North winds didn't stop these ladies from having a blast this morning. We dropped the anchor one time , and they had all they can handle , with plenty of really nice trout and big ole reds.

After a long week of the oilmans rodeo , I finally got to sleep late on Sunday . Knowing the trout bite is on , I just couldn't stay off the water . Leaving out around 2:00 and getting back around 6:00 , I'd say our afternoon trip was more than productive .

With the oil mans rodeo this weekend , fishing wasn't exactly easey , with hundreds of boats out . The weather was nice and calm , with only .5 ft of tide range . Eventually we were able to sneak off and get on some fish , even a few nice ones mixed in .

A comment titled: Topwater Lodge in response to a report titled: Cocodrie-Dulac Guide Advice

Nameless we would love to help you at Topwater Charters. I would be happy to show all the spots I fish. Right know we are keying on the beach, inland wells and oyster/shell reefs. All the areas are on the coast closer to the gulf. The trout are in full spawn mode so that why they are located closer to the gluf they need heavier Salinty for the eggs to take. Come october you will want to start Moving closer inland which are areas like sister lake, lake mechant, lake Boudreaux, madison Bay. When November hits Lake Decade and the location canals all over the parish will turn on. I grew up fishing in Dularge but put my business in CoCodrie so I could cover both sides of the parish. Any info you need feel free to email and I'll be glad to help you out. Capt Bryce Michel Topwater Charters LLC. 19858550707

A comment titled: Ice Machines in response to a report titled: Ice Machines

I have a 1000 pound Manitowac at topwater charters and we use 600 to 700 pounds a day in the summer. I over bought on Pounds to help the machine catch up. You should be able to recover you ice in a 24 hour period that is if the tempature is around 75 degrees (thats how they are rated). In 90 degrees they work harder to keep up and it takes longer to fill up with the ice melt. I have a 400 pound at my house and it's alot of ice. If you are a weekend fisherman the 400 is ideal. The installer can set the machine to make your desired cubes.(thicker or thinner). I Like the Manitowac, easy to clean, easy to work on and parts are readily available. I deal with Mike Blanchards in Houma on Hollywood road Houma. They do a great Job. Topwater Charters

A comment titled: Its easy in response to a report titled: Wade Fishing

I wade fish at least 15 times a year. Things you need are a wading belt, a long stinger, Waders for the cold months. The wading belts with little tackle pouches are the best. I bring topwater baits, stick baits and soft plastics with extra Jig Heads. Where you wade depends on the different equipment. I have seen some monster trout come from the waders especially this time of year. I wade the Barrier island from Grand isle to coon point. It is all sand with little mud. I see alot of sharks but have never had a run in with them. They do eat a few trout off your stringer but that is part of the deal if you wade the islands. I don't think you will have that problem if you are wading places like Big lake or Sabine. You want to key on any place you catch fish. Getting out the boat is a stealth way to fish. We as fisherman don't realize the amount of vibaration and noise we make and how much it effects the fishing, especially shallow water situations. Good luck and I hope this helps. Captain Bryce

We mainly fish Lake Decade when the wind is blowing. Capt john has limited out in cocodrie every day this week. He has taken pictures and I will post the whole week when I get to Cocodrie. To answer your question, the fish are bitting in madison, wonder lake, and Boudreaux. They are in the winter patterns. Swim baits and popping a cork have worked the best. We swear by opening night plastic. Thanks Again for the love. Capt Box Topwater lodge

A comment titled: Thanks for putting us back to the top in response to a report titled: Big fish this week

I cut my teeth in dularge, probably before you new where it was. Grew up on jug lake for 30 years before any of you reading this new where is was. I remember days when on a saturday you where lucky to see 5 boats in mechant, lost lake, eagle lake, or any of the so called sacred places. The old camp called blood, sweet and tears was sold by my dad and uncles about 5 years ago. Topwater lodge is located in cocodrie so I can cover ever part of the parish water within 45 minutes. So there is no telling where you will see me. From the Golden meadow sulpher mine to lost lake, my captains and myslef can be there. Thanks for the kind post and putting all those pictures of trout on the top of the post list. It helps me book more trips and kill more trout. A comment titled: Be careful in response to a report titled: New to live bait, need some guidance

If you can don't pick your live bait up until the morning. In cocodrie we are lucky and ride up to the bait boat to get our bait. To stay away from catfish and trash fish, you want your bait to be fresh and lively. Big bait buckets work well to keep your bait alive. Cocaho minnows keep the best, be prepared to loose some if you try to keep croakers are shrimp alive over night. Bait savers the size of champanes work the best. The best bet is to get your bait right before you fish. Capt Bryce
