Had some decent time on my hands and did a solo T-Funky trip launching outta 3 Rivers Rd Launch(micahguitar-that is at end of 3 Rivers Rd and just be aware that ya need to back down almost right on top of landing, not diagonally as nice chunk of concrete awaiting boat trailer axles)!!Started my trip tossing new Live Target hard plastic frog,no takers, switched to Booyah Pad Crasher,Jr,again no takers then switched to tried-and-true Salter black and chartreuse tube jigs tipped with Berkeley PowerBait Crappie Nibbles, neon glitter-sacs love em don't leave home without em!!Put beauty in box, extremely thick and dark slab, estimated to be somewhat close to a lb and dropped huge one in box that inhaled tube jig tossed near boat dock and had one more, then went to another productive area, dropped a few more in box and saw two huge snakes, one definitely a moccassin, the other most likely just plain ole water snake but very curious fella.Saw another sac au lait fisherman and did not get chance to compare notes and I did try for bass at my typical boat docks, nothing to show for worm-tossing and went exploring for more sac au lait spots, caught and released few smallish bass on Salter tube jigs, tipped with nibbles and spotted what initially appeared to be dead gator til I guess he heard my trolling motor splashing and he decided to cruise and allow me to take his pic!!!Picked up nice perch in same spot I started in this am and think my sac au lait apprenticeship might be over.Really just started targeting sac au lait about two months ago and have found em where I expected them to be,shallow areas near cypress trees and they love shade, especially with dem huge eyes!!!They also love tube jigs under slipcork with crappie nibbles added and might get me some Crappie Psychic trailers to add to the hauls.Seems once the nibble gets knocked off, they want no part of plain tube jig and I did lose huge slab that went straight for lilly pad stalk and released smallish sac au lait that I managed to catch while trying to fix Slab Daddy reel that had tangled web of line in it!!!Plenty of fine filets and now Wifey and I have carcasses for Honey Island Swamp crawfish trip this Friday!!

P.S.Biggest slab 1.08 lb two pegged at .85 not too shabby for a rookie!!!

Let us know how you do going crawfishing Friday. I’ve only gone once so far this year, it was at south farms, I’m having withdrawals.

Thanks for the sac-a lait tips. I started targeting them this spring myself. I went once to Southfarms and i am ready to go back. I have seen photos and it looks like the water is going down. I have some deep set nets ready to go. I emailed WLF a couple weeks ago and they said it maybe a couple weeks before it reopens so that should be soon. If not I will have to go find some spots in Honey island

My mom did me a huge favor(when I was nabbing plenty of either bass or specks and reds in Lake P)and she had plenty of fish carcasses taking up way to much room in her freezer and I got at least 7 bags of fish carcasses plus a few of them sac au lait carcasses to sweeten the deep water nets!!!Let yall know how we do tomorrow!

Well, wish I could report stellar results regarding crawfish in Honey Island Swamp but dat aint de case one bit!!Wifey and I had a nice time sight-seeing and traversing an angry and raging W Pearl River, launching at Davis' Landing and heading towards the powerlines that cross through the Swamp, always an awesome spot for huge crawfish but two factors were not in our favor-raging River and extremely cold water, most likely a result of the high Pearl plus maybe the Bonnet Carre Spillway opening allowing tons of extremely cold MS River water in and displacing mudbugs. My suggestion would be to wait for the Pearl System to fall a tad then try usual and reliable spots.Til then, gonna get back after some fine T-Funky sac au lait!!
