Dates Hunted - December 2 - 3 2017:

The last weekend of the first split was very slow for all of us at the camp. Not a lot of video action to choose from. Did shoot a real nice drake pintail.

MileyPop,Wanted to send along this neat pic of what I call Coot Army, probably over 150 strong, and the feed in the ponds Bayoubob,Gerard, and I hunt is as thick as I have ever seen, making me chomp on de bit for Second Split.Took Beretta Extrema apart(had little trouble getting bolt handle extracted but got it out and thoroughly cleaned out trusty ole shoot-gun)and harvested 14 huge palmetto branches,so essential for our incredibly-effective and ultra-mobile blinds, whether they be by themselves or my ole-school style, using antique Chapman(think possibly one of first Ron Chapman built, over 35 years ole!!).Probably not gonna have time to scout but we have extensive knowledge of our Marsh and hoping the feed situation(coots eating dat thick grass up plenty)keeps whatever greys we get and also hoping for trophy sprig pintail(have killed a few immature drakes, none with sprigs, unfortunately)!!!Can't wait to hit some sweet spots, hoping for the best and taking what I get!!!

If you are trying to find the grey ducks to hunt the best place to look is where the poule d'eau are. Greys and poule d'eau stick together. That's why it is a good thing to have grey decoys mixed with poule d'eau in the spread. The don't need to be separated in the spread, if you see them in the wild they are mixed and matched together.

Mileypop,No doubt dat is de truth but to be quite honest with ya,dem coots do a tremendous amount of splashing around and I have seen numerous instances where they actually spooked the greys and other ducks and I really do not need any coot decoys, have a bunch of live ones right next to my sweet lil island!!!Hoping to try to scout a tad either Th or Fri,just been way too busy with incredibly productive Medicare Open Enrollment season and when ya self-employed like me,ya gotta make hay when dat sun shinin'!!!Got fine Delacroix overnight speck and red and possibly bass fishing trip set and just cleaned up one fine azz Lew's Tournament Lite baitcaster,so sweet it feels like butter in ya hands and hauls in some mighty big reds and amazes those doubters that see small size of reel but do not realize dat baby holds over 120 yards of 17 lb test(got 14 lb Vanish fluro on there,my favorite line, especially with possibly gin-clear water this time of year).Got fine bass awaiting finishing touches at Sonny Miller's Taxidermy in Crossroads,MS and probably wont see fine bass double-mount til March at earliest.Want trophy pintail to go along with fine Big Branch greenhead, killed over 14 years ago and to add to collection, including trophy LA black duck drake, killed just few seasons ago!!Might target bull grey for de wall as well!!Good luck wherever ya hunt and looks like I might be targeting some greenheads where I intend to hunt start of Second Split!!
