winn parish area rut

I have been hunting in Winn parish for 2 years now ans have yet to pinpoint the rut. I have talked to different people and was told different things...I was just hoping to get some info from some of you.
Last year I hunted every weekend from 1st of november through mid december, and noticed heavy scraping in mid november...I saw deer, but none chasing does...
Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Winn Parish Rut.
I hunt in Caldwell just to the east of Winn Parish. Somewhere just after Nov. 15th the rut starts & runs to the 1st of December. You'll not see many bucks chasing the doe. Our area has way too many doe & I think most of the rutting is done during the night. Got a big 9 pt. last year on November 15th. He stunk real bad & lost a little weight. So I'd say start in mid November & with a little luck you might get one.

timing
Pre rut Nov 15 or so Peak is about thanksgiving or later and it has run as late as Christmas / new years. The moon will change the dates from year to year. Thats been the best time for me in that area. Lots of mid day action.

thanks
I know in most of the country its around the second full moon after the autumn equinox. I have just found that in louisiana there are very different rut times from october in some parts of the state to January in Miss. River parishes...

So you say mid day action huh...makes sense during the full moon period...

RUTTING
They are starting some now due to the cooler weather. Found a couple scrapes today and more hookings. Had a buck following a doe but to far for the Muzzleloader but hope to see him Saturday again. Elmo is right on with the dates for the rut. I hunt Winn and Jackson parishs and that is prime time the week before Thanksgiving.

I will be there today through Sunday to check it out...I am bringing my bow to shoot a doe first, then I will hunt where I have a farther shot with the rifle after.

Are you finding them in the piney woods, or along the creeks?
At my lease the oaks are dropping like crazy, but seeing more deer in the pines with thick underbrush.?...

I'll be there next weekend. Got the word from my buddy up around our lease yesterday that younger bucks are cruising a bit. he didn't see any chasing but prowling is surely going on. Might have been an early IN-Heat doe in the area. This cool WEATHER GOT ALL OF us WITH SWOLLEN necks and our stickers poking out. Good luck chuckF

deer are moving
Well, the deer were sure moving this weekend. No racked bucks yet, but I saw 5 does and 2 spikes. I did find some fresh rubs, and I saw deer every time I went on stand. Morning, noon, and late afternoon.
What did you guys see up there?

HEY CHUCKF
MY numbers where wrong on the kills last weekend..(16 deer killed 11 bucks and 4 does) we have about 2200 acres or so. I just got back last night and boy what a difference a week makes. I hunted Fri and Sat all day. No kills in the entire club. I saw 5 deer all weekend All young. Very few sightings from other members. Saw lots of scrapes and activity of feeding. I think that cold snap had em moving the weekend before. We had 80 degrees all this weekend..... I also saw lots of sign of treaspassers in my food plots. We got one local guy in a camera pic so that might help slow down the others.

I hunted this past week between Atlanta and Wheeling in area we call the coochie break. We killed two nice bucks both 10 points one with kickers. Both necks were swollen and came in chasin' does and Torsel glands black as coal.I passed on a 8 point with good tine length cause we only get one buck 8 or better 16" or better. I felt he was young and could be biggger next year. But he came in nose on the ground 2 1/2 hours after three does had came through. We all talked around the camp fire and everyone feels like this is the rut right now. That early cool spell fell right in the middle of that big full moon and we beleve it triggered most of the does in our area a few weeks early this year. Every hunter that seen a buck all agreed they were moving around with that look in there eye.

Re: winn parish area rut
I've hunted around Gansville in Winn Parish for 50 years and have kept records for nearly 30. The rut there usually starts around the last week of November and goes through the first week of December, with some bucks rutting til early January. If I had to pick one week to hunt, it would be the first week of December. That being said, they have been rutting this year for the last couple of weeks. I've never seen it start this early before.
