the drakes we shot early on looked identical to hens, the only difference was yellow/olive bill color. On a different note, it would be very surprising to see a drake that made it here still in that same phase. By the end of October, 99% of the drakes had at least some green on the head and all of them had the definitive white breast of a greenhead. Wish I could've seen the little guy up close. Cheers

A comment titled: Decision time in response to a report titled: Offshore Leader Connection

Thanks guys. They have tons of good vids on the web of how to rig up the chinese finger trap method. What I decided on doing is 100# hollow braid knotless setup to 50-60 yds of 80# mono with a modified albright to another 20 yds of 80# fluoro. Any thoughts?

Now that you put it in that way I couldn't agree more. One more question. You have your hollow core to mono to fluoro rigged up. How now do you connect either your live bait rig or your skirt, trembler, etc ?

When connecting your bottom shot to the braid you said you use the uni to uni. Why not use the chinese finger trap method like you do with your top shot?

A comment titled: Ducks hangin around in response to a report titled: Duck Report-good to see a few

I'm definitely not a duck expert but have heard many folks talking about teal migrating north in the spring time. That might be why a few bwt's are hangin around. Went to the lease in Gueydan to put some cattle fences around our pits and saw a few flocks of bwt and a few mottles.

Like I said, I've been hunting the area for about 12 years so my time spent there is only during the winter months. I am from Lafayette so I have far closer places to fish back home. Never needed to get into the SW LA fishing loop. Just figured Id try to find some way to pass the time in between morning hunts. Thanks
