Each year I take the family to Grand Isle for a few days of fishing but this year we’re taking the skiff at the end of August does anyone know if the Kingfish are ever caught on the rigs close to shore?
We can catch all the specks and reds we can eat living on the North Shore but we really want to try and catch a king.

We broke two off in Panama City Beach last week and are itching to land one!

Not asking for secrets, just are they out there on those close rigs?

Went out with the wifey last Sunday and picked up one 24' red in stump lagoon, there was a school of reds in there feeding on the mullet but was only able to hook into the one good one and a few rat reds, that action was was over quick with the tide. Pulled the anchor and worked the East bank of the Rigolets and only picked up a few small trout not worth keeping. This area is still very muddy thanks to the Pearl River being over flood stage. We were using popping corks with gulp shrimp for the reds and matrix shad in black chartreuse for the trout. Hope to go out again this weekend.

My Pops coming into town from Alabama and the last couple times I have been to Lake Pontchartrain we have gotten skunked !
We launch out of Madisonville and normally fish the bridges but lately the water has been so dirty we have had no luck.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Any reports on the spec's moving through the Rigolets yet?
We have been down two weekends now and have only picked up a few flounders fishing around the pass that is when the wind was not ripping through there..

We launch the same size boat with a Ranger v6 and the only problems we have are on very steep ramps but then we just use 4x4 low and it comes right out.
I did replace my rear shocks with coil overs and since then no issue with sagging. Don't go small on the boat...get the most your truck can handle or you'll regret it when you hit the chop in Lake P.
Only other advise is don't haul butt with it, I keep it at 65 and it does fine.

Where did you purchase the shrimp from? I have been calling around everywhere and cannot find live shrimp other than at Rigolets Marina.
Also, thank you for the report...looks like you did really good.

I launched from Fort Pike yesterday and fished the Geohaegan canal which is the canal behind the Rigolets marina and did okay considering the weather. Just position yourself with the bank and cast to the deeper water and work the canal. I did not limit on trout but what I did catch were all keepers. The smallest trout was 13'. I used matrix shad in black/chartreuse tail. The bite just felt like a wet rag and then there'd be a trout on the end of it. I let it hit the bottom and rip it hard then let it sit for about 30 seconds on a tight line, go to rip it again and bingo..a trout.
Good luck,

It was nice frying up some fresh trout dinner!!

Just be mindful of the later tide on Saturday, Lake P can get shallow real fast near the shorelines. I'll be the guy in the Mako Pro Skiff on Saturday around 1400 hrs. I hear the bite has been good on the South end of the lake due to the high fresh water coming out of the Pearl River and diluting the North bank. If you see me say hi…….good luck

I spent the last 4 days fishing this area launching from the rigolets bait & seafood marina. the reds were hit and miss in the immediate area like stump lagoon but a local shrimper told me to fish the south bank of lake catherine for reds and then it was on. limited out 3 days in a row on reds. all caught on DOA popping shrimp and live bunkers in the evening high tide. The speck's have all been small and we've been picking up several flounders but they have been very nice sized 16' to 21' flounders picked up on the sand bars in 8 - 10 feet.
it was too stormy to get into borgne with my boat..so no help there.
I'll be out on saturday, good luck.
