A good start would be getting a pamphlet available at most places on rules and regulations on WMA’s and hunting and especially legal weapons for said season. Each has its own specific rules and regs and seasons. More people get tickets at wma’s for not knowing season and having the wrong weapon than any other thing. Game warden at my local wma has a standard set of simple questions he ask. You do any good? What you hunting? What you hunting with? Probably 25% of people answer this incorrectly as they are hunting with wrong weapon for season. That book is your wma bible, read it. Once you read it you will be able to answer most of your own questions.

Totally agree with bigjim. Before you think about going hunting know the rules for the WMA you are gonna hunt.....they vary per WMA and some of them vary greatly. 2nd piece of advise would be to be prepared to cover some territory. Most people who begin hunting in WMA's get discouraged because they arent seeing anything within 500 yrds of the tailhead or road. Successful public land hunters cover the most distance and work the hardest...its not rocket science. Get on google earth and look for chunks of land farthest from the roads or trails and start there. Hogs are a great fun to hunt and are abundent in both places you mentioned but they are not gonna fall out of a tree into your lap. And PLAN PLAN PLAN....like so I am gonna be far from truck how am I gonna get my hog out? How am I gonna find my way out? hint....your not gonna drag a 100# hog a mile or mile and 1/2 back to the truck through the swamp and woods.
