I'm looking at the alumacraft mv1756 AW SC and the G3 Sportsman 17 , both in camo. I can get a 90 Yamaha SHO on either. Both are about 20 grand. I thought I wanted the 18 but that's s big boat. I'll use it Primarily for bass fishing in smaller water, occasionally for going to the river. Any pros and cons to either?
Here is my setup: Thompson Center Pro Hunter 35 Whelen 28 inch stainless fluted barrel. Talley one piece medium height scope mount in camo finish, Leuopold VX2 3-9x40 scope with the standard duplex reticle. Shooting the Barnes vortex 180 grain bullets.
I LOVE this gun so far. I had my scope mounts and scope put on and had it bore sighted. I brought it out on the lead sled at 100 yards and it shot 7 inches high and 2 inches to the right. On the lead sled the recoil was pretty much non existent. My scope adjustments matched where the bullet was hitting until I got on bulls eye. Shot a one inch group and called it a day. I think that if I were a better shot, I could have gotten 1/2 inch groups or better. I took it off of the lead sled to shoot it just to see how the recoil was. I have to say, It wasn't bad. It was less than the 45/70 handi rifle I used last year. The muzzle jump was not bad either, as I hear a lot of people say about the CVA in 35 Whelen. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents!
I FINALLY got a 35 whelen barrel for my pro hunter. It's the 28 inch stainless fluted model. I'm wondering if anyone has this same model and ammo they find is the most accurate? I'm leaning toward the 180 gr fusions, as I've had good luck with them in my 270.
I'm looking to upgrade my scope for my savage .17 Hmr. Currently I have a 3-9 40 Simmons piece o crap. It's a bottom of the line Wal-Mart special. Can anyone suggest a good scope in the 150 dollar or less range? I'd like non Chinese made if possible. I am liking the idea of a 4-14 zoom range. Also I want suggestions on a scope base. A one piece maybe?
Just got a T/C Encore Pro Hunter in 35 Whelen with the 28 inch stainless barrel. I have not bought a scope or base for it yet. Anybody have some suggestions? I'm willing to pay for a decent setup but don't want to go broke at the same time. My buddy swears by the Leupold base/Rifleman 3-9 40 scope on his. ALSO, I've researched some accuracy/grouping issues with certain rounds. I'm thinking of using the 200gr Fusions or Core Lokts.
My name is Adam and I'm tired of borrowing rifles for deer season. I am considering the 35 Whelen cartridge but would like a few opinions on the make/model to go with. I'm leaning toward the CVA apex but what do yall think? I plan on hunting this rifle all season not just for primitive. Shots range from 50 to 200 yards depending on where I go. I want an accurate, dependable rifle that wont knock me out of the tree stand! Any advice is appreciated. I dont want to spend more than 500 on the rifle itself. Have any of you heard of issues with the 35 not firing? Something due to the cartridge shoulder is what I've read. 45-70 is a solid round too.
