Fish are right where they’re supposed to be
Autumn. Fall. Harvest. Call it whatever you want. There’s simply no time of year like it, especially if you’re a speckled trout fisherman and you live anywhere near South Louisiana.
The specks have arrived in inside waters, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Just a few days ago, I took my son, Joel, and Donny Steilberg of Pearl River into a marsh lake, and we loaded a box for a fish fry by fishing shrimp creole-colored Matrix Shads on 1/16-ounce Deathgrip jigheads about 3 feet under Versamaxx Bolt corks.
The action wasn’t nonstop — it seldom is in the early fall — but it was still good, and was a great harbinger of things to come.
