Re: First Hunt in Big Branch
Awesome job, fellas, plenty of teal in some parts of Big Branch.I was shooting fair amount of mallards in some incredibly difficult-to-access ponds and they seem to have all but disappeared!!!Got me one more shot at dem Big Branch Beauties and will do my best to try to smack one or two in de face!!!Great job and keep ya spots out there close to de vest as it only takes a slip-up one time, then all ya gonna have is tons of pressure all around ya.Got folks on this site peeved at me but I say get over it as where I hunt,I NEVER see another hunter,it is that difficult to get to where I hunt and only about 3 hunters(all hunt with me)know exactly where de Mandevillian mallard honey-holes be!!!Keep bustin de Big Branch ducks!!!

Thanks guys, the key was definitely good shooting, we made the most of our opportunities by dropping flocks of 4,5,and 7. We did have a couple mallards land far in the pond but we couldn't connect on them. Also had pintails working for a few minutes until shots by our buddies flared them, did get a single hen. Our friends were 150 yards away and they shot 2 teal all morning, we were definitely on the 'x'.

Today was definitely a lot different, didnt see a single teal or hear many shots. Got two before we closed out the season.

Thanks, We use to hunt Joyce a few years ago and we would get mostly passing shots on greys heading to manchac, I definitely enjoyed my weekend in Big Branch but it was a fair amount of work. We did get our opportunity on a fine greenhead and his suzie. We had seen them flying around but havent been able to totally convince them to give us a look until today. The pair was flying about 100 yards away to a pre-set destination, I was able to turn the hen to us and she was very vocal back to me. She circled a few times giving us shots but I refused to call it because I knew there was a good chance the drake would come get his mate. Luckily I was right and he gave us a perfect shot about 25 yards over the blind, unfortunately I couldn't get my shoulders squared up to place an accurate shot and instead took three hail mary's, also my buddy's shell didn't go off so he couldn't knock him down. Just how this season has gone for us this year, I'm looking forward to next year though.

We certainly took full advantage of the extremely high water today and where we hunted was mudflats just few days ago😬We had probably mottled ducks today as I can usually convince mallards to give me a good look-see and had pair come in off Lake but they veered off before giving us even a half-decent chance, pretty typical of mottled ducks and about all we had today was hooked-up teal and Dos Gris. Gonna reconvene for Teal Season and just for kicks,I typically paddle some nice sloughs and the non-motorized Pipeline week or two post season just to see the ducks that realize season finally over and bet there are swarms of green wings and plenty greenheads and woodies all over dat fine Marsh. Good luck on future hunts. Dat place is certainly special but takes plenty effort to be successful.
