Been tryin to find some ideas to build some traps for them apple snails but I can’t find nothin on google. I already know what baits to use. I was thinking bout using wire mesh maybe something similar to a crab trap with plenty wide funnels so they’ll find their way in em easily. Anyone know of anything traps that they make for them?

Honestly crawfish traps work pretty well we catch more snails than crawfish in our ponds.

What are you gonna do with them once you catch them if you don't mind me asking?

Clean them, soak the shells in a bucket of water/bleach, and set them in the sun to dry. I just give the shells away. Some people like to make decorations with them. But I’m still trying to find a good recipe for them. For now I just use the meat for crawfish bait

I was wondering if you were trying to eat them or maybe use for bait. They have made their way into the Belle River area. I was thinking of trying to catch some and use them for catfish bait on jugs are trot lines.

It’s worth a try. The catfish might eat them. I tried using them for bait in Gibson for the choupic but nothing would touch them except for the turtles. However I would assume catfish would hit on them since they would hit on pretty much anything

I am a researcher working with apple snails.

Currently it is illegal to intentionally capture or transport apple snails without immediately killing the animals.

If anyone has any further questions feel free to contact me at txg6546@louisiana.edu or Dr. Jacoby Carter of the USGS at carterj@usgs.gov.
