Fun day at Tickfaw state park

Had fun today with the wife and kids at Tickfaw state park catching sunfish and small mouths down by the river. Stink bait caught some cats and worms caught the rest. Then we hit the splash pad to cool down. 3 buck entry fee for priceless memories

Glad you and your family enjoyed yourselves. I hate to be 'that guy', but there are no smallmouth in that river. Regardless, catch what you can!

Just a regular largemouth bass. You will also catch some Kentucky Spotted Bass in the Tickfaw. Those usually have red eyes and will always have a tooth patch on their tongue. A smallmouth would not live long down here, the water gets entirely too hot for them. I wish we had some though!
Please dont take that as me calling you out or being a jerk. Just trying to help in case you go back and decide to keep a few. You will search and search in the regs looking for length and creel limit and never find the regs on smallmouth.

Yep,we do not have smallmouths in our waters but our neighbors just to the North of us in Arkansas have more than enough smallmouths and they fight like small redfish! We do,however, have bunch of spotted bass(Kentucky bass)and yes they have reddish eyes and a patch on their tongues like a cat has, easiest way to tell em apart from largemouth bass!!State record is 4 lbs and I caught a 3 plus lb Kentucky in T-Funky about two years ago, fought like big redfish!!!

Thanks for the info guys. I grew up a saltwater fisherman not fresh. But since Katrina pushed us North I'm coming around to it
