The best boat

Reply

In your opinion, what is the best bayboat being made today?

I am looking for something that is heavy enough and big enough to run out to some shallow rigs and catch snapper once in a while, but mostly for inshore fishing Venice, Buras/Emprire, Big Lake, etc. If money were no object, what kind of boat would yall buy?

best bay boat
I really like my Ranger Bay 2300 from the sallow red fish ponds to 20 miles off shore!

Sure there are plenty other 'best' boats but I wouldn't change!

There is always 'give and takes' in a boat but the quality in a Ranger is hard to beat!

Best Boat?
If money was no object I would have one custom built! I like them all as long as it has a big ole Yamaha 4-Stroke on it! They all have a little something different that one has & not the other? There are alot of really nice boats on the market today to pick from. With that said we really like our Blue Wave Pure Bay 24, by far the best boat I have ever rode & fished in! Very good ride & we still take pretty shallow water!

Love my Triton Bay boat, rides great, dry boat, all the amenities.

triton 24 lts pro
triton is the way to go. my friends dad bought the triton 24 blts pro about 2 years ago and almost every other weekend my friend and i take it out and go fishing. it has a 225 honda four stroke outboard on it and it great on gas. we went offshore about 30-40 miles out one time and it was going over the 3-4 foot seas like it was nother. it is also a very well layed out boat. the 22 lts pro is the exact same thing as the 24 so if you are tooking to go more inshore than off shore i would recomend it.

Please why ask that question
If you want to spend about 50M plus you better get on board all the boats you can. My son and I just purchased a 23 Shearwater with the new Yamana Show. This boat is one of a kind in my book but check them out. I have owned Ranger and Champion and been in Blackjacks. But your call as everyone thinks they got the best deal.

Aluminum?
It's fun to dream...

My answer: Gravois except I think they're only building commercial boats now.

Next best = Gaudet's, Hanko's, Scully's or one of the other custom aluminum boat manufacturers who have good reputations.

In my experience, quality built aluminum boats outlast fiberglass boats every time.

If I won the Powerball I'd order a 26.1'x 8' or 8.5' x 3/16(?) custom aluminum boat built with:

*light tan, non-slip truck-bed-liner (interior and floor),
*outfitted with twin engines, capable of about 55-60 m.p.h. (though I'd typically cruise at a max. speed of about 45 m.p.h.) with a 'normal' load of equipment and passengers and capable of getting up on plane with just one motor (30 mph?),
*a full windshield (I like to fish in the winter),
*appropriate flotation,
*a large, well insulated fish box also usable as a live well,
*etc...

Hanko's has some nice pics of boats they've made on their website. The other manufacturers evidently don't have very good websites.

I don't own one but have ridden in two of my friends Everglades , the boat I have now is number 26 that I have owned so I have tried a few different boats , and if I hit the power ball I would get one , the are pricey but well built with lots of detail , I think I would power it with the 300 Yamaha 4 stroke

IF......
1. Shearwater 25'
2. Yellowfin (any)
3. Blackjack 24' (not yet in construction)
4. BlueWave PureBay 24'

But on any given Saturday this list can change (if the wind is blowing harder than I want, If I stranded on a mud flat, If the redfish are finnin' in 6' of water, If wife has to go to bathroom)

Hell - I'd even like to know first hand what the turning radius is on one of Carnival's cruise ships....

If Only .....

Re: The best boat
These guys are producing a boat like no other. Classic and as durable as aluminum boats will ever be made. I love this boat and am considering trading in my Champion for one. This is my buddies 21 Hybrid. Made by Pescavora.

Re: The best boat
I don't know how you guys can afford all those $50-60000 plus boats! I have a 1998 Hydra sport V-Hull that I paid $18000 for boat, motor, and trailer. I have since put 2 new motors on it and it does just fine. I gave up on buying a new one after shopping around and seeing what they cost. Must be nice!!

Re: The best boat
I'll take my 22ft. SeaFox any day on any trip from my camp in Venice. 225 Yam 4 stroke does the job. You guys would call me a thief if you knew what I paid. Its a 2011 model, had 9 (nine) hours on it when I got it last year.

Re: The best boat
The best boat is the one that fits you and your family's needs and price range. Everyone likes their boat for one reason or another. Before I bought my Everglades, I fished a 1987 McKee hammer head. It was great. Fished it in the marsh and 40 miles offshore. It was the best boat for me at the time. Good luck!

Re: The best boat
EVERYBODY has their BEST BOAT!

Consider Avenger Bay Boats originally ('Team Avenger' Custom Bay Boats in St. Bernard Parish, relocated to Venice, LA and NOW located in the Carolinas as 'Avenger Bay Boats'! Many charter-guides in Lafitte, LA ran these boats in the late 1980's to present; likewise charter guides in Venice, LA from 2006 to present. I received mine (226 Dual console) completely custom-made to what I wanted from several given options! Today, these boats have been updated to modern expectations...'fit and finish.
