Do ya' think she's gonna be embarrassed over the Star Spangled Banner Rendition?

Good Grief...seems like if you knew you where performing at such an event that, well, you'd study the song...at least a little bit, eh?

Another slap in Americas Face...We're supposed to be the Best of the Best...whats wrong here?

How many of you fellow sportsmen have had notable success calming or enticing deer to move around you with a call?

Curious; I've never been very successful at it...

Well closing the book on the 2010-11 season with a Smile :-)

While I'd be the first to admit we didn't kill large quanities of ducks this year, I'd have to also admit I was only able to make two trips!

The first trip was opening day of the second split and my last was yesterday. Many issues where in my way and prevented me from maximizing my enjoyment of this sport...we did however manage to get our two man limit on that first trip and manage a one man limit between the two of us on the last trip (no pic.).

I think I'd rate this year as good as last year, even though I didn't hunt as much in; or harvest the quanity of 2009-10

It was still great to get out and enjoy the great gifts we've been given in the 'Sportsmans Paradise'

No POLITICS unless related to Hunting & Fishing????

C'mon ANDY, I admit I've been away from the LSM site for several weeks or maybe even more than a month, but whats up with THAT?

We all develope friendships with each other as fellow SPORTSMAN and we like to bounce a view point or feeling out for all to chime in on, especially in a day and age where the politicians seem to think they are UNTOUCHABLE.

Frankly, unless the political comments got to be the main post being posted on this site, for the life of me I can't see the reason for their EXCLUSION. In days gone-by a person could view specfic forum topics and hence never even have to bother themselves with POLITICS or ANY OTHER Forum they didn't choose to dive off into!

I'd much rather discuss ANY FORUM Topic among friends and neighbors with things in Common (SPORTSMAN)and POLITICS are a necessary aspect of our lives.

ANDY, again not having been here for a while, I'm not sure what has taken place but this SMACKS of some sort of Internet Censorship from the Internet Police, did someone put the pressure on you?

If it was just goofy retoric or he said she said, Man people can see right through that stuff for what it is!

I'd ask you to reconsider your decision and stand for what is right and truly free!

Have a Great Day...

Man the ducks were flying today! Had a real good mix too. I guess that really cold stuff finally brought some numbers down...Big'uns, Medium'uns and Small'uns.

Even had a flock of Shovelers about(30)land not once but twice, don't know if it was the same flock (they were about an hour apart). I took one drake, but lost him in the marsh (no dog).

Final Tally = (2) Green Heads, (1) Grey Duck Hen, (2) Green Wing Teal and MIA (1) Shoveler Drake...

It was a Good Day to be out in the marsh and got my 1st Green Head of the year!

All right guys, I'm thinking of getting a 4 wheeler. I've only owned 3 wheelers back in the 80's so I'm looking for some things to keep in mind while I search for a good one that won't break the bank!

Can ya'll help me?

THANKS...

October 22, 2009 at 12:32pm

Went to the west side of the state this weekend to bring my 11yr old nephew on his 1st hunt of any kind.

I had vehicle troubles on the way so I didn't get to pre-scout the WMA on Fri. like I wanted to and only had a little time to check the area of 58,000+ acres out before dark.

Sat. morning we get up, get ready and GO! Go where? Well I'm pondering this on our drive to the area. Well its not so important to me that he make a kill to brag about, but that I bring him to an area I can show him a vast range of deer habitat in the woods.

Well being already behind the 8ball and seriously handicapped with no scouting, I just drove...drove....and drove, never knew how BIG 58k acres was till I started driving around in it. Well anyhoo... I found the Forest diversity I wanted and we started hoofin it step by step!

I find signs and stop show and explain it, man...he was gettin pumped. We found the perfect combo of Topo and found an old log to perch on. Started talking 'bout the Hunters Safety Class he had recently attended, when movement catches my eye. We get stood up behind cover and he's in the ready position, lookin' for the quarry of our hunt!

I'm watching them as they begin to work their way right toward us! This is fantastic...hes got his little 20ga youth model pump gun... that he got to shoot for the first time yesterday evening (Fri.) twice just before dark. This is going to be good, what a Great start to a lifetime of Hunting.

I'm to his right and behind him about 2 foot, we're both standing behind some bushes and vines, but I'm about 18" taller than my lil'huntin' buddy. Our quarry is still comin'on strong! They just cleared some brush and brammel and I give him the ok to shoot..., nothin' happened. Now, our deer quarry is gettin' really close and can see me! I'm frozen in time and space, with my mouth open and not moving I'm trying to be a ventriloquize and tell him to shoot!!

This deer team is getting very suspicious buy now and decide to turn an take leave of this unknown situation...an off they went. They never scented us nor did they snort at us, we were down wind of them. Now I'm happy but sad and ask why didn't you shoot.

I'm like really dumb-founded, it was a picture perfect moment!
I'm befuzzled, what happened? Why didn't you shoot? What was wrong? Then came the reply...

I didn't have a clear shot! What...WHAT??? Oh-man OH MAN What you mean you didn't have a CLEAR SHOT? Now I'm thinking maybe he just didn't have it in him. I know my view was clear and unobstructed.

