Hey, it's Captain Jack coming back from Burus with a load of live shrimp!

Just crossed the ferry in Belle Chase. Wind? There is no wind. Very slick and calm.

I know the weatherman screwed up a lot of people today with the wind. Definitely wasn't 5-10. It was more like 15-20 this morning.

Anyways, we have been hearing lots of reports. Two days ago some really nice fish were caught out by Lake Fortuna. Usually around this time of the year, Mosan Beak Point is a hot spot...the white shrimp start really showing up, and the trout start coming in to eat them. This is the time of the year, when it all kicks off. In another month, the trout that are on the outer edges (eating the white shrimp) and trout that are further out migrate up into the interior marshes. They'll be eating all the white shrimp that start coming out the Delacroix marshes.

I know this year has been rough with the wind direction..nothing but WEST wind. Which is totally the wrong direction for pushing the great water from the sound to the interior and inner bays. However, that's what Mother Nature has been dealing us, so that is what we have to accept.

In all honesty, this is the time of the year when you can go to Stone Island, Iron Banks, The Wreck, closer to Bayou Terre Boeuf, Mosan beak point, further south by California point and catch a big mess of speckled trout.

Our main objective these days is the Mardi Gras cut..the water never stays clean for to long in Black bay because of that cut!

We could be one of the Marina owners that write a long lie about all the fish! People ask why don't we just lie to get more business..but..that's not our style! So, we tell the truth..and we still flourish.

I'll be fishing tomorrow with a couple of my buddies and Sierra. We are going to be shooting a video! So, stay tuned!

Well,
All that being said..we hope to see you this weekend!

Believe it or not, today was a pretty busy day down at Sweetwater! Even though the weather was right offshore (where everyone wanted to fish) today, a few boats still ventured out. Some went as far as Breton Island and had pretty good success. Yesterday, a group of three that went to Breton Island had 60 trout. A couple guys went out to Stone Island; they caught 17 trout, but the weather caught them just as the fish were really starting to bite. They got nervous and came back to the dock. They were able to fish about 45 minutes, and that was a wrap. We had some reports from Bay Gardine from some guys that decided they couldn't make it out to Stone Island. They caught a limit of reds and 6 speckled trout, before the weather set in on them. They said that they were on a decent trout bite, until the wind got strong. When that happened, the trout went away. It looks like the rain forecast is calling for less of a chance of rain for tomorrow than we had today. If you get a chance to come, it is worth coming. The fishing has gotten better...especially the trout fishing. You can't expect to catch the trout with thunderstorms and rough weather. We hope to see you tomorrow! As we are writing this report, Captain Jack, baby Gracie & I, Sierra, are heading to pick up the live bait for all of our wonderful customers tomorrow. Don't let these beautiful live shrimp go to waste! Come get a bucket full and go have some fishing fun!

Quick little report from Sweetwater. Overall, the fishing was pretty decent today. A couple decent reports on speckled trout came in. Mostly, good reports on reds. Wish we had more good news to write about speckled trout. Just a couple people caught in the thirties they said. Pretty much just a redfish day. Captain Jack took out two ladies on a charter, and they limited out on reds. All the fish they caught were caught on live shrimp. Today, they threw the popping cork along the edge of the grass lines, popped the cork a few times and then started to reel in slow..and that's how they caught at least half of them today. We do have plenty of beautiful live shrimp. Tomorrow if you are interested in catching fish..come on down! If you get an itch to catch some fish...we can't wait to see you here at Sweetwater. If you can't back your boat in, or don't want to, we will do it. If you want a ride to and from your vehicle, we can do that. If you want a boat shed, we can provide you with one. If you want tackle, ice, girl, snacks, we have it all! Come on down to Sweetwater..the Marina that loves their customers...and has it all to offer them!
Picture is from Captain Jack's charter today!

Pretty good reports on fishing today. Even a couple decent trout reports but more redfish. Trout reports came from Lake Campo. As far as the redfish, they are scattered all over the interior of Delacroix. Most people said they were fishing grass beds. The bad news is we will probably only have a small amount of shrimp due to more than half the shrimp dying on the way back to the Marina..they only had one ferry operating, so it took 3 hours to get to the Marina..meanwhile, the shrimp were dying. So, we advise everyone to go ahead and grab your bait before coming down. Sorry about the inconvenience. Here are some pictures from Captain Jack's fishing trips last week, which we didn't get to post! Anyways.. can't wait to see ya here at Sweetwater Marina!

