Unbelievable

Its a long time i been reading the reports but its my first time posting bc i just had to after seeing a article promoting wasting precious game.I have been a duck hunter since i was 5 and now im 40 and no longer hunt bc of the way hunting is now, first of all everyone is a duck hunter now due to the lack of effort people have to put in when duck hunting these days, most people have pro-drives with pop up blinds which takes no effort what so ever to hunt, you can find you a nice pond to hunt and low an behold some idiot comes into your spot and proceeds to pop up ther blind and hunt 20 ft from you. Not only that, after they hunt they go ride around every square inch of the little bit of marsh that we have left which in turns scares every sitting duck that is trying to rest up after getting shot at all morning! And 'breasting ducks' is such a waste and should not be allowed,if you to lazy to clean game the right way then you shouldnt be allowed to hunt! Breasting is like cutting off the backstrap of a deer and throwing the rest away, which people probably do that to!its sad that it has come to this unethical behavior! Let me know what real hunters think about this post! Thanks

Hmm.... tell me, have you ever eaten a fish fillet? Let's not judge others by their methods of cleaning game. Just saying...

Re: Unbelievable
I enjoyed the article and it's informative imo, I keep the legs and gizzards too though but to each their own, but it sucks when other ppl waste game meat, but I don't think about what others do. I definitely don't like plucking ducks all day though. Time is valuable, and I clean the ducks quick then get in the woods asap to hunt something else.

I think we're all indebted to Oldschool1234 for clearly stating what needed to be said. I'm particularly glad that these lovely children were here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed a courage little seen in this day and age.

Re: Unbelievable
He said breasting ducks should not be allowed….LOL. I would like to see how they would enforce that.

Re: Unbelievable
I know it cant be inforced, it is just my opinion, it just seems we have got away from our heritage and go into a 'sport of bragging'

I'm not gonna judge anyone. Do what you think is right, and I am not bothered in the least or think less of you. However if I caught my son 'breasting' anything bigger than a dove, I whip his butt.

Re: Unbelievable
If my grandma, God rest her soul, ever found out that I breasted a duck, I think she would come down and whip my butt or haunt me or something. Lol.

To each his own, but I have to agree with the original post. I think breasting out a duck is a waste. Both my son and daughter hunt with me and I'm trying to teach them the same way that I was brought up, which is if you kill it you better plan to clean it and eat it.

In response to btoups:

You really hit the nail on the head. My grandma would have beat us, then my grandpa would have beat us then our parents would have not taken us back hunting.

Society has lost all respect for each other, other hunters and even the game will harvest.

BTW: My grandma made us pluck at least half of our coot kill each and every hunt. But man, were they good to eat!

Re: Unbelievable
It seems to me that there isn't really that much more meat on the duck. I mean... sure there is the heart and liver (if you like them) and there may be a small bit of salvageable meat around the legs/wings or something.

Granted I am not a big time duck hunter, and have only seen them cleaned a couple of times, but the ones I have seen cleaned really don't seem to produce much more than a few scraps of meat. Nothing you could really use for a dinner unless you had a whole lot of ducks.

I deer hunt a bit, and I don't keep the heart or liver of the deer. Does that make me a bad person? I just don't like to eat them lol.

I also fish regularly, and I get 2 filets per fish (4 from flounder). I suppose if I was hungry enough I could carve around the head a bit more and get a few small chunks of meat, but I don't. And I don't feel bad about it either.

I understand the lack of etiquette you are talking about though. That isn't just hunters/fishermen.. that is society as a whole. It starts with parents being too lazy to teach their kids the right way to act.

Re: Unbelievable
I breast almost every single duck I kill. And I kill my 6 every Saturday and every Sunday. I don't feel bad one bit. All I kill is ringnecks and teal and there ain't enough meat on all 12 legs to equal one breast. I do pluck a limit or two whole. And you know what, my hunting partners breast them all too. Hundreds of ducks each year, floating down the canal with no breasts and no remorse.

Have fun and Happy plucking :)

Hang around any fish cleaning table and see how bad people butcher fish. I don't really care. I think people should mind their own business.

Re: Unbelievable
When I see someone butchering fish , I show them how I do it and they always thank me for it. They have never had anyone show them how to make the most out of their catch. As for ducks when I hunted them I kept breast n legs. No one ever showed me any difference. No one was borne with a knife in their hand. I have found no matter fish or game anyone who doesn't know will welcome advice to get the most out of their catch or kill.

His username really fits his post. :) Just kidding. But just because someone owns a 'Prodrive' doesn't always mean they are 'Lazy'. Sometimes you have to adapt. The same people that are buying surface drives NOW are the same ones that were driving a long tail 10 years ago being negative about them. I am a surface drive owner AND I breast 80% of my ducks. Personal preference. I guess you all that ONLY pluck your birds cut out the rib meat of every deer you kill too?? Lighten up and give all this new technology a chance!

Re: Unbelievable
No i dont cut the rib meat out, i usually bite it out when i cook the ribs. I also kill only one deer a year, which is usually enough meat for my family for the year, the ribs are really good if you properly know how to prepare and cook them.

Re: Unbelievable
Again...i am not saying everyone with a pro-drive with a pop up blind is lazy, i am talkin bout the one that set up 20ft from you 10 minutes before shooting time and proceed to shoot at duck 100 yard in the air which in turn wings them and they are unable to retrieve them. For every one duck they kill they have shot and wounded 5 other ones which are lost and become coon bait. I understand with our coastal land loss that you almost need a boat to hunt in these days, the small pirogue potholes are few and far between these days. I had a mudboat at one time which was used to get close to the ponds that were being hunted, not to ride around every inch of duck habitat.
