Lake Pontchartrain Manatees

Hello! I am a Masters student at UNO and I am doing my research on manatees in Lake Pontchartrain. If you don't mind, please check out my research so that you or anyone you know can report a manatee that was seen within the last 5 years. I would really appreciate it. Thank you!!

I saw a video on Facebook last week of one swimming in the spillway. I'm not sure if you are aware of the video but if not it may be worth it to give it a look.

I saw one in Belle Pass in Fourchon about 4 years ago in the summer. Heard it gulp air and know it was not a purpoise - got a good look at its tail as it dove. Did not see it again, but I'm sure it was a manatee.

Saw a monster manatee today at about noon. My son first thought he was watching a giant garfish. I remembered your post and tried to get a picture but failed. We were fishing the shoreline in the Rigolets on the North side, about halfway between the Hwy 90 bridge and the L&N railroad bridge.

The manatee appeared to be 3-4 feet wide and at least 10' long. He came up by my boat, blew, and then subsurfaced. He had moss growing all over him, looked somewhat brown and had about a 2' wide fluke. He was huge. I got a good look at him from about 10 feet!