Some good stuff to write about! Starting off with the speckled trout reports..a couple customers laid them down in Oak River Bay and Lake Campo..fishing the points. A couple customers did good in Black Bay..they wouldn't tell me their exact spot. Captain Jack fished two trips on Monday. One trip was his cousins from North Carolina. His cousin was a smart man, before he moved out of Louisiana he bought is lifetime hunting and fishing license. Unfortunately, he doesn't get to use it but once a year. He got back to the dock for 6:05pm with his cousins with a limit of reds. He went back out with his customers for the next day. They caught another limit of reds and were back in 30 minutes before the sun set. Captain Jack took his customers again the next morning, and they caught another limit of reds! Yesterday afternoon Captain Jack took out Mr. Bobby with Magic Tilt trailers aka Mr. Magic along with his son-in-law and his grandson. They caught ten reds. Captain Jack will be fishing again this afternoon. We will keep you posted. I guess the best news is the few good reports of trout, which has been horrible this year. We do have some really beautiful live shrimp. If you want to go out there and catch trout, it's probably as good time as any. So, hope to see you here at Sweetwater, the Marina that loves our customers!

Busy day down at Sweetwater! Seemed to be a lot of happy customers coming in with fish today! Seemed like a lot of reds came to the fishcleaning tables. Good news: we will have plenty of live shrimp for tomorrow! Captain Jack, Sierra, Baby Gracie and Buddy are on their way back with a load of shrimp for the Marina! On Captain Jack's charter today, they caught 30 beautiful reds..their limit. Captain Jack won't be fishing again till Tuesday. If you want to charter with Captain Jack on Monday, give him a call. He will take you out and get your limit if reds! A couple decent trout reports came in. If you get a chance, come on down and get in on the fishing action! Sorry about the no reports lately. However, we have been changing a few things around the Marina. We have a new office lady in training. So, no more talking to me, Sierra. Her name is Keli. And that is who you will be talking to on Monday-Friday. On weekends we will not be booking rooms or charters, unless you are looking for a room or a charter for that weekend. Otherwise, you will have to call on Monday-Friday. Captain Jack would like to thank CRC for the great turn out last weekend. Captain Jack fished Monday..ended it with 10 reds..they battled rain storms. They fished long and hard and only ten reds all day. Today, Captain Jack fished and they had 25 reds and 9 black drum. Fishing was a lot easier today. Seems like it picked up a little again. Tomorrow Captain Jack will be on another charter. We will keep you posted on what happens tomorrow. We have plenty of live bait for tomorrow. Come see us here at Sweetwater Marina, the Marina that loves our customers.

Pretty slow day down at Sweetwater. Overall, the fishing was pretty good for some of the customers. Sorry about miswriting yesterday, when I said trout were only on the outside. They are still catching in the interior. They are catching in the twin pipe line area from Lake John to False river. They are still catching some trout on the inside in Fourhorse. Overall, the best fishing is the outer edges of Delacroix marshes, Lake Campo, Oak river bay. There aren't large numbers there. Some guys had 36 from Lake campo today. One group had 13 from shell Lake, which is way in the interior of Delacroix. So, who really knows? It's fishing. To be honest, the best fishing is on the outsiders of now. Captain Jack is going to the outside tomorrow to fish.. he hopes he remembers how to get there, since it's been so long. On today's charter, Captain Jack and his customers had 30 reds, 5 bass, 1 sheepshead and 1 freshwater cat. We will keep you posted tomorrow on how he does. See you all tomorrow.

Captain Jack had a charter today, and they limited out on reds. He says they are catching mostly reds. They are catching trout on the outside. However, the most important info is about our LIVE SHRIMP!!!! Pay attention...we will have SOME live shrimp. We are more than sure that we will run out quickly. Please stop on your way down to pick some up! Please do not call asking if we still have live shrimp...we do not have a bait shop phone only a office phone...so, I won't be there to know when we run out...even if we have some left when you call..who knows when we will run out...after I get off the phone with you we may have a rush and run out in ten minutes....so, I will not answer that question..bc when you get there and we are out you'll be p-o' d !!!! Sorry about the inconvenience. There was an issue with the live shrimp...some died, when trying to transfer them. Again..very sorry..please do everyone a favor and pick some up for tomorrow!!! We can't wait to see you here at Sweetwater Marina, the Marina that loves their customers! Also, if you need lodging for Saturday we do have some available rooms. We are completely booked for Friday night! See ya tomorrow! Picture included is from Jack's charter trip today!

Quick little report from Sweetwater. Not really a lot to write about. It's been pretty slow down here lately. The few fisherman that have been going have been catching decent amounts of reds. The guides that are going out are limiting out in reds. Trout fishing has been pretty hit or miss. Most of the trout action is coming from Fourhorse, Lake John area, Potto Cabalo and Lake Campo area. Over the weekend, a few people caught decent amounts of trout..but not many. Looking forward to the Holy Cross fishing tournament this weekend. Hoping his year won't be a washout. It's been a wash out the last four years, I believe. Whether you are a Holy cross graduate or not, come on down and launch your boat this weekend..the weatherman says good weather so far...no tropical threats. We have plenty of live shrimp. If you get the itch to do some fishing, we will be happy to help you here at Sweetwater. We look forward to seeing you guys. Also, everyone say a prayer that they shut down the Mardi Gras cut like they have been saying they are going to...fishing will be good again!

