We are looking at taking an overnight tuna charter this summer. Anybody have any captains they recommend (or don't recommend). Any feedback on Eddie Burger, Hunter Caballero, or Gray Long. Any info based on personal experience would be very helpful before we drop s bunch of scratch on these guys. Feel free to email if you prefer.
Thanks

Does anyone have any experience growing 'Race Horse Oats' in a deer food plot. The local Co-op carries them and they are much cheaper than any oats advertised as 'food plot oats'. Any input is appreciated.

Someone told me that they are flowing river water through the violet canal already. Can anyone confirm this and does anyone know the future plans for this diversion?

Does anyone know the details like when they plan on closing the MRGO at bayou laloutre and if they are putting in a gate for boats to pass? Saw some barges of rocks parked out there and was curious.

Does anybody have the latest information on the closure of the MRGO?
Thanks

I am looking for some advice from some of you fellows that have land that is inhabited by hogs and deer. It seems that if I have corn or any other food around my stand that the hogs go nuts and run the deer off. I would like to feed the deer a little bit without feeding the hogs. Anyone ever come up with a way to do this. I was thinking maybe some sort of trough a couple of feet off the ground that is strongly staked down so the hogs cant flip it. Do you think this would work or will the hogs be nimble enough to get the corn or rice bran anyway? Any help appreciated.

I am going to repaint my aluminum flat boat. My plan is to strip the old paint off.(it is peeling down to the metal) Rough the surface and then paint it. I was going to use the rust-oleum spray paint for a solid base coat and then paint a little camo on after that dries. Does anyone have any experience with this? Will the paint stick to the boat or do I have to do some other prep work first? Thanks for any pointers.

Does anyone know of any duck leases available in the Delacroix or surrounding area. We lost our lease to the gulf of Mexico when Katrina hit. Now we are really itching to get back into it. Does not need to be a large lease as it is only a father and two sons. Thanks for any help.

Anyone been down around Lake Verret lately. Thinking about going chase some sac-a-lait or bluegills Friday or Saturday. Can someone tell me how the water levels are down there. Can you launch at Adams Landing on the Verret Side?
Thanks

Does anyone know if the crawfish are running yet in the Bonnet Carre Spillway. I know we have caught them in there while the water was still really high in years past. Just wondering if anyone out there has been recently. Thanks

Looking for any reports coming from the verret/grassy lake area. Anyone been catching any bream, sac-a-lait or bass? Dont necessarily need to know any spots just want to know if they turned on yet. Will post report tomorrow when I get back. If it makes you nervous posting on here, just email me and I will email you back with the report tomorrow.

Anyone know where I can get a few sacs of crawfish around Baton Rouge, and about what they cost right now.
Thanks

Any of you guys have any creative ways to bait hogs other than plain old corn?

March 05, 2008 at 12:44pm

Looking for a Little help here. I have a 16 foot flat that I need to repaint. I would like to paint a marsh grass pattern on it instead of just green. I was wondering if anyone has recently done this and can give me some pointers like how to get stencils without having to pay so much or what colors will give a good look, or anything else to look out for. Any help is appreciated.

Has anyone been out to the Biloxi Marsh WMA lately. I am not looking for any spots just wondering if there are any birds out there right now.
Thanks for any Help

Has anyone been down to hopedale or Shell Beach to scout for any ducks. I can't go for another three weeks, but was wondering if I had anything to look foreward to.

I was wondering if any of you fellas could help me out a little bit. I just moved to Baton Rouge. I am a Bowhunter and was wondering if Sherburn would be worth a try. Is it over run with people or can you get away and find a few deer. Not looking for any particular spots just an overall opinion of Sherburn WMA.
Thanks

I caught one like that last fall out of hopedale. He was about 30 pounds so I turned him loose.

A comment titled: feeder in response to a report titled: Rice Bran Feeder

I have one of the powder kegs. It seems to work pretty well. THe only problem i have is that we have hogs on our property and so I had to raise it up on longer legs. so now if there is the slightest of a breeze it spreads the bran over too big an area. I have not put it out this year. I would be willing to sell it if you are interested in a 1 year old model.

So, does anyone know of a place to get winter oats at a reasonable price in the gonzales area. Both sacs and old time carry the race horse oats.

A comment titled: oats in response to a report titled: Growing Oats for Deer

It is on 44 in gonzales. I specifically asked if they were for feed or planting and they said they have both. I usually plant a mix of clover rye and wheat. This year I was going to try oats instead of the wheat because it seems like the wheat is the last thing eaten and usually gets too tall and tough

A comment titled: wow in response to a report titled: Growing Oats for Deer

I saw the first line of your comment and thought you were going to have some great input. Gave me a good laugh. You have to wonder how much they charge for the camo bag with the little target printed on it. Like you are going to plant your food plot and site you gun in from your stand after you finish planting.

A comment titled: tune up in response to a report titled: Go devils

tune up for mine was 62 dollars. consisted of carb cleaning and lower seals changed. and only took 1.5 hours while I waited. call and talk to them and they will work with you. do not take it anywhere else or you will pay for extra labor. like stated already, they know these motors and can pinpoint problems instantly. very honest and fair prices on labor and parts.

A comment titled: gate in response to a report titled: Closing the MRGO

I figured they would put a gate for boats to pass just for safetys sake. Imagine all the summertime fishermen running down the backlevee canal before first light. Seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

A comment titled: jumping hogs in response to a report titled: Hogs and deer

Hogs just don't seem like the animal that could do much jumping. I have seen what they can do to feeders and such though.

Buy falcon rods. No others compare in quality and customer service. I had an expert that was like 10 years old when it broke and they replaced it for only the shipping fee of 6 dollars.

Hey Rob. It is me. The Biloxi marsh is all that area across the MRGO from Brenton Sound Marina. Remember all the spots me and paw paw showed you on that old map. If not I can show you again.

Did you guys hunt the management area or a private lease?

A comment titled: Bayou Bernard in response to a report titled: Hopedale limits

I hunted the same general area. Weirdest thing though was the wood ducks. I killed my two and passed on two other droves of them. Did you experience the same. And I also saw four flocks of mallard. I have never seen either of these two species down there and was wondering if you saw them as well?

A comment titled: Crimson Talons in response to a report titled: Broad Heads

I too had a bad experience with the crimson talons. I hit a huge 12 high in the ribs due to steep angle. The dang thing didn't even penetrate the rib cage. I shoot 75 lbs so that wasn't the problem. Then I shot a doe right through the shoulder and followed a very spotty blood trail several hundred yards to no avail. Needless to say I swithched back to 100gr thunderheads and have killed 21 deer and only lost 1. And it is true about lining them up with your vanes. It definately closes up your group.
