ELK LOAD

Is a 7mm, 150 gr Remington Core Lock a good round for Elk? Do I need to go to a 180 gr or a different bullet?

Re: ELK LOAD
In 7mm, I'd definitely go with the 175 gr in a Nosler Partition or Swift A Frame bullet. A premium, heavier bullet will provide better penetration should the animal not be standing perfectly broadside. The 7mm 175gr Nosler Partition is known for its excellent penetration and can be had in Nosler ammo or Federal Premium. Killing the animal isn't the problem, but finding it close with a good blood trail may be. Elk are very tenacious of life. Should a follow-up shot be required with the animal running away, a 'Texas Heart Shot' will require a bullet that stays together and has the weight to get to the vitals. Good luck on your hunt!!!

With a 7mm Rem Mag I prefer 170 GR Norma Oryx, 160 GR Barnes TSX and 175 GR Nosler Partition. All are accurate, expand excellent and hold together extremely well when hitting heavy bone on elk.

The Nosler accubond is an excellent bullet also. Any of the bullets mentioned are great bullets. You want a bullet that has integrity to stay together with enough weight to penetrate deep preferably passing thru.
