I plan on running to the rigs on Friday. Just wondering if they are still biting on plastics or do you really need the live stuff. Going to hit Enstar, Pickets, or Mardi Gras rigs. Any info would be apprecitated.

Looking at trading in my HD22 Bay Boat for the X22B with the hyperlift hull. This boat has a 150 4 stroke Yamaha but I think it is rated for a 200. If anyone out there has this X22B with the 150 I would like to know if it is enough H.P. with 3 people, ice chest, and gear for this boat!

Hunted this morning 3 of us bagged 9: 5 teal, 1 woodie, 1 drake Mallard, & 2 Widgeons...

Anyone else hunted in the Kaplan / Gueydon area this morning????

November 27, 2008 at 3:59pm

Went this morning to BL and 3 of us got 41 SPECS and 15 REDS. Last 4 trips have been great! All were over 13". We caught 15-20 others that were 12"-13" and threw them back!!!

November 25, 2008 at 7:21pm

Made a trip to Big Lake after lunch yesterday (THURS) 3 of us and caught 37 SPECS & 8 REDS. Saw a few boats out on the water!!!!

November 21, 2008 at 12:16pm

W6 did you hunt this morning??
I normally do not go when it is a blue bird day like today. I went SPEC fishing instead....wise move on my part since we caught a nice 3 man limit of specs plus a some reds!!!!

November 17, 2008 at 8:13pm

W6 we hunted this morning two of us and got 8 birds.
2 Summer Mallards, 1 PIN, 5 Teal....
Did anyone hunt your blind this morning: because on the way to ours it looked like someone turn-off the road towards you lease. Going back on THURS by myself..let me know if you would like to check out our lease for a hunt and on FRI going to Pecan Island.

November 11, 2008 at 7:51pm

Went to BIG LAKE this morning (3 of us): 15 REDS & 42 SPECS.
We caught most of the fish by 9:30AM: Gulp Shrimp 4", sand eels, and top water.

May 29, 2008 at 9:03pm

Hunted this morning by myself: 4 Ducks
2 Widgeons (1 drake & 1 hen)
1 Hen Mallard
1 Drake Spoon

A lot of birds flying from North to South....must be going back to the marsh.

January 10, 2008 at 5:30pm

Hunted this morning: 3 teal & 1 Mallard
Several times I had ducks look at the decoys (make one or two passes) & then leave. Passed up a shot on four teal...they kind of came in at a weird angle and then landed 25 yards outside the decoys. However, it was nice to actually see a few teal this morning. Part of the time I was using a MOJO and the other part not. Hard to figure out. I saw a lot of birds flying North to South and them after the rain a lot were going South to North....

Any other reports around the KAPLAN area!!!

Go back when the manager is not their. Also, sweet talk the lady working at the return counter. Usually if you are nice to them the sky is the limit.

I had an HD22B and I got rid of it for the X22B. Man the two boats are completely different. If I would of only know. I guess you learn from your mistakes. Big difference from going from a light weight jon-boat hull to a heavier Hyperlift hull with a V and pad. I felt like I won the lottery when I rode in the X22B compared to the HD hull. Also, go with the 4 stroke. I had an HPDI on my HD22B. ZERO comparison between the two motors. This 4 stroke kicks butt on hole shot and speeed, very silent, and gets great fuel economy. Take it from someone that owned both a HPDI and 4 stroke....throw the HPDI/2stroke in the trash.

A comment titled: RE:GPS in response to a report titled: GPS whats the best?

I have a GPS-Fishfinder combo. It is the Hummingbird 383C Combo. BTW, it is color. It cost like $400. I am not one of those that play with their GPS more than fish....if you know what I mean. I fish Big Lake, Vermillion Bay/Freshwater City and recently started fishing Dularge a lot. Also, what I do is buy the Hook-In-Line or Standard Map of the areas I fish. One thing, I believe you need a GPS. For the $ it is not bad. It is a little hard to see the screen when the sun is directly overhead at times. However, I have perfect vision since I had laser surgery done a few years ago. Good enough for me. I only saltwater fish. I am sure if you are one of those hi-tech bass fisherman then get the high $ Hummingbird side image units.

As much as I like to spec fish I think I rather shoot birds. I was thinking about that this weekend....3 more months away!

A comment titled: Re in response to a report titled: Tried fishing in DU

I recently started to fish this area myself about 1 month ago. I have fished it 5 times so far. Two of the trips were good, two were average and one was bad. I think I have been spending too much of my time going to the rigs. Most of these reports as of late the fish have been caught right off the gulf.

A comment titled: re: counter rotation in response to a report titled: Yamaha F150

I have this same motor (150 HP 4 stroke Yamaha) left hand/counter rotation. I got it about 3 weeks ago with a new boat purchase and so far I have about 15 hours. I did a lot of research on this motor and it is bascially the same as the standard right hand except the rotation and prop.

A comment titled: re in response to a report titled: Suzuki 140hp

I think that 140 should push that 20' Alum boat without any problem. I have an X22B Xpress which has the hyper-lift hull with a 150 4 stroke Yamaha. The dry weight of the boat is 1,700 pounds. With 3 men, ice chest, gear and just say 35-40 gallons of gas I can run right at 50mph @ 5,900 rpms. I bet the boat you are looking at does not have a weight of more than 1,400 pounds.

The Shimano Citca which seels for $120 plus tax is great for the price. Sometimes you can get them on sale for $100 plus tax.

A comment titled: reports in response to a report titled: Muddy at Big Lake??

The reason you have not seen too many reports for Big Lake is becasue the fishing in the Lake has not been too good over the past few weeks. When I mean not too good I am talking about catching #'s of trout not a few big trout. I went last FRI (not this past one) and we had 17 Specs and 5 reds. Nothing to get too excited about for 3 people fishing.

Were the live baiters catching? I wish live bait would be against the law. I plan on going tomorrow.

A comment titled: bait in response to a report titled: Chicken on a chain

I heard from a few people that they were catching them on that color. I have some but never really used it much. I may have to try on SUN. Was planning on going tomorrow but decided not to since the wind had picked up. Also, you should be able to get that bait at most places that sell fishing tackle.
