On the second week of January I decided it was time to stop hunting the club box stands and try a different strategy. I grabbed my Old Man climbing stand and headed for an area I was sure wasn't visited by hunters this season. As I arrived in the area to check for any evidence of deer I was surprised by the amount of traffic that seemed to be walking across this clover field. I then started looking for a tree to climb a tree that would provide the best view of the field but also be able to keep a close watch of the 2 bottoms that seemed to lead deer directly in my direction. I climbed the tree and waited, waited for the magic hour to come around. As the light was starting to recede from the woods I was starting to give up any hope I had of seeing a nice buck. I covered my scope back up and was starting to unload my rifle when I looked up and saw this nice buck strutting across the field. I then fumbled my rifle trying to take my scope cover back off and nearly dropped it from the stand. I raised my rifle and immediately found the big fella in my scope. He never stopped moving so I was going to either have to stop him or take a moving shot. By this time he wasn't far from the other side of the field when I decided to just take the shot. I squeezed the trigger and the gun fired. I watched this deer hit the ground, then make one last effort to flee as it seemed like the 140 grain Nosler Accubond bullet did its job. I climbed out of my stand and found no evidence that I had even hit him on the field. No hair, blood, bone, etc. I was starting to worry that I might have wounded this beautiful buck. Then to my surprise I saw a glimpse of horns from the edge of the field. In his last efforts to flee he ran off the edge and crashed down towards a deep bottom that fell off the side of the field. I was like a little kid when I got closer to him and saw the actual size of this buck, I couldnít wait to start the bragging as I immediately started calling friends and snapping pictures of this deer. Iíve been hunting since I was 9yrs old and have shot plenty of deer but this is by far the best buck Iíve ever shot