So I bend down to him and am about to tell him it'll be alright, maybe we need to start with small game and work our way up to deer...when I notice the vines that obstructed his VIEW!!!

I sat back on the ole' log and had a good laugh...we saw 3 more deer that morning but none presented good target to shoot at!

But it was a FANTASTIC DAY in a strange place for us! Those deer will be etched in our memories for the rest of our days...

Good Huntin' and Hope Everyone has a Safe Season.......

A comment titled: Do the Research... in response to a report titled: No Deer Dogs

G.H.Gtr... when YOU do begin to 'See' it happening, it will be affecting you as well as every other hunter.

QUOTE - (GreenHeadGtr: I have no problem with dog hunters and dont to see any of our hunting or fishing rights taken away.)

I guess the Interference of MDWFP with proposed regulations for 'DOG HUNTING Licenses' as you say or the Feds on Kisatchie NF banning 'Dog Hunting' or Georgia's legislative act making 'Manditory' the permiting of 'Dog Hunters' (another license) for every 'Dog deer hunter' or what about Missouri not allowing it period, and the list could go on and on and on! What about statements like the ones quoted in the last LINK, by Cass Sunstein, now the US Regulatory Czar a man in power and poised for action....I say GH Gtr, don't stick your head in the sand on this one, cuzz this Black Hole won't stop until its got you, me and every other hunter and fisherman sucked in...

http://www.opposingviews.com/i/cass-sunstein-has-secret-animal-rights-agenda

Do your own research and see the truth...the Truth Shall Set Us on the Right Course of Action and it doesn't have anything to do with banning 'Dog Hunting or any other type of Hunting'

Maybe if the 'Dog Hunting' is such a pain in the neck for Non-dog Hunters of which I am one, maybe the seasons need to change to Deer season w/out dogs and a Deer season for Dog Hunting Only?? That would be about as fair and impartial as it could get, right??

The solution needs to come from within our ranks, not from those interested in shutting down hunting!

A comment titled: Good Stuff in response to a report titled: Visual Distress Signals

Good Stuff there N1UN...Opinion#1 the aerial flares are good for night time use (guess you could use them in daylight) and give you a much greater range of (flare) visibility than a hand held type (height above the horizon) and hence a better chance of being seen. Also, a hand held flare increases the risk of a fire onboard your vessel (not a good thing) since the flare slag could fall in your boat. I carry both and extras.

I think I'd have a talk with the manufacture of the failed flare, they may not know they have a possible bad batch of flares out there.

VDSignal equipment has been around along time, but an even better system is to have VDS for sure but also have Cell Phone, VHF Radio, GPS device to call for and guide help to you...technology has its benifits.

Calling 911 and giving GPS cooridnates can get help right to you when seconds counts.

We all should practice the ole'adage (An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a POUND of Cure), but 'C'est la vie' most won't do it!

A comment titled: Speed O Meters in response to a report titled: Details on fatal boat collision

My condolences to the families of a fallen Sportsman.

I believe good ole' fashioned common sense and prudent judgement are best lines of defense to help prevent such accidents.

Quit Hugging Banks, reduce your speed for your surroundings and visiblity, run the middle;its safer making course corrections to avoid other traffic or obstructions.

Its probably gonna come down to having to get a separate license to operate a watercraft. Thats not the answer (education is), but it'll be the means to controling the operators.

The Coast Guard Aux. has a boating safety course and probably the state by now. These types of courses should be manditory before operating any water craft!

As far as speed limits well (educated) common sense should prevail; are we'll all be buying Speedometers for our boats to keep from getting busted by the Radar Fish..he..he...he...:)

Bought a new one, but this time it was galvanized.

Cuzz what you're really saying is (What or Who can we get to help BAN hunting...?), the FED's have already started bowing to the pressures of groups with Your mindset and unless we Hunters stay united and fight for the 'Common Goal' (hunting) the likes of Cass Sunstein will have All Us Hunters, hunting on Video Games ONLY!

Abbra Kadabbra, poof there gone...its like magic!

I've noticed the same thing around my place. I had seen them all season, plenty of them. Told myself I'd hunt them after deer season closed.

I don't have the luxury of hunting with a dog, but I haven't seen a single squirrel and the rabbits are in holes around here.

They sure are scarce in these parts this late in the season. Wonder if its the rather cold winter we've had? I don't think they hibernate...

I was always taught not to shoot nest, one of those ethics things I recon. How do you know you didn't kill a squirrel (dead)in the nest?

A comment titled: Ethics! in response to a report titled: Down and Out Squirrel

It's all about ETHICS, isn't it?

While some might get a laugh out of something like this, others probably don't. There is nothing natural about the photo, but it could be likened to driving around town in the old days 'Showing Off the Fine Deer' you just killed, except this would be more like Strapping Him across the Hood of the pickup with a Bud and a Butt in Hoof and driving around showing it off.

Funny? Maybe to some and but not to others...isn't a Hunter's Ethics supposed to kick in at some point?

I for one feel pretty sure that this pic. is in some fanatics picture file, just waiting for the right time to use it against SPORTSMEN in some ANTI-HUNTing agenda.

my pennies worth...
