Tims Marine Flat Boat

Reply

Morning!

I am contemplating building a Tims Marine Custom Flat.

Looking at a 18.60 with fantail or a 19.66 with fantail.

Center Console, 24 volt trolling motor, F115 Yamaha with 30-40gal built in fuel tank...

I see these boats come up for sale occasionally, 1980 somthing models, they don't last more than a week on the market.

Sounds like the are built to last and people love them.

My goal is pull lil test trawl when able and chase reds and do some inside fall trout fishing in Delacroix.

I got two sons up and coming and look forward to getting them out on the water with me and teaching them everything i know. I am thinking 18'ft or 19'ft for what i am doing is plenty room.

Any of you have one of the tims flat with fantail, thoughts, pics of layout of boat? Any building suggestions?

Thanks,

Matt

Tim's Flats are commercial boats (no flotation to meet USCG standards for recreational boats) toughest built flats on the market I have the Custom 1448, very solid boat.

Matt,

you can't go wrong with a Tims' Flat and the 19' is a great boat with more room in it than most 24' bay boats. Easy to use, easy to maintain and they last forever. I had a 17' that I fished in delacroix for 25 years. Floats in 1' of water. I' have an unusual preference for a wood floor as I think it muffles the sound. Do not get a built in live well as the heat in aluminum is drawn to the coolest part of the boat which is your live well.
Good luck. You will not regret a flat boat from Tims.

DO YOU THINK THE F115 IS OVERKILL? I WOULD LIKE TO CRUISE IN 30s LOADED DOWN JUST IN CASE I WANT TO RUN TO MOUTH OF BLACK BAY AND NOT TAKE 2 HRS.

I been running a 1860 since 1982 and it has held up very well.
I just changed the front deck and extended it one rib, used more bracing than original hull.
Had a few stress cracks on ribs after 34 years. Note: lots of ruff service,
trawling, hauling bulkhead materials and building camps.

the 115 hp outboard is plenty for boat.
My boat is a side console and I move the seat up one rib to the front of boat. Had a 30 gallon tank under fan tail.. Now I run two six and where I
go..

Good Luck /good boat

Great boat, I use to have a 16' with fantail. If I had to pick a down side, it would be that its a flat boat. If you have to run across a bay and it kicks up you will take a pounding. That's the only reason I let mine go. The boat that Tim's sells is actually made by Custom Boat Manufacturing. You may want to deal with them directly to possibly save a couple bucks.

I think the 115 is the minimum. I prefer to over power so that I can cruise at lower RPM's making the engine run cooler, less strain etc. When you need the extra juice, it's there.
