I'm looking at the alumacraft mv1756 AW SC and the G3 Sportsman 17 , both in camo. I can get a 90 Yamaha SHO on either. Both are about 20 grand. I thought I wanted the 18 but that's s big boat. I'll use it Primarily for bass fishing in smaller water, occasionally for going to the river. Any pros and cons to either?

Here is my setup: Thompson Center Pro Hunter 35 Whelen 28 inch stainless fluted barrel. Talley one piece medium height scope mount in camo finish, Leuopold VX2 3-9x40 scope with the standard duplex reticle. Shooting the Barnes vortex 180 grain bullets.

I LOVE this gun so far. I had my scope mounts and scope put on and had it bore sighted. I brought it out on the lead sled at 100 yards and it shot 7 inches high and 2 inches to the right. On the lead sled the recoil was pretty much non existent. My scope adjustments matched where the bullet was hitting until I got on bulls eye. Shot a one inch group and called it a day. I think that if I were a better shot, I could have gotten 1/2 inch groups or better. I took it off of the lead sled to shoot it just to see how the recoil was. I have to say, It wasn't bad. It was less than the 45/70 handi rifle I used last year. The muzzle jump was not bad either, as I hear a lot of people say about the CVA in 35 Whelen. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents!

I FINALLY got a 35 whelen barrel for my pro hunter. It's the 28 inch stainless fluted model. I'm wondering if anyone has this same model and ammo they find is the most accurate? I'm leaning toward the 180 gr fusions, as I've had good luck with them in my 270.

I'm looking to upgrade my scope for my savage .17 Hmr. Currently I have a 3-9 40 Simmons piece o crap. It's a bottom of the line Wal-Mart special. Can anyone suggest a good scope in the 150 dollar or less range? I'd like non Chinese made if possible. I am liking the idea of a 4-14 zoom range. Also I want suggestions on a scope base. A one piece maybe?

Just got a T/C Encore Pro Hunter in 35 Whelen with the 28 inch stainless barrel. I have not bought a scope or base for it yet. Anybody have some suggestions? I'm willing to pay for a decent setup but don't want to go broke at the same time. My buddy swears by the Leupold base/Rifleman 3-9 40 scope on his. ALSO, I've researched some accuracy/grouping issues with certain rounds. I'm thinking of using the 200gr Fusions or Core Lokts.

My name is Adam and I'm tired of borrowing rifles for deer season. I am considering the 35 Whelen cartridge but would like a few opinions on the make/model to go with. I'm leaning toward the CVA apex but what do yall think? I plan on hunting this rifle all season not just for primitive. Shots range from 50 to 200 yards depending on where I go. I want an accurate, dependable rifle that wont knock me out of the tree stand! Any advice is appreciated. I dont want to spend more than 500 on the rifle itself. Have any of you heard of issues with the 35 not firing? Something due to the cartridge shoulder is what I've read. 45-70 is a solid round too.

Thank you for the reply. I have done a good bit of research on 35 whelen ammo, and it just so happens a local gun shop has the Barnes 180 grain in stock. It sounds like you an me hunt the same sort of environment. The only other ammo I was considering was the Fusions. Thanks again.

I went ahead and bought the bushnell banner 3.5x10 36mm. I heard really good things about it and it was 90 bucks free doing l shipping. I figure if it sucks I'll send it back. Saving my money for a nice leupold or burris for my 35 whelen

I ordered the encore frame about a month ago. EVERYWHERE is out of stock on the 35 whelen barrel part 4767. As soon as Thompson kicks out more I'll be ordering it!

I understand where you are coming from. As a middle class hunter I depend mostly on public land to hunt and fish. I think that due to hunting becoming mainstream more people are hunting and that has driven up the cost of everything. The pro is that we have more people spending money on licences and what nOt, more getting involved in programs, and more support against the lefties trying to ban hunting and promote hugging trees. The con of course is every Jack ass with expendable income thinks they're Phil Robertson just because they can buy the toys. I personally don't kill what I don't eat (except snakes and beavers) and don't breast a duck unless it's shot to pieces. I have dealt with People setting up in the decoys destroying the land or trespassing. I guess more enforcement and education is called for. Hope it gets better in the coming years. P.s. I do think surface drives have there place but I'm certainly no stranger to wading and pulling a sack of decoys.

Shot a borrowed h and r handi rifle 45-70 yesterday. It's about a cheap and small as 45-70s go and I don't see what all the fuss about recoil is about! The rifle was pretty good but the 20 dollar Simmons scope with the 5 dollar mount made it really hard to get on paper! But the recoil was manageable. I shot 6 rounds (yep it was off that much) and only after the fourth shot did I start to feel it. Thanks for all the replies. I'm still undecided on the Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter or CVA APEX but I'M set on the 35 whelen. There's about a 200-250 dollar since in the two. I'll be doing scope and mount research soon!

Well after some research..... I've come up with this. I think the CVA APEX is a good rifle but hit and miss with the quality. I think I'm just going to spend an exTra 200 and get the Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter in 35 whelen. They come with the 28' barrel and their recoil reduction system. Thanks for all the replies keep them coming.
