Boat Re-fueling Issue

Reply

I have a 2013 Xpress H20B bay boat and I am having issues while re-fueling. The fuel line seems restricted since I cannot press the pump handle more than 1/4 of the way before it bottoms out. I removed the fuel fill line and the check valve is working properly. There are no blockages in the main fill line. I even tried adding fuel directly to the tank with the same problem. Could this be due to a venting issue from one of the lines coming in/out of the tank?

I had the same issue on a different type of boat. I added my own vent to the side of the center console and it vented perfectly after that. In my other boat, I could manually reach the vent hose, so I would disconnect the vent hose while refueling and all worked well.

I'm sure it's a vent issue, but I'm not sure of your configuration to recommend an exact solution

Could be that vent line is clogged. Try using a piece of hose that fits over the vent and blow through it. Make sure vent line is not too long creating a bow or low point in it. Gas can fill the bowed area blocking air flow, making fueling up a nightmare. My Blazer Bay was really bad about this. By shortening the vent hose it eliminated the low spot and stopped the refueling issues.

This is a well know Xpress problem. I had the same problem with my H-18 and the fix is fairly easy. The problem is the vent hose dips below the fill hose between the fill opening and the tank which allows fuel to pool up in the sagging vent hose preventing proper venting. I fixed mine by raising my vent hose above the fill hose and securing it with zip ties. Good luck.

I'd bet a wooden nickel it is your vent line. I was having the same issues. Replaced the vent line and never had a problem since.
