FREDS
Drive to Port Vincent, Freds you can lauch there. if you drive to walker, get off interstate 12. take right on 447 head south about 10 miles until you get to hwy 16 where 447 ends. take a left go about 3 or 4 miles until you get in Port Vincent when you come to an intersection with a light turn right. freds will be across the river. there is also a way to get there from airline going through galvez or prairieville but I'm not sure how to get there from that way, which might be shorter if you live closer to ascension parish.

Amite River
DO NOT go near the amite river with a 12' flat when it warms up. And I dead serious, there are to many yahoos with 30 footers running around there. Go launch on new river and learn the canals back there. Its alot safer!!

Fishing
Dude let me give you some advice. I would not take a 12 foot boat anywhere but an extremely small canal or a backyard pond. Thats it dude those things are tooo small. Do not take it somewhere where they launch bass boats or any decent size boat for that matter. You are just asking for trouble and that is my opinion.

thanks
thanks for all the info guys. well are there any safe places around BR that i could put my boat in?

re
you could easily fish colyell bay in a 12' boat. there is no traffic back there, and it's a good place to try during spawn in a few weeks.

coylell Bay

re
it's a bayou off of the amite river. you don't have to put out at fred's either, they have a bar on 42 that has a launch into colyell bay.

False River
You could also try False River. They have a canal on the south end of the lake that is a no wake zone. There is a bait store and a launch before you get to the island side
called Begerons. We have alot of luck there this time of year. I only bass fish but there is alot of people that catch good Sacs and bream.

Re:Colyell
Put in at Bayview-but park on the side of the tavern. A few years back they had breakins across the road where it it is isolated. Please don't put in at fred's and run south. It's dangerous-drunks- party boats.

Of close scenic runs,Colyell offers alot. It's scenic- you cans meander under huge cypress trees and you can go miles north where it branches into "little Colyell". Caught catfish jugging back there.

Email me if you like for additional info into colyell-- I have a small boat too but had loads of fun with kids- this area is only 25-30-minutes from OLOL where I live.

Also- a safe run with a flat boat would be launching at Big John's but going north on the Amite. The party boats usually go south since it gets shallow north. You can make it to Bayou Manchac no prob. -or continue north. No boat traffic and alot of sand bars to get out and swim or have a lunch. I've never made it to I-12 but have heard the traffic going by. Big John's is on Hwy 42 (Ascension Parish) approx 3 miles north of the madness at Fred's.

Please, whatever, as others have mentioned, stay OFF the Amite from FREDS south to the diversion canal. It is dangerous-no joke.

Bayside Campground
If you go to Freds down Hwy 16, before you get to the sharp curve by the Peanut and snowball stand there is a little campground called Bayside Campground on the right You can put in there and you dont have to go out in the big river with all the idiots that will fly right past and swamp you out, the landing is on little canal and you can run to Grays Creek and stay up up in there were there is no Boat traffic its just a little canal that you can catch a few small bass, brim, and catfish in. we put in the other day and ran all the way to the bridge on 4-H Club road just riding, but there is log about 300 yards fromn the bridge you might not be able to get over we had a go devil and jumped it but there is still about a mile of canal you fish any ways if you go Enjoy yourself and Thats one good looking boat Be proud of what you have!!!!!!!!!

bayou barbary
they have a little launch off bayou barbary that leads out into the amite river that I used to fish in high school. It is in French Settlement. You can go down I-12 get off at livingston/frost go right. Go to second 4 way stop and take a left. go a few miles the launch is on your right. cool little place for a boat like yours

I second what the other guys said about the Amite River in the summer... stay off, a lot of people die on that river... also Tickfaw...

Re: Amite River launch
I have fished the Amite river my whole life in a 12ft boat. Yes anything can happen but if you pay attention and do what you are supposed to do you will be fine. They do have 30ft speed boats that run through there but you can hear them coming a mile away. When you travel the river stay to the side. I put in at Bayou Barbary and fish the bayou itself which is completely safe. Heck I fish the bayou with my kids in kayaks. Once you get to the river just stay safe a pay attention. Most accidents are do to neglect..drinking, no lights, no PFD etc.... You can catch some bass in that section but no lunkers. The bream fishing is good also the catfish. In the fall I do ok on sac-a-lait in the lay downs. Stay away from Freds area of the river. Stay away from the diversion canal.

Re: Amite River launch
There are 2 other places I like to go as well that are not far from Baton Rouge and are great for a 12ft boat. South of I10 on Airline Hwy before you get to Lutcher there is a really nice landing on Blind river. Also if you go to Grosse Tete. You can put in the Grosse Tete Bayou right by the visitor's center.

Bayou Plaquemine
Cross the new bridge toward Plaquemine. Get on LA1 south and stop at Dickies in Addis to get some bait/gas or whatever. Pass Dow Chemical and turn right at the light across from the Chevy dealership across the tracks (Bayou Jacob Rd). Stay on that road pass The Island Golf Course and turn left at the intersection of Bayou Jacob Rd and Enterprise Blvd. When you cross the bridge you will turn right at the stop sign. The launch is to the right across for the Iberville Jail. They dont usually have bigger boats there. Have seen a few party barges and have even seen a bunch of teenagers in kayaks down there. It runs from the old locks in Plaquemine to the ICW.

Re: Amite River launch
You can go to Pete's Landing. Take I-12 to Livingston, take a right and go down La 63 to a 4 way stop, continue straight, come to another stop sign at La 444 go left, i'll be about 5 miles down on the right. Not much boat traffic in that area. Good fishing.
