Had a great hunt the other day. Water was terribly low, but we managed to find the honey. My partner and I had a ball picking out the Male greenwing teal. For the first time I put mt boat blind to the Ultimate Test. I put it in the middle of a big pond/small lake, and the late season birds did not flare, GROUND CHECK! OMG, i was elated. I got'em by the arse! Final count was 9 teal and a 3 greys! Season is coming to a close, it's gonna be hard to wrap my brain around that!

I went back to my stomping grounds in Myrtle Grove yesterday evening and had a great hunt this morning. Hunted with my lifetime hunting partner, Pauli Gelpi. We met up with 2 more friends with the same disease.
I forgot how well Pauli can call, dang, he can make those late season birds come in with a smile on their face. They love him.
Fun hunt, teal were buzzin' like bees, capped a few greys and the highlight of my hunt was the last shot of the day. I couldn't resist, took a skybust shot at what I thought was a high flying grey, The 3 1/2' number 2 coupled with the extra full choke pattern master I just slipped in, brought down a loner Hen Mallard.. Pauli was laughing his butt off. Good Stuff. 4 guys hunted, 24 bird total, mixed bag of greys, teal and that loner hen.
These poor birds don't have a chance with my boat blind, they have no clue. Nothing like foolin late season birds, while sitting in comfort. I hate hunting the grass and will NEVER do it again....there is no need!

Wow! I have had a few incredible hunts in the past few days. I have been surprised how well the birds have been working the call this late in the season. Either the ducks are deaf or my calling has gotten much better! Enjoy the Pics!

It was all about 'QUALITY' today.....That was all I wanted and that is what I got. I had my old friend, Eric Dumas with me today and his buddy, Scott Ard. What a pleasure, it is always nice to take people duck hunting who appreciate the work it takes to do the boat blind building, put them in the game and call em'm in. It's even nicer when the guys you bring are shooters, boy, boy, boy, Eric was on today! He put three greys down on the pond before I could settle in. It was all good.
We set up, got about 6 early morning GREYS by 6:30am and realized we were not in the zone. It was killing me to see my birds going down 200 yards away in my honey hole... Dang, it was hard to resist moving into the honey,..We moved, reset, about 75 yards from the honey, I gotta hunt the fringe, cause once you bust them out, the season is over.....well, at least, that is what I believe. (By the way, that spot is reserved for CHRIS GINN, he knows what I want..)The choice we made was good! I was reassured after the first pass of greys hit da water in my second setup and Eric turned my way smiling with that sparkle in the corner of his eye, he was lit up like Christmas Tree!!!! Once that sunlight hit those dekes, it was GAME ON!!I got those Greys again, they came in on a string!!!!!!!Big Mature Greys, Widgeon and Monster Mottled Ducks filled out our bag of 18.
We had quality birds cupping from waayyyyyyy out, till they were 'IN YO FACE'! Can I getta' GROUND CHECK?
Highlights of the day---
-Dumas was on like Donkey Kong!
-I got a true double on a pair of Greys!
-Scott raked heads on 5 Coot and stoned 4!

13 Greys, 3 Mottle Ducks, 2 Widgeon..Scott's 4 coot

This poor 3 point did not know what hit him, HA! Neither did Georgie!!!!!!
Took Georgie on his first swamp hunt to give him a taste. I think I ruined him........We pull up in the loud go-devil..get situated and 3 mins later this 3 point appears, Georgie loudly says,'Daddy, is that a dear?' BOOOOOM! 'I say, a dead one!' You should of seen that lil' guy's awestruck and stunned face! Classic! He loves the Show!

November 29, 2010 at 1:11pm

WOW, it feels good....Got my passion back, and a team to GO WITH IT. This year the boys have asking about duck hunting, they want to do it like I used too..
So, I tricked out my go devil with some serious 'thinkin out the box cajun ingenuity', and OH LAWD, is it paying off. I kind of laid off the ducks the last few years due to the deer disease, but they sucked me back in. After some tedious long hours of boat blind fab, the passion an urge slowly came back. I knew with two young boys moving and talking, the blind was going tyo have to be special. I hit it out da park!!!!!!!!!
We Banged the Greys this Sunday. Wow, I am talking my IN YO FACE! These mature GREYS were stunned that we fooled them!
Gary is getting the hang of the 4-10 Pump, and poor Georgie just cannot sit still. I think he ran 45 laps around the inside of the perimeter of the boat blind, LOL!
I put out a perfect spread, after figuring out where the birds wanted to be, and the greys were cupped up from 225 yards away, all the way to ten yards away. The boys were in AWE! What a blast! Banged 11 Mature Greys, and slipped up and capped a spoonie to dirty my limit! The last pic is a hunt last week with five adults, three blinds, pounded them hard that day.

Need some help! I am finally fully closing in the transom on the Sea Pickle. She is a 25' Aquasport. I need a gil bracket or armstrong bracket to hang my 200 Suzuki on. Anyone have a used one they want to sell? I need it at least 24". Anyone know a good custom welder? Ideas?

April 03, 2010 at 2:31pm

Aight Boyz! I have a friend bringing me a proven hog trap, and I have a very good place to put it out on some very UNPRESSURED HOGS! I have fantastic sign and plenty sightings. They are there. I know there is a certain science to this madness of trapping them, although, I have never done it. It is a basic 8x4 trap with a trigger gate..I plan on using corn for bait.. Please give me your suggestions and I will fill you in on my progress...........Thanks for the input!

Had a really good hunt south of Kaplan on Friday! What a hunt. Some serious quality birds. I needed it! Nice way to start wrapping up the season.

