Decided it was high time to hit two of my favorite SShore spots, the Parish Line Canal and the PowerLine Pilings and started off at the Parish Line Canal, tossing a Spro frog(no owls in sight, thank goodness)and switched over to Zoom Speed Worms,Junebug Red,with only a micro-bass to show for all dat and think the Speed Worm spit out micro-bass vs the other way around!!Decided to jig the numerous and redfish-friendly PowerLine Pilings with redfish candy(Berkley Gulp,Swimming Mullet, mated to custom-made 3/8 painted jig heads)and used both intuition and knowledge of W Lady P to pick off some nice reds, hooked 5 and boated 4,from 17 inches to 20 inches and unfortunately lost biggest red that woulda rounded out solo limit!!Had fun and saw fellow in nice Nautic Star and asked if he caught any fish,to which he replied,'Caught some nice waves' and I showed him the biggest red of today.Headed back tomorrow and hope to stick a few more 'grillers' in de box and ya never know, might stumble upon some specks!!Dat Chartreuse Swimming Mullet is bout de only soft plastic I need for specks, reds, flounders, striped bass, croakers, blue catfish, etc,my 'Go-To' bait!!!Love it when a decent day of fishing happens and follows a tried-and true pattern!!Think this just the tip of de redfish iceberg!!!

Tried today but could tell almost right away that it was not gonna be a decent day(saw a few lightning strikes off in the distance)and the winds were picking up tremendously, unfortunately!Since I was already out fairly close to the Parish Line Canal, tried tossing Zoom Speed Worms for about all of about ten minutes and chatted with a fellow crabbing and leaving about same time as me and he reported having about 4 dozen nice crabs!Nice results and might have to resort to bassing and crabbing til the winds lie down a tad.Got a Trestles trip planned soon and hope Lady P settles down a tad, looked like chocolate milk on my way home to Mandeville.

Nice Catch! Do have a question, where are the Powerline Pilings?

Powerlines run east west in southern Pontchatrane and then north from near Bonnet Carre Spillwat to Manchac. Each metal tower sits on two concrete poles about four feet diameter.

Those PowerLine Pilings produce a surprising variety of fish, mostly slot reds typically around 20-25 inches and some harbor some hefty specks up to close to 3 lbs,all available without any live bait.Think of them as independent reefs and I typically search for the cleanest water and found reds closer to the extreme West set of Pilings and toss almost exclusively Berkely Gulp,Swimming Mullet,Chartreuse. On a trip a few years ago, fishing out of kayak(launched at Williams Blvd),I ran into Bob Dubuc,Don's brother, and he was amazed at the reds I was catching on soft plastics and he had made the run to Paris Road to get live shrimp.I typically start fishing at Piling #52 and work my way East or West, winds and water permitting!!Try em sometime,ya might surprise yaself!!
