What a great First Deer. My daughter braved the cold, wind, and rain with me to connect with her first deer! She showed me how it was done dropping him in his tracks at 200 yards.
After missed opportunities in past years my 16 yr old daughter Averie Williams braved the wind, rain, and cold one afternoon on our South Central Arkansas hunting lease to finally connect with a buck of a lifetime. After sitting in our box stand for two hours with the wind whipping the rain in a beautiful buck stepped out at 275 yds. She eased her Remington 270 out of the window and showed me how it was done. Waiting patiently as the buck turned towards us and walked to about 200 yards. He then made a turn to the woods. With a command from me to shoot now she squeezed the trigger and that buck didn't take another step. She dropped him in his tracks. The excitement and celebration was epic. I've been a deer hunter for about 10 years and have never had the opportunity at a buck like this. But, sitting there witnessing her place a perfect shot and falling in love with this great sport was better than me shooting ten trophies. It was a proud day for both of us and one we won't soon forget.
Hey guys been reading a long time and finally registered. Been a hard core duck hunter most of my life but with the decline of birdsover the last several years figured deer hunting is a better gamble. I still duck hunt 10 or 15 times a year ( and shoot a few birds ) but mixed in a good bit of deer hunting th last two years. Last year was my first year and was discouragingly uneventful. But my luck sure was changed this year. It was the last saturday of the blackpowder season and it was pouring down raining. About 8:00am I was sitting there wondering what the hell I was doing in that climber when the most beautiful 9 pt. walked out on me. trying to collect my nerves I squeezed off a shot. once the smoke cleared I saw that it ran about 30 yds. and fell, I have never been so thrilled. I was hollering and jumping in my stand, I was dancing like ten indians. I'm little embarrassed that it took me until the age of 27 to get that first one but I'm hooked. And i got alot more meat in the freezer from one hunt than i get all season duck hunting. He was a 9 pt. with a 14 3/4" spread and 135 pounds. not huge but he'll do. Thanks for all the good stories. Hope i have more for ya'll next year.
