What Animal Would Do This?

Reply

I was walking our property this past week just South of Many and ran across this. Looks like some animal smelled this old ground honets nest and dug it up. The entrance to the hole looked like about 2'. There were pieces of the bee nest 15 feet from the hole . Does anyone have a clue of what animal around that area that would do this?

Could have been a porcupine or even a skunk.

Louisiana doesn't have porcupines unless they are in a zoo, so you can rule that out. Probably a hog, bear, or skunk.

I've thought about all of these but , the hole that looks like he first dug is only about 2' wide. So that rules out the bears and hogs. It was definitely a small animal. And also I couldn't tell but the hole he dug also tunneled back in the ground for I guess 8 - 10'. I'm just curious about this. I have shown the pics to several old timers and I can't find anyone that has ever seen this before.

You must mean inches ('). [I see what happen here, while I typed inches, it automatically inserted the foot symbol] My guess would be a skunk but a raccoon might do that also.
