Places to shoot ?

I am from Mandeville and have been getting frustrated at the fact that there is nowhere to shoot. I tried the shooting range, but it's not really what I am looking for. I just want to go somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, set up some targets, and shoot without any fees or rules! I don't want to litter or piss of hunters by scaring animals away. I just want to shoot. Does anyone know of some good places near the Mandeville/St. Tammany area where I can do this? Is it OK to shoot on public land like the areas listed here http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/wma?

Middle of nowhere= private property dont take that risk. Most of what you have listed is not gonna be ok due to having weapons only during hunting season on public lands. But highly dangerous just going somewhere random and shooting. This is why they have designated shooting ranges on wmas such as the pearl. Only hope is to make friends with someone with land and they let you shoot. That is unless they turkey hunt which will be shortly.

You will either need a friend with land or a time machine. 30 years ago there were some places where what you are describing was tolerated if not exactly legal.................... but there were always D-bags who took it to far and instead of just shooting illegally dumped garbage shot signs, oil field equipment, transformers ect. Worse people fired off rounds without backstops and hurt/killed folks back in the civilized world (school kids in some cases I recall). So now it's the range, private property with permission or try and get waaaaaaayyyyyyy back in the swamp and hope hard no one calls the man (don't do this, it's not fair to LDWF agents to have to track you down and figure out why you are burning up $10 a box .22 in a WMA in August) . Progress = morons ruin a good thing and whiny nanny state pols make random rules!

I sure do miss the '60s and '70s.

Man we did that into the early 90's. Watching my uncle shoot mud dobblers with a .357 as a kid in the 80's ......... hillarious ! Use to just find and out of the way corner in the spillway and shoot skeet in BC. But people couldn't be reasonable and had to crank of rifle rounds at low angles into the air. Hit kids in Norco and I believe a similar incident in St. Bernard .

A manicured lawn is really great for collecting your spent brass for reloading.
