Bow Hunter Relocating to Cenla Area

Reply

My family and I are going to be moving to Alexandria in September from El Paso, TX. I'm an Army veteran and we are active in DU, NWTF, and all things outdoors. I would sincerely appreciate any input on archery deer hunting in the area and any possibilities of joining a 'bow only' deer lease in the area. I have a similar post on the waterfowl forum as well. I'm not looking to elbow in to someone's spot, just hoping to connect with good folks and do my share. Thank you.

I think you will find that the woods here are quite a bit different than Texas. As far as I know, there are not any bow only clubs. Some of the WMAs in the area are bowhunter 'friendly', but they are becoming more crowded every year. There is a small WMA in Wernon parish near Leesville that is bow only, but I have not scouted it. I usually bow hunt until duck season opens, then switch to ducks. You don't really want to be in the WMAs during muzzleloader or gun season unless you like seeing orange vests everywhere. Good luck. Let me know if you have any other questions about the area.

Thank you so much for the info kmat77346. I grew up in MO and our family still has property there, so that is where almost all of my whitetail hunting has been done. I've had the opportunity to do a little mule deer hunting in west Texas. Duck hunting is my real passion, but I need the good venison to keep the freezer full too! Other than a little turkey hunting in NM hunting public land is completely foreign to me, but we are excited to get moved there and become a part of the outdoor community. Thanks again.
