Today I was fishing the Amite River, and a man who lives near it came up to me and told me that I was fishing on private property. It was clearly not private property. I don't have a boat, so i fish from the bank. It seems like there are less and less places for bank anglers like me to fish. If you have a boat you have easy access to many places, but it seems that everytime I find a good place to fish from the bank, there is some promblem with it like it is "private", etc. I think that this is a serious promblem for fishermen like me. Think about it guys, bank fishing is fishing at it's finest. No fancy boats with fancy engine, just you and your pole fishing from the bank. That is what fishing is and that is what fishing is all about. I think that this promblem needs to be addressed. What do all ya'll other fellers think about this issue.

The past two days I have been fishing the mighty Amite River for catfish. In two days I have not caught a single fish, and I've only got ONE bite! I have been using chicken livers for bait. I know that the Amite has got plenty of cats in it and I just don't understand why I didn't have any luck. Has anyone been fishing the river latley, and if so, how have you been doing?

I have never used a troutline before until today. It had 10 hooks on it and I baited them with chicken livers. I put this troutline in the Amite. I put the line out this evening and I plan on going out and checking it in the morning. Do those of you who use troutlines in the Amite catch cats on them often. When I put the line out, i wasen't able to put the lines out THAT far out in the river. Will that affect anything? I'll post if I get anything on em' in tommorow. Also, I want to start fishing the Amite for cats often. If anyone who has fished it for a while could give me some tips, i'd appreciate it. Thanks, God Bless, and let's go huntin for some monster mud cats!!!!!!!!

I was In The Amite River swimming & all of the sudden the current shifted & carried me to the other side of the river and was stuck there! I had to live off of worms and if this happens to you try to watch out for those canibals, they are crazy, unlike myself of course! Later I was saved by Capt. Smith, of the TITANIC.

I want to buy some chicken livers for catfishing. Does anyone know if Walmart sells chicken livers? If not, who does?

April 10, 2007 at 9:02pm

We got a good rain today in Denham Springs. I know that the Amite will be up tommorow. Will the higher water be good conditions for me to catch some monster cats?

April 10, 2007 at 8:35pm

Has anyone fished the Amite River in and around Denham Springs latley? Is anyone catching anything and if so, what are you catching and what bait are you using?

Happy Easter

Hey ya'll. I planned on going fishing in a man-make lake not far from my house today. I'm fishing for sac-a-lait and bass. I woke up and saw that it is 52 degrees and it was cold last night. Should I even bother going fishing today or is the water too cold?

I have a question about trout lines. I have some buddies who have been catching some nice catfish on trout lines. Walmart sells trout lines for 15 bucks. I was wondering if there is a way that I can make my own instead off spending my 15 bucks? What bait do ya'll suggest for catching catfish? thanks, and God Bless

Hey ya'll, your Uncle Spanky needs some help. I've never really been a big bass fishermen, but I am looking to get into it more. I fish a man made lake. It is very deep in some places, around 20 feet deep. There is lots of cane grass along the banks, along with sticks and obstructions. The water is pretty dark in it also. The lake has been around for a long time. My dad and his brothers used to fish it 30 years ago, so I know there are some lunkers in the lake. Years, back one guy caught a 8.5 pounder in it. 20 years ago my uncle caught a 6.5 pounder in it. So with all of that said, I need to know what kind of bait ya'll would fish. I have seen alot of people throwing 6" lizards of every color and I've also seen people throwing different types of baby brush hogs. What baits should I try, how should I work them and what time of day is best for bass?

Thanks alot for all the help, God Bless, and Good Fishing!
Only 5 more months until football season!! AMEN!

Me and my pawpaw fished our honey hole today from about 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. We ended up having a pretty good time. When it was all said and done we ended up with 6 quality sac-a-lait and one small bass. I caught one sac-a-lait that was an absolute monster. It doesn't do the fish justice to call it a slab, it's more like a MONSTER. It is honestly the biggest sac-a-lait i've ever seen. The MONSTER was 14 inches long and 1 and 3/4 pounds!!!! That beauty was almost 2 pounds!!! I'm am prouder than heck of that fish. It was very fat, had some meat on it. That stringer me and paw caught is gonna taste mighty good on that dinner table!! I know there are gonna be some sceptics about my fish. I will post a picture of it as soon as possible. I'm not big on technology, but I guarantee that I will have it posted by this weekend. So just keep on checking things out.

March 19, 2007 at 8:37pm

I've got a question for ya'll. Does anyone happen to know what the Louisiana state record for sac-a-lait is? If not, is there a website I can go to to find this out?
Thanks

I guys. Your Uncle Spanky fished at my freshwater honey hole today. Let me just tell ya that the freshwater action is really heating up! The bass are starting to come on and the sac-a-lait or hitting on jigs, worms, and shiners. I set up some jug lines today and I can't wait to go back in the morning and see what I did. This is the rodeo boys, and I'm riding the buckin bronco. Ride cowboy ride.

I feel for ya stick-em. This truly is an issue that needs to be addressed throughout the state. I had a post recently talking about this promblem, but most of the "sportsmen" on this site thought what you and I are saying was a waste of time. I guess that the art of bankfishing is being lost, man this sure aint the good ole days!

A comment titled: real fishermen in response to a report titled: bank fishing injustice

I don't consider all you guys who disagree with me real fishermen. You guys have your fancy boats, etc. Fishing in it's purest form is fishing from the bank. It takes a real fishermen to fish from the bank, and it takes more skill and patience to fish from the bank. You can take some rich pansy from Hollywood and put em in a boat and take em out and they can catch fish. But I guarantee they can't sit on a bank and fish the old fashioned way. That is real fishing. For all you guys who disagree with me, call yourselves fishermen all you want, but I disagree. REBEL16 is a real fishermen, just like me!

I really don't mind if the cops throw me in jail because if I catch a MONSTER MUD CAT before they arrest me, then it's all worth it baby!!!

We went there 2 weeks ago and got nothing. The commercial fishermen don't even have their traps in the water. Everyone says that it is too early and the water is still too cold! I would wait until mid April.
