I have an airboat that I use for bowfishing, I would like to bowfish in Lake Maurepas, in order for me to do so I would have to launch at Reserve Canal which the launch is not on the WMA. But this navaigable waterway runs through the WMA for about 1-1/2 miles directly into Lake Maurepas. Is it legal for me to use this waterway to access Lake Maurepas? Do I need a special permit to do so? I DO NOT want to go into the WMA or off of the main canal whatsoever for any reason, I just want to simply pass thru to gain access to the Lake. I tried calling WLF but they keep transfering me all over the place and no one can seem to give me an answer. Thanks in advance for any responces.

Sunday I decieded to go squirrel hunting, so i hooked up the go-devil and launched a on the side of Hwy 51 in LaPlace. All went well, was able to kill a limit just before the rain. Got back to the launch, picked up the boat and began to drive off when I heard a sound about 2 miles down the road. I then pulled over and noticed both of my trailer tires were about to fall off. Some JACKA$$ removed all of my lugs but one on each side! had to unhook the boat, race to advanced auto parts, buy the last 2 lugs they had in stock, race back to the boat and fix this stupid $h%* in the pouring rain, all because some @$$hole probaly thought it would be funny to cause an accident and probaly have someone killed!!! Next time im just going with an empty trailer and wait inside the trees for them!!! Sorry just had to vent!

Young boaters dont for get you have to take a boating education course if you were born after January 1, 1984. This is mandatory by July 1, 2010.
This can be done in a class or online for $15

I know that its illegal shoot deer from a boat with a trolling motor, but is it also illegal shoot squirrels like this or do you have to paddle? any info on this?

February 03, 2009 at 2:22pm

All duck/deer hunters should always bring a rifle in the duck blind just in case. Copy and paste this link, just thought it was kinda cool.

Are you serious?? I hunt strictly area 6, and its straight swamp evrywhere, and I made at leaset 75 hunts this year, some private land and some public, and of all those hunts there were less than 5 that i can recall not seeing at least 1 deer. and when I do see deer its usually 5 or more does, what I dont see much of is bucks!!!! if anything you should be able to kill does all season long espically on maurepas swamp wma, and limit the number of days to kill bucks! they are the ones that are scarce.

A comment titled: Round Swamp Hunting Club in response to a report titled: Circle Swamp Hunting Club

Round Swamp is the name, was in that club for 6 years, got out last year due to the people that run the lease taking money from the members and gambling the money away, resulting in them losing half of the hunting lease where all my stands were located. Lots of B.S. goes on there, in 6 years killed 1 3pt and 3 does, hardly ever seen deer, lots of spikes and inbred bucks, never got any nice bucks on camera, email me for more info if you want. My advice would be to move on and look for something better. Good luck!

A comment titled: Arctic cat in response to a report titled: Buyer Beware

My grandpa bought 2 arctic cat 250 2wd from ATV Zone in roseland 4 years ago. The first day the were off the trailer, both went back on with 1 hour due to the transmission. These thing have been the biggest piece of $h!t ever bought. One of them has been to the shop 13 times and the other 11 times, about 6 or 7 times it has been transmission problem, other times they dont run or wont start. I have seen cheap chinese bikes work better than these pieces of crap. He always say he should of bought honda, only reason he bought these is because arctic cat was the only bike that came a 3 year warranty (guess now we know why). Anyways after dealing whith this junk for so long and too many headaches they have been sitting in his shed for the last 2 years rotting because they are not worth the time dealing with, thats right only used both for 2 years. Do yourself a favor SAY AWAY FROM ARCTIC CRAP!!! Buy a Honda, and if you must than buy Yamaha, but just DO NOT buy an ARCTIC TRASH! I'm just sayin!

A comment titled: buckshot in response to a report titled: Buckshot

You can kill deer easily at 60-80 yards with buckshot, that pretty much all I use, at least 95% of the time. I have killed at least 10 deer at 100 yards, and 1 at 115 with remington 000 3' mag using a remington 11-87 with a 30' barrel full choke (10 out of 10 pellets at 85 yards). I also have a remington 870 supermag that shoots the 3-1/2' and with winchester 00bk I get 18 out of 18 pellets in a 4x4 sheet of plywood at 85 yards.I have never lost a deer that I have shot at with buckshot or never had one run out of sight, and im talking about 50-60 deer. That is all i have ever used ever since I was little because of the club I was in ran dogs, I hunt the same swamp as cajunhopper so Im sure he knows what im talking about. dont underestimate buckshot, If you dont think it has enough power than stand at 100 yards and let someone shoot at you with it!! just my .02

YES it is legal to hunt SQUIRREL ONLY out of a boat with motor running. I do it with my trolling motor. I have already been stopped for doing it and let go. I was told that I can do this directly from head Captain of Wildlife Enforcement division. Here is his info if you dont think you can than call for your self.

dont listen to these guys, yes they probaly do, i hunted a lease with my father-in-law in east Texas only 25 minutes from the louisiana state line along interstate 10, and we saw them all the time, about 8 foot from nose to tip of tail. I dont doubt they could have gone 20 miles east into louisiana.

A comment titled: longtail in response to a report titled: GO DEVIL OR SURFACE DRIVE

OH NO hot this question again. Simple, if you hunt marsh where theres nothing but mus and grass than go with the surface drive, Hardwood cypress swmp with trees, logs, a million stumps, than stay with the long tail. Everyone in our hunting club had longtails, then the ones with money seen the surface drives and decided they would get that, BIG MISTAKE, now there are 3 surface drive boats in our club and when those idiots need help to get there boats stuck off of logs and stumps because they cand reach their prop around to get water behind the boat, I refuse to help. If you want to see a difference i can take you with me in my 27hp go-devil longtail, and get one of the other guys in the club with his surface drive to follow us, and i guarantee after the first 10 minutes you will spit on the next surface drive you see. Not saying they arent great for the marsh cause they are, just not in wooded swamp.

Go-devil in baton rouge also sells go-devils that the frame angle is different to fit on a 20" transom

A comment titled: go-devil in response to a report titled: Go Devil Motor

I had the same problem. I had a 20" transom and tried the cavitation plate bending but that dosent get it to where it will stay in the water. Whit I did was cut the transom down to 16" but left the sides the same height. email me and i'll send you some pics of mine and how I did it, very simple you just have to have someone that can weld aluminum.

I have owned 5 different glocks and they have all been junk. Not a single one of them would shoot straight. Not to mention they feel like you are holding a 2x4. I now have 2 springfield xd pistols, a 9mm and a 40. Not a single comaint about eiter one. Had a SW sigma in 40 cal and it wasn't bad. Have no experience with any others you mentioned but I now swear by springfield armory.
