I just got a real nice drake wood duck today on a quick morning hunt, and I was looking to get him mounted. If anyone knows a taxidermist in the New Orleans or Baton Rouge area that does a good job on woodies, let me know. Thanks

This past night my dog has gone missing from my brother's house in Broussard, in the new Southfield Subdivision. He is a four year old male dark yellow lab around 55 to 60 lbs.He is wearing a camo collar with no ID tags, but he does have an avid microchip. I am a college student at LSU, and this dog is truly my pride and joy. If anyone has any information please contact me at 504-417-2138, 504-417-6767, or 504-417-0234. Anyone who finds my dog or knows where he is will be given a reward. Please spread the word to anyone you know in this area; it will be greatly appreciated

Now that duck season is closing in a couple of weeks, I'll be looking for something to do. I've found an area that holds a fair amount of snipe, but I'm not real sure how to go after them.Should I sit and wait for them to fly over or walk up on them or what? I have a trained retriever to help me find the birds. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I plan on trying to kill some ducks in the Bonnet Carre spillway this year, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey guys, I'm headed to the spillway tomorrow to do some bank fishing then go work the dogs. Has any body been catching down there? If anyone has any tips or info it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I realize this has been a bad year with heartworms in dogs, but this is my second dog that got them this year. The first time was due to a phony sentinal medicine that I bought from somewhere out of the country. This was last April when both of my dogs went to the vet, and only one tested positive for heartworms. He went through all of the treatment and is fine. Since then he and my other dog have been on Sentinil I purchased directly from the vet's office. Well today the other (my 1 year old duck hunting lab) tested positive for heartworms. The vet claims he has had them for over 6 months and will have to go through the treatment. I am 100% sure he has received medication every month. It just seems like every time my dogs go in for even a check up, the vets they have something seriously wrong with them. Should I possibly look for a second opinion on this?

My buddy and I decided to make a quick trip to a hole I found and ended up with one greenhead from the pair that flew over. We only hunted about 5 or 6 minutes and my parents called me telling me I had to get home for something. Killing one bird is definitely better than sitting around the house doing nothing.

They have a whole bunch of nutria by my house that I plan on trying to trap soon, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some info or tips that could possibly help me catch a few. Thanks

Whats everyone's predictions about the state title games coming up on Friday and Saturday?

December 05, 2009 at 5:58pm

Went down to my buddy's camp for a hunt Sunday morning. Conditions seemed perfect but only two bw teal came into range and we only saw 4 four other ducks besides that. We ended up with one of the teal and my pup retrieved it. This was his second hunt, and he was much better behaved this weekend in the blind and sat still the whole time.

My lab pup always wants to play in his water bowl and I can't seem to keep him from knocking it over. He spills it about 5 times everyday and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. If anyone could give me some suggestions it would be very appreciated. Thanks.

I have a bluetick coon hound that we use to hunt squirrels with. He trees them fine and is a pretty good dog. The only problem is whenever I shoot a squirrel, you almost have to fight him to get it. How can I get him to just allow me to pick it up? any tips or info would be appreciated. Thanks

I was thinking about getting a permit to hunt in sweetwater pond this year and. I was just wondering if its really worth it and if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've been fishing these ponds by my house the past few days, and there seems to be a ton of pretty big carp in them. I've tried a few things, but I never caught one yet. If anyone could give me a few tips it would be great. Thanks

Fished out of Dulac this weekend for the four point landing rodeo. Friday we caught 74 trout 5 reds and 2 sharks with four of us in the boat, and Saturaday we got a late start and caught about 35 trout. All fish caught on plastics.

When she goes to pick the bumper up call or whistle to her and begin to walk backwards. Keep walking backwards for a little ways when she begins to bring it back.

A comment titled: heartworm positive in response to a report titled: Treatment for heartworm positive dogs

Man, I'm sorry to hear that your dog is heart worm positive. Within recent years I have had two that have been heart worm positive, both of which I KNOW did not miss their monthly pill. The ivermectin in these pills are really only good for around 22-25 days, not the full month. I now give one whole pill at the beginning of the month and half on the 15th of heart guard. I put my first positive dog through the treatment that your vet is recommending, and it was horrible. It's similar to putting the dog through chemo. They have to pretty much stay locked up in a crate most of the day during the treatment period as well. Also, After the treatment he was a completely different dog, and I swore I'd never put another dog through it. When my second one tested positive, I have began the cycle of one pill on the first and half on the 15th. We did chest x-rays 6 months after the dog tested positive, and the heart worms did not get worse. They were still present, but not worse. The vet said that if I kept up this pill dosage, the dog would test negative for the worms within the next 6 months. I have also heard this from many other dog owners around our area. I hope this helps.

Well I found my boy. Someone saw me riding around and asked if I was looking for a dog, and they had picked one up. Thanks to everyone who looked. I really appreciate it. It was very relieving knowing that he was safe.

I am also looking for a public area in Dulac. I contacted the Harry Bourg corporation recently looking to get a spot in Sweetwater pond, but they informed me that someone paid to have the entire area leased from them.

I recommend Mr. Jerry Moll with Southern Tradition Dog Training. He does most of his training in the spillway, and he did an awesome job with my dog, Remi. He was always willing to give me advice and assistance with anything, as well as frequently check in throughout the year to make sure my dog is not having any problems.

A comment titled: leash in response to a report titled: hunting with a dog

The reason I am suggesting the leash is because last year was my dog's first year hunting. I had him on a leash all last season to make sure he knew he was not going to leave my side unless i sent him on a retrieve. This season he has not hunted once with the leash and never wanders off unless he's sent.

Yes, the lab in the picture is mine. His call name from the kennel was Duke, but we changed it to Remington. Remi's sire was Diablo and the Dame was Shady.
