Divided Supreme Court rules against ‘straw’ gun purchases

Buyers must state whether they intend to sell or keep a new gun

The Supreme Court on Monday upheld a federal law that makes it a crime for one person to buy a gun for another without disclosing that fact on the federal purchase form.

The law was challenged by a former policeman who purchased a gun for his uncle so he could get a law enforcement discount – even though his uncle could have purchased the gun legally.