Some good fishing the last few days out of Sweetwater! Seems like the customers have been catching lots of reds. There are scattered trout reports. Overall, I think there is enough action with the reds to make it all worth while. Captain Jack fished the last two days with his 6 buddies from a Georgia and Florida. The last two days they caught 60 reds and released BUNCHES !!! Here we go again. Not even June..and our first tropical threat of the year. Hopefully, the lord will spare us here in Saint Bernard Parish. We pray for everyone in the storms path. We want to give a shout to Rummel students that chartered 4 boats yesterday! Attached is a pic from Captain Jack's charter today and pics of the Rummel students from yesterday! Come see what the fishing is doing here in Delacroix. You won't regret it. We can't wait to see you here at Sweetwater Marina!

It's going to be hard to fish a place to tick in out of the wind this Saturday, maybe a few little spots directly across from the marina where you might be able to get out of the wind. And we should have live shrimp.

We are very sorry you didn't enjoy your experience staying with us at Sweetater Marina. We value all of our customers and welcome their feedback. To that end Capt. Jack spent some time today going through the towels and checking the lights in the rooms to see if they need to be changed or could have higher watt bulbs in them and just generally checking all the rooms. We will also be making sure all rooms have an extra set of sheets, a blanket and a pillow in the drawers under the bunk beds. As for being pricey, we feel that our prices on shrimp and gas are competitive with other Marina's in the area and are more than fair. And we know it's a hike up the stairs, but since we were built after Katrina we had no choice. However, we do take issue with your claim that there was no sofa sleeper in your room. Rooms 2-5, we believe you were in room 5, absolutely all have a full size sofa sleeper (although Capt. Jack recommends just sleeping on ythe sofa though because the sofa bed is not very comfortable). Again, we appreciate your business and the feedback and are changing some things because of it and hope you will give us another try next time you are in Delacroix.

we would love to see you tomorrow morning at Sweetwater Marina. Capt. Jack will not be there until a little later tomorrow, but just ask for Mr. Ronnie. He will be able to point you in the right direction and put you on the fish. Hopefully Capt. Jack will be there when you get back. You picked a good time for your 1st Delacroix fishing trip. The fishing has been great this year. Good luck.

We are very sorry about your experience. Having all been in similar situations we would hope that rules would be bent and common sense employed. We also know our young staff understands how important customer service is to us at Sweetwater and we see them go above and beyond on a daily basis to make sure anyone launching at Sweetwater has a great experience. Capt. Jack has already made some phone calls and dscussed how to better handle this type of situattion in the future. As always, we appreciate any input from our customers, good and bad.

Capt.Jack just read this post and is very sorry that you got stuck and we were unable to help, but to be fair, Capt. Jack always goes the extra mile not only for his customers, but anyone who needs help. Just a couple of weeks ago he purchased bamboo, then in addition to the $ spent on the bamboo, spent an entire day with one of his employees to mark the channel to help keep folks from getting stuck. On one Saturday last month we had 5 people call who were stuck and wanted to get towed in. In almost all cases an airboat was needed, Jack couldn't get to them even if he had been here. That day and on many other days we spend countless time on the phone with the St. Bernard Sheriff, Coast Guard and Sea Tow. We made sure everyone made it in even though Jack couldn't help them himself. And please keep in mind that Capt. Jack is not always here. Running a Marina entails much more than sitting in the bait shop helping launch boats. We appreciate everyone who defended Sweetwater And Capt. Jack. We love our customers, ya'll are great. We are also in full agreement about Sea Tow. BECOME A MEMBER. We are also truly sorry for this anglers experience, while we try to make everyone's experience down here in Delacroix a good one (even if you don't launch here), unfortunately you can't please everyone. That goes for any business and life in general.

A comment titled: Captain Jack - Sweetwater Marina in response to a report titled: !!!!BEWARE OF SERINGE'S LAUNCH!!!!!

Capt. Jack doesn't have a feud with anyone and has always been willing to work with and be helpful to anyone and everyone he meets. Those of you who are regulars at Sweetwater and have met Jack know this already. He is working very hard to get his shrimp boat up and running and to get fuel put in to make his business better, not to put anyone out of business. Once he has live bait and fuel on a regular basis it will be available to anyone, no matter where they launch. His goal is not and has never been to put anyone out of business. Anyone who fishes Delacroix regularly knows there is plenty of business to go around.

Thanks Spec hound. Captain Jack couldn't get them today though. He went out with Captain C.T. for a fish and game report. They tried for trout, on top and bottom, they did not bite today. He said they caught a few here and there. They limited out on Reds in Oak River. Reds arejust as good as tey have been.

Unfortunately we will be out of live shrimp this weekend. Captain Jack suggests getting your shrimp at Gulf Outlet Marina or Bait Inc. before you head out here to Delacroix.