January 17, 2010 at 6:30am

I am so frustrated.. Need some advice guys! Let me start by saying, (Not Bragging) I am one heck of a shot with a shotgun for Ducks, and dang good with a rifle for deer. Deer is my issue. It's crazy! I can cap a deer at 100 yards, neck shot, no problem. I can cap a deer, Running, within 100 yard, No Problem. I am extremely confident! But, 3 times in my life I have missed a standing 8 point or better at 175-200! It happened again yesterday! I am sick over it! I had a Beautiful 8 point stand up in the Pin Grass on me yesterday! I dead rest on a tree next to me, getting only a head shot. The Deer is looking right at me, pretty much challenging me to shhot. If it was a doe I would of passed. I shoot, he doesn't flinch, rack it back, aim and miss again. He slowly starts walking still offering only partial neck, head and horns. Of course I rip three more at him. He laughed at me. Now that is 3 missed trophies in 5 years, what the heck am I doing wrong? I shoot Browning SS Stalker ABolt with a 50mm leupold strapped to it. Why am I missing, any suggestions please! I am loosing my friggin mind!!

Had to cap a lil' spike on da run the other day! Couldn't resist watching him run thru the swamp! BOOYAH! Nothing like seeing him roll from full stride in the swamp. SPLASH DOWN! He went about 110lbs, Small 1" spikes hiding in the shadow! Love shooting them when they are running! Mud flies, water everywhere, blood on the boat! Gotta luv it! Can I getta Ground Check?

December 21, 2008 at 10:17pm

Gotta gun question! Yesterday, I pull up in my go-devil in the swamp to my corn feeder. Needless to say, one cow horn and a spike and a doe are eyeing me down waiting for me to flinch. I throw my gun up one runs two stay, I pull the trigger on the cow horn, nothing happens(no click, the trigger just pulled back). They both start running. I pull the bolt back eject the bullet slam it back in and chamber another, This time it fired and connected with a running spike. Second time this year this happened. Here is my question, is my gun dirty or do I have a firing pin problem?
Any body ever had this happen on a Browning A-Bolt? I do not want to bring it in the shop in the middle of the season. Any suggestions? Tell me it is just dirty, it's been three seasons since I cleaned it. I know, I don't take care of my guns, don't reprimand me for that. Just gimme a solution!

December 07, 2008 at 4:13pm

Ok Guys, need some help! Taking a shot. My brake lights don't work, both brake lights and the upper middle safety brake light doesn't come on either when I press the brakes. I changed the bulbs in the lens and fuses located under the hood and in the dash, which neither appeared bad. Turning lights and tailights work fine, just no brake lights. Any suggestions, before I get raped at the dealer? Is there a relay or something I did not check? Anyone?

A comment titled: Stupid Qusetion? in response to a report titled: Ducks in Caernarvon/Delacroix

How in the HECK does a grey duck that is in the air on his migration really know if the water/marsh that he is flying over is fresh or brackish. I do not think they do. I know this, Greys, for the most part, love open water. Yes, I cap them in small ponds broken marsh and open water. It just seems to me that you see more numbers of greys concentrated in open water. I also think less hunters hunt open water. I also know that the state of Louisiana's marsh is mostly open water, hence, erosion. It all adds up if you thoink about it. Back to what I stated earlier,'It's a new ballgame!'

I am with Coot on this one.....I don't know about the freshwater thang, But, I know this, 'IT'S A NEW BALLGAME BOYZ!' Like it or not, duck hunting has evolved, either roll with it, change tactics and adapt, or hang it up. I use the mudboats to my advantage on slow days, if you stay late as Coot said, the mudboats will help you. Those boats are going to the launch, jumping ducks the whole way, when birds are in the air, I have a chance to get them in my spread! Gotta love the GAME!

Thanks guys, I blew my 12 Grey limit on that redhead. I couldn't resist when I saw that RED! My brother was next to me as I rose to shoot, pulling my jacket trying to throw of my shot as he was saying, 'Dat ain't greys, Gary, that ain't a greys!' I said 'I know', after it fell...'It's a gorgeous Redhead'. Pretty bird. We had 10 greys in the boat when I capped it. He was miffed when it fell, cause I did the same thing to him when he clicked his safety off on an incoming loner female widgeon. So 11 greys, 1 Redhead

About the folding part, crack the grass at the fold, don't break it in two parts, just crack it, snap it, and it should fold better for you.....especially since it should be pretty dry by now....try that for the fold!!!

A comment titled: One suggestion in response to a report titled: Duck Blind

Tough guys don't wear gloves, HA!..Smart ones do! Aight, it looks great...I would add a lil' this, at the top, where you have the bundles of grass, I would like to see ya break that bundle row up. I don't that row, too organized! Don't remove anything. make about 8-10 thick 'Bouquet's' of grass. Bundle them or tie them at about 4' from the bottom and 4' up from that tie. Follow? It should look like a flower bouquet, the base being about 3 1/2' thick. the top just flowering open.
Take your bouquets and space them out everty 2 1/2 feet along the side of the blind, lashing to the bundle row.,covering the bundle row up, and leaving the grass about 4-6 higher than the top of the blind. Cover it good so its hard to see out the blind when you are in your driveway. When you setup, you can move the grass a little bit where needed.
This is it, Bro! 2nd split! This is when we seperate the men from the boys! Your blind is your life! Live it, Love it, Learn it!

It is always a gamble hunting for have to hold back on teal, spoons, etc....All Big is what we wanted. it's a catch 22, cause you can get burned giving up shots, and go home with a few birds because you let others go. This hunt was successful, but, it came down to the wire. It' difficultr to do when you need 3 limits.
