Can I get a home made boat titled without receipts?

I recently bought an aluminum pirogue off of Facebook marketplace. I didn't get a bill of sale (yeah dumb on me) and it doesn't have papers or numbers since it was home made by somebody 10 or so years ago. What is the best way to go about getting it registered so that I can put a trolling motor on it?

I doubt you need to get a pirogue registered if it will have a trolling motor instead of a gas motor. Check the LDWF website for boat registration.

I wouldn't worry about a perogue. You should have gotten a bill of sale. I once built a 12 ft go boat. I had to bring the boat and receipts of purchase of marine plywood to WL&F office in Thibodeaux on La3185 the agent inspected it and signed off on it. He also put some stick on ID stickers all over the boat. Good luck Brother.

You do need it registered and numbered to put a trolling motor on it.

I thought the same thing about a trolling motor but I talked to a game warden about it briefly and checked the regulations and it only states that any boat with a 'motor' needs to be registered. it doesn't say anything about if the motor is gas or electric.

It needs to be registered even for a trolling motor. Guy I work with got popped in a little plastic 2 man pond boat. He was fishing public waters and got a ticket for not having it registered. When I built a homemade aluminum boat i had to show receipts for materials then had to do an inspection. No receipts or bill of sale is gonna be tough to work with. When it comes to issues like this DLWF can make the DMV look like amateurs. Good luck.
