Jon boat places to fish?

I've been fishing everywhere I can for a year, but I still don't think I know where to go and when. I've fished myrtle groove, the riggolettes, delacriox, bayou villars near lafitte, bayou lacombe, cypremort point, and the marsh near grand isle. I have a 12 ft jon with a mud motor and a beveled front for breaking waves (but I still get beat up on open areas on windy days). My 14 ft jon is pretty flat, but I want to run it too. I thought delacriox is for winter and Grand isle is for summer right? Any help is appreciated.

Howdy.

Myrtle Grove is like tailor-made for your boat, and we're coming up on the perfect time of year for it too. Trout should probably already start showing up in the canal right by the marina, and will be even thicker after this weekend's cool front. It's also a great place to fish after big cold fronts in the winter, when we have a couple days of strong N winds that blow the water out of the marsh. The redfish then huddle up in the deeper canal right there - just throw some market bait on the bottom or crawl a dark soft plastic on a 3/8 jighead.

Not sure what kind of power your 14' flat has, and delacroix has some accessible spots in the fall/winter, but you have to run across little lake which can get choppy.

You could also look into the Chalmette wall area, you'd have no problem getting there from Bayou bienvenue but you'd have to check the lock and make sure you don't get locked out.

Good areas to fish with small boat this time of year without exposure to open water: Catfish Lake and Sulfur Mine in Cutoff Golden Meadow area and Piont Aux Chiene. (I launch at Isle D Jean Charles Marina and fish that area,)

You can soak crabs in Caminada Pass any time of year and catch bull reds.

It may be a bit of a drive but in Venice there is a launch called Joshuas. I launch an 9 foot plastic jon boat out of there with a 30lb thrust trolling motor and as long as the winds are under 10 i'm fine. with your boat you should be able to fish 12's but if it gets much higher than that the fishing is tough. We caught over 20 specs and over 10 reds the weekend we went.

I tried Myrtle Grove, Sunday, but I got out there too late in the day (11:30 am) and spent too much time scouting. So I just got catfish, but I clean and keep those too (hard head, gaffe top, or channel still gets fried). I'll try to get out there earlier next time. In the meantime, I'm eager to get back to Delacroix, and try some of these places that folks are suggesting.

Wow, you did Venice in a plastic boat? That's brave. I heard Venice was dangerous.
