So for 6 years Chris Long and I have been hunting Tensas refuge looking for one of those elusive studs that it's known to hold. Over those 6 years I've been fortunate to lay down a couple of respectable bucks, but Chris hadn't had the opportunity. That was until yesterday when this giant Madison parish bruiser stepped out and met his demise. Six years of a lot of hours in a tree, and many many miles walked all paid off. 8 point with a 20 inch spread, rough scored 140 inches even. This hoss had been eating well for a long time and weighed in at 258 lbs. Congrats buddy, glad I got to share this memory with you, all that hard work finally paid off.

What a year! My wife Samantha has been hard after this deer since the beginning of bow season. She and I have been trying for two months to get this deer in front of her, but he was always one step ahead of us. This morning the stars all aligned and she finally got her chance. He came out to corn at 0718. The wind switch last night made this stand the ideal choice, and he read the script and gave her a 90 yard shot. We passed this buck last year as an 8 point, it sure is rewarding to see our management pay off. She has put in more work this year than most seasoned hunters and its great to see her close the deal. Im one proud husband to say the least! 130 6/8' 187lbs. West Feliciana 12/18/16

Not how I had planned on this hunt going down, but I was able to connect on a buck that Ive had several years of history with. Had this buck pretty well patterned and yesterday it all came together. Saw the deer around 830 am and he didnt give me a shot. At 6 pm the buck came back in and took almost 30 mins to come into range. He got nervous and started to leave and gave me a 32 yard quartering away shot. I rushed the shot and ended up hitting the deer back. So I backed out and gave him 3 hours but when I went back I walked up on the deer in his bed still alive. So i backed out and unfortunately was unable to go back the next morning due to work. Went back this evening and found the deer right where he had bedded down. I really hate losing a deer due to spoiling, but am happy I was able to recover him. Rough scored 123 5/8, still in full velvet. Killed on October 5th. Largest bow kill to date.

Shot this melanistic coyote this morning with my bow. Was able to get the shot on film as well.

I killed this deer on Saturday December 7 at 430 pm. We have had pictures of this deer on our cameras for the last couple of months, and all were at night. When reviewing this deer on camera we expected he would score in the mid 120's. Luckily however there was no ground shrinkage and we had underestimated him quite a bit. The deer ended up scoring 136 3/8 inches with mass measurements of over 5 inches at the bases. This made the deer my personal best buck by a couple of inches score wise, but he was by far the biggest bodied deer I have taken. This has been a great season for my fiance' and I, with both of us taking our personal best deer in the last two weeks from the same property. And judging by this deer it appears the pre-rut activity is picking up in West Feliciana. The buck had started to smell and his neck measured 22 inches around at the jaw and 30 inches at the base. Killed him cruising in a small food plot back in the woods off of a large green field.

On November 20 my fiance finally got the buck she deserved. For the last two years she has helped scout, hang stands, plant food plots, check trail cameras, and anything else that is deer hunting related. Last season she put in as many hours in a deer stand as any other hunter I know. She was there rain, sleet, snow, or shine, but couldn't connect with any of the bucks we were after. She also picked up bowhunting in the off season to give herself more opportunities. Well all her patience finally paid off, and I'm still not sure which one of us was happier. This amazing woman gives me a run for my money every day, and now she's giving me a run for my money in the deer stand.I also forgot to mention that she jumped the deer from her food plot going to her stand and he came back two hours later. She shot him quartering away and he ran 120 yards and fell over.

Had some pics of this buck early bow season, and hadn't seen him since. Showed up on 11/16 grunting and chasing a doe. Shot him at 110 yards with a 270 wsm and he dropped in his tracks. Deer scored 121' with 12 and 11 inch g2's.

This is a deer that my buddy killed 11/12 off of a stand that we had been hunting pretty hard since opening day. I had plans to go hunt the spot that evening, but when he called and said he had gotten off work early and was on his way, I told him to have at it. He called me about thirty mins later saying he had one down. Walked up and the deer was standing in the lane waiting on him. Not a monster, but definitely a unique rack.

This deer had a broken shoulder and it affected his rack a lot. Really didnt know if he would make it, and never expected his rack to do anything. I was definitely wrong. Just proves these deer have a will to live.

For this girl, my Christmas break ended on a great note before packing up and going back to college. I took a break from fixing fence on some land we run cows and decided to go on an evening hunt since my grandpaw offered to take me to one of his stands while I was home on break.

Instead of a detailed story I'm going to mention all of the wrong conditions that led to this kill.

1. The weather was hot...in december
2. The wind was blowing my scent (sweaty from fixing fence earlier that day)into the woods
3. I got to the stand a little later than I should have
4. I bumped the wall of the stand
5. The chair squeaked as I kicked off a boot to sit on my leg for a better view
6. The does and yearlings looked directly at me with my gun sticking out of the stand so I could watch them up close and didn't take off
7. There had not been any big or decent shooter buck spotted in this location this year

I guess that this all goes to show that you with favorable conditions you aren't guaranteed sucess, with the most unlikely conditions you aren't guaranteed failure. I love to hunt and love to be be outdoors and after the many favorable condition hunts in Louisiana and Arkansas that led to going home empty handed sucess is even sweeter before going back to college.

Hunted this deer hard since the beginning of bow season and finally connected with him on November 14. He finally showed his face on probably one of the worst days weather condition wise i had hunted. It was in the 70s that morning and the wind was blowing 20+ mph in the field I was hunting, but after only 40 mins on the stand the deer appeared at 40yds and presented a perfect shot. The deer green scored at 133 and had a 17 7/8 in inside spread with 24in main beams. To date this is my second largest buck.

Congratulations man! Not very often you see a deer that wide. Just goes to show you can't kill them if you aren't hunting!

A comment titled: Fuzzy picture in response to a report titled: How wide

It's hard to tell from just this picture, but I would say 16-17 wide and 3.5 to 4.5 yrs old.

A comment titled: Thats awesome in response to a report titled: Arcadia 12 point

Weve got a lot of family land less than 5 miles north of town. My family has been hunting there forever. Ive killed some good bucks the past few years up that way, but nothing close to this deer though. Good management pays off every time. Johnny Durrett sure would make that deer look great on the wall for you. Congrats man.

Thats a big deer for Arcadia, I actually killed a 121' 8 point that same morning chasing a doe just north of the interstate in Arcadia. Were you north or south of Arcadia?

I've tried to answer this post three times now and it hasn't showed up,so here we go again. I shoot 150 gr federal fusion ammo. I've had real good luck with this round and it shoots very well in my rifle.

A comment titled: Love this gun.... in response to a report titled: Tall Tines in Bienville Parish

I have been fortunate enough to take 9 good bucks and 5 does with this gun in the four years I've owned it. I don't know that I will ever get rid of this gun, it has exceeded all expectations I had for the caliber. I switched to it from a 280, and like the other guy said I have had only one deer run any distance. He was a 4.5 yr old eight point that had a will to live, because the bullet did everything it was supposed to do.
